• Ask Facebook to Remove Harmful Group "Manhood University"
The Facebook group "Manhood University" advertises itself as a haven for the religious-minded, but it is really a covert expression of bigotry and hatred. It takes barely a minute of scanning their Facebook page to see that they are promoting hateful, sexist ideas and encouraging slut-shaming, victim-blaming, and the general dehumanization of women as sex objects. Facebook is a place for free expression, but at what cost? Ask Facebook to remove this hurtful, abusive content.

  • HISD Trustees: #KeepSchoolsOpen!
I am an alum from Jones High School (one of the schools on the chopping block). With parents and stakeholders standing up for schools across the city, Houston Independent School District (HISD) must use creativity and innovation to meet its challenges. I will not stand idly by as HISD closes schools in low-income neighborhoods. Public education should be just that: public, and accessible. Where will our children go to school when these schools close? Across town? And who will have to pay for that? Our community. HISD, don't close down Houston schools. We need to invest in our children, not bail out on them. Take our schools off the chopping block and keep them open!

  • Don't change the clocks.
When people went to bed and arose with the sun, changing clocks may have saved energy (i.e. candles) The practice has outlived its use. Today changing the clocks twice a year causes stress, accidents on the road and On the job, It taxes the body physically and mentally. leave the clocks alone. Nature will gradually phase in the seasons as the Good Lord intended.

  • QUINCY WADE'S FREEDOM
Quincy was very young when he went to prison. He made a bad decision by hanging the wrong crowd. Family and friends miss him dearly. He has served more than enough time for his crime.

  • Label GMO Foods at Stop & Shop
We have a right to make healthy, responsible, and informed choices about the food we eat. Yet it’s usually impossible to know whether our food contains GMOs. GMOs aren't without risk -- many are designed for increased pesticide use, which has been linked to serious health and environmental effects. And they usually don't undergo independent safety testing before being brought to market. While Connecticut passed a GMO labeling law last year, it won't go into effect until four other states pass similar laws. But in the meantime some stores, like Whole Foods, have responded to the strong concern of customers by labeling their GMO products. Stop & Shop should take the lead here in Connecticut and start labeling its store-brand products that contain GMOs. Sign this petition to the head of Stop & Shop and ask him, as a customer, to label GMOs in their store-brand products.

  • Gov. Martinez and Legislators: Save New Mexico's vital rail artery
Northern New Mexico and Albuquerque desperately need this vital rail artery. Not only Amtrak service will be lost to this entire area without it, but also any chance of other rail-dependent businesses which could revitalize our area's economy. Governors in Colorado and Kansas are backing a multi-state plan to save the rail line, so New Mexico's support is critical to make the plan a success!

  • Forget Arizona's anti-gay bill, guess what's still legal in 33 states?
Americans can still be legally fired for being gay in 29 states and for being transgender in 33 states. The Senate passed the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) to address this problem, but Speaker Boehner refuses to take it up in the House. President Obama has an opportunity to protect as many as 16 million federal workers from discrimination with the swipe of his pen, and we think he should do it right now!

  • Please oppose PNM's Replacement Power Plan and Intervene in the PRC Case. Seize this opportunity ...
The issue of replacement power for the San Juan coal plant is perhaps the most important energy decision that is looming and will have enormous consequences for at least the next 20 years. PNM’s abandonment and replacement power filing - Is not the lowest cost solution; Is not the best environmental outcome; Is not the best jobs outcome; Locks in fossil fuel energy when an avalanche of scientific data demonstrates that we must transition from the burning of fossil fuels to renewables.

  • Support Common Sense Discipline for Illinois
For too long, students have been impacted by a system of overly harsh discipline while there are common sense alternatives that develop strong, healthy, school communities. The current system has had a devastating impact on students, especially students of color, LGBT students, students with disabilities, and ELL students who are disproportionately impacted, as well as taxpayers who continue to shoulder the cost of this ineffective system. -Research into state records has shown that in the 2010-2011 school year, Illinois students lost 1,117,453 instructional days due to disciplinary actions. -The overuse of exclusionary discipline contributes to the dire fiscal situation in Illinois. It costs six times more to incarcerate a student than to educate one. -While the impact of exclusionary discipline touches all students, regardless of race or gender, a 2012 study of federal civil rights data found that Illinois suspends proportionally more African-American students than any other state in the U.S., including a Black-White suspension disparity that is the highest in the country. In Peoria, a Black student is 4 times more likely to be suspended than a White student; in Chicago, a Black student is 4.9 times more likely; in Proviso, a Black student is 10 times more likely. • FDA Regulation of Clinical Trials
Cancer affects 40% of the population and is becoming the largest health concern in the US. Most medicine today is costly and has adverse side effects. We need to start looking at new ideas to solve a new problem.

  • University of Tennessee Should Lift the Ban on Undocumented Students
Undocumented students would like to apply to a University of Tennessee (UT) school, but would be denied based on their immigration status. There is no legal reason that UT bans undocumented students, they do it by choice. It's time for UT to lift the ban on undocumented students and give every student an opportunity to pursue their dreams of higher education.

  • Beautify Long Beach!
Now a year and a half after Hurricane Sandy, Long Beach is starting to make a comeback. Now is the time to beautify Long Beach. I propose murals at the end of each boulevard on the walls of the boardwalk (if not elsewhere as well). Each depicting a scene from Long Beach History. It would be a fantastic addition to this city's great culture and a tourist must see! I would be happy to lead this project with other local artist's. Would you welcome this to our city? If so please sign the petition. Thank you! Best wishes, Rob Rothman
