  • Raise the Minimum Wage!
In 1968 I was able to put myself through college with a minimum wage job. Now students can barely buy books at that same job! Tuition has increased 1200%! People need a living wage!

  • $15 minimum wage in Oregon
Even though Oregon has a high minimum wage compared to many parts of the country, it could be higher. A raising of the minimum wage would create a much needed boost in the Oregon economy.

  • Why Is Paul Ryan Fundraising With Steve King?
------------------------------------------UPDATE------------------------------------------------ Great News! The Iowa GOP just confirmed that Steve King will not be at the GOP Lincoln Dinner this year! However, Paul Ryan will still be speaking at the event in Cedar Rapids. So, we are holding a rally to demand a vote from Paul Ryan and House Republicans on immigration reform. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ On national TV, Rep. Paul Ryan says he supports immigration reform, but here in Iowa he's headlining a fundraiser featuring Rep. Steve King on April 11th. Steve King has done more to hurt the immigrant community than any other member of Congress. He has compared immigrants to dogs and accused DREAMers of being drug mules. In fact, just this week he told DREAMers wanting to join the military that he has a deportation bus to Tijuana waiting for them. He even said giving citizenship to undocumented veterans is like handing out candy in a parade! This is the man Paul Ryan is campaigning with in Iowa! If Rep. Paul Ryan really cared about immigrants and immigration reform, he'd speak out against Steve King's ugly rhetoric. For King, this is another chance for possible 2016 presidential candidates to kiss his ring - and get a photo. Ryan is legitimizing King's anti-immigrant agenda. This is the kind of photo op that may help with King's crowd but it will be a long-term problem for Ryan's political future.

  • Revise Practices of Third Party Utility Suppliers
Third party utility suppliers send notification of contract expirations that look like junk mail. If you don't respond, they are then authorized to raise your rates (mine increased 82%). Getting your rate back to a contracted rate, takes months. This is unfair business practice.

  • Antipersonnel Land mine ban
Millions of landmines are left behind as reminders of conflict in war-torn places like Colombia. We need to conclude the policy review to ban antipersonnel land mines. I was born and raised in Colombia, a beautiful country that has the dishonorable 2nd place for land mine incidents.

  • Not enough available information to ensure the safety of our students and school
Until research is complete and the safety of our students is ensured the school board should make it their number one priority to protect our children. The potential loss of enrollment and funding will greatly affect the longevity of our local school and is of great concern.

  • Fix the MTA!
Since San Francisco voters and city officials handed authority for managing our streets, traffic, parking, Muni, and taxis to the SFMTA, all those systems have deteriorated. SFMTA spends more money and delivers less service per capita than any comparable transit system in the country. Claims of fraudulent accounting practices, handshake deals, and preferential treatment, are running rampant. Muni drivers have a class action suit pending and there are a number of CEQA appeals winding their way through the courts. Reduced parking and restricted traffic lanes have created daily gridlock. San Francisco is now rated the third worst in the country for parking. The congestion parking schemes do not work as promised and the MTA has no real plan to deal with the increase in traffic that new development will inevitably bring. We have lost faith in the SFMTA and are fed up with promises of future visions of grandeur. Muni delivers less than 98.5% of scheduled service and has never met 85% of on time performance. Everyone complains about lack of notice, public outreach and citizen involvement in developing and approving citywide transit projects. Plans to revise Muni lines, along with threats to raise rates, fees and fines, have turned many Muni riders against the SFMTA and customer satisfaction is at an all time low. Residents are unlikely to support any new fares, fines, fees, bonds, or other funding measures to dig the SFMTA out of its financial hole. The SFMTA has lost the trust of residents and we believe the only way out of this mess is to pass a Charter Amendment to fix the MTA. Please sign the petition, leave your comments, join us or work with neighborhood groups to help us fix the MTA. Thank you for your support. Use the comments to let city officials know how you feel about the MTA when you sign the petition. Emails are required to avoid double signatures, but they are blind.

  • Bad Police should lose license to serve just like Drs. Nurses and Aides do if they abuse or kill ...
Far to often police officers are caught on video abusing or killing citizens illegally but nothing happens to them. They will get off, be suspended or in rare cases fired only to get hired at another police station with a clean record. Dr.,Nurses and Aids lose their licence to practice health care if they abuse or kill patients. This should be the same for police if your not going to prosecute them at least forbid them from ever policing society. they make all cops look bad. It's time to clean out the trash so good cops can shine once again, before we lose all respect for authority.
