• Tell FaceBook To Create "Turn Off" for "Auto-Play Videos" Feature
"Auto-Play Videos" uses extra bandwidth, which will cause some people to receive higher bills from an Internet Service Provider which has bandwidth limits. "Auto-Play Videos" plays videos first before they can be screened by parents and may cause harm to any minors who inadvertently see videos with questionable or unsuitable content. "Auto-Play Videos" usurps parental rights to pre-screen videos before they could cause any harm to any minors, including young children. The "Auto-Play Videos" Feature should have a "Turn Off" choice for Facebook users.

  • Congresswoman Duckworth: Help Extend Jobless Aid to 230k in IL
Unless Congress acts before the end of the year, unemployment benefits that help millions of long-term unemployed workers and their families will expire. The Economic Policy Institute estimates that failing to act will cost the economy $37.8 billion and 310,000 jobs. Denying jobless aid isn't just economically reckless -- it's morally wrong. Congress doesn't have much time to act before the first wave of workers is affected. That's why we need to let Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth know we're counting on her to support extending a lifeline to long-term unemployed workers.

  • End The Prefunding Of Retiree Benefits In USPS
The United States has had one of the best, if not the best postal service in the entire world. When I was a girl, I even had my savings in a postal account! This Christmas, while UPS failed, Priority Mail got my packages coast to coast in record time. I don't want to see our country rely solely on private services, available only to sophisticated urban communities. Save our postal service!

  • Illegallize Pesticides and Feed Lots
As a neighborhood family physician, I have an obligation to my community and the people of our country and planet to create a safe environment for living and re-creating healthy food options (remember, before World War II, all food was organic). Chemical pesticides are toxins, plain and simple; like all chemicals, the effect is dependent on the dose: at high doses, they are literally the same chemicals used for chemical weapons, at medium doses, they cause poisonings, at low doses they will contribute overall poor health and higher rates of disease. Additionally there are less vitamins in foods grown with pesticides - causing illness and disease in this way as well. Another problem with our food is the inhumane, unsanitary, and disease causing practice of raising animals in feed lots or cages and feeding them foods and antibiotics they were never intended to eat; this makes their meat, milk, and eggs unhealthy and disease causing. I hope to see the day when our country and world's food supply is again nourishing and healthy for all people and animals. Sincerely, Shay Shahram "Shay" Hosseinion, MD Family Physician Portland, OR

  • Save The Goliath Grouper
Please support the protection for the Goliath Grouper and stop our officials from repeating the same mistakes of the past. This fish is a success story for conservation and should remain protected for the enjoyment of the Eco-tourism and fishing industry.

  • Stop Veal NOW!!!
I'm against the slaughter of baby animals just so our societies rich people can brag about the food they eat but are so self centered that they don't think about the fact that their eating a BABY cow, a cow who wasn't even allowed to grow and become strong. I'm hoping that by the end of 2014 that this practice will be banned, and yes it affected me, after seeing the slaughter of baby animals it left me mentally scared and it makes me sick. Please think about the poor baby cows you could save.

  • Disney - Depose Duck Dynasty
Every freedom-loving American must stand against racism and homophobia. How can we enjoy The Walt Disney Company's family-friendly movies, TV shows, and theme parks knowing the same company is encouraging and profiting from the blatant racism and homophobia of "Duck Dynasty" patriarch Phil Robertson? Disney needs to take a moral stand by canceling Duck Dynasty immediately.

  • Thorium: A safe alternative source for nuclear energy
Unlike uranium, thorium burns almost entirely, with little residue that decays relatively quickly. We need safe grid support besides solar and wind in order to break our addiction to fossil fuels. America began this journey 40 years ago, and now it's time to finish the job.

  • Governor Abercrombie - Release Our School Funds
The Volcano School of Arts and Sciences (VSAS) is a 188 student, decade old, tuition free, state financed, State of Hawaii Charter Public School, opens to all. The VSAS receives about ½ the annual State funding per student as do surrounding ‘regular’ public schools. Yet the students at VSAS consistently academically score higher than those students in surrounding public schools. VSAS students learn in rotting tents and WWII Quonset huts reached by a rutted dirt and cinder road. The school auditorium is a sheet of Vinyl on large hoops, open to the rainforest weather on both ends. The playground is a former plantation equipment dump. Shards of metal continually work their way up underfoot where the children exercise and play at recess. The school is on leased land with high, annually increasing rent. The school’s burgeoning lease rent is the second highest line item in the school budget. As the rent increases, the school is forced to decrease enrollment to make ends meet. Almost a century ago citizens of Volcano gave another plot of land, designated as for school use, to the state (via the Territory). The state now leases that land back to the VSAS. The VSAS community has cobbled up enough money (in addition to paying their taxes to support State public schools) to pay for a new school plan done by an AIA registered architect, and to generate the required environmental assessment, archeological study, road traffic analysis, zoning and land use documents, flora and fauna analysis, flood insurance zone map and studies of available water, telephone electricity and sewage disposal resources for the new school. All are required by either the county or state. Thousands of hours of citizen volunteer efforts have been expended. Meanwhile, the kids trudge the dirt road to their rotting tents to leaking Quonset huts. With constant pleading by volcano citizens, the elected State Legislature has twice appropriated $618,000 of State construction and improvement funds specifically directed to the VSAS. The Governor of the State Hawaii, exercising virtual line item veto, has for two years, arbitrarily withheld these funds. Repeated pleas for their release have been ignored. Meanwhile, in August of this year the governor ‘released’ $1.8 million in construction funds almost exclusively directed for ‘regular’ public school athletic facilities, including a new ‘press booth’ for school athletic events. More ‘administrative’ offices and salaries and fringe benefits for more state employees were also added. The Hawaii County Fire Marshal has warned that the present VSAS facilities are unsafe for use by Volcano’s children. We are struggling to educate our children in one of the fastest growing areas in the state. We have given to the state land on which to build a decent new school. Our present ‘Third World’ school is already producing better educated children than nearby public schools. We have cobbled up $156,000 to contribute to our ‘bootstrap’ building effort. We have been successful in having our legislature re appropriate funds for a decent, safe school only to have the effort arbitrarily strangled by our Governor.
