WSSC, the water and sewer utility for Prince George's and Montgomery Counties in MD, uses a tiered flat rate system. That means that the more you use, the higher your rate for the entire amount. So an individual living alone may pay $7.01 for 1000 gallons of water, whereas a large family may pay $14.08 or more for 1000 gallons because their overall usage is higher. This rate structure places an excessive, unfair financial burden on larger households. A true tiered rate system would be structured like tax tables: pay one rate for the first 5000 gallons, a slightly higher rate for the next 5000, etc. This would be fairer to larger households while still encouraging conservation.

We do not want a tragedy like the Trayvon Martin case to happen to a citizen of Georgia because of our "shoot first," "stand your ground" law. No citizen should be profiled and shot while their perpetrator is allowed to go unpunished due to such a law with unclear applications and loopholes. Therefore, we call upon the Georgia Legislature to repeal Georgia's "Stand Your Ground" law. Sen. Vincent Fort has drafted legislation to repeal this law, and we call upon you to support and pass the repeal of "Stand Your Ground" in the state of Georgia!

For me, I've noticed, since about season two when Hook came on as a character, they've been promoting Hook this Hook that and slowly forgetting about everyone else. They were never ones to promote for my personal favorite character Neal, and I felt like less of a fan and person because they paid so much attention to Hook instead. House Speaker John Boehner should be removed from office because did not attempt in good faith to resolve the issue of extending the Unemployment Benefits prior to the recess of 1/18/2014, leaving millions of American's in limbo on basic living. Boehner 'stretched' this issue out after he was asked to resolve the issue prior to the recess. This meant more people went without any income based on Mr. Boehner's priorities (pleasure before work).

Washington Heights is full of young kids. Parents in District 6 (the most crowded district in New York City) compete for a handful of available spots in local public pre-Ks. Mother Cabrini High School is closing at the end of this school year. We urge the City to acquire this soon-to-be empty school building and convert it into pre-K and kindergarten to serve our under-served neighborhood.

The San Francisco Bay Area's public transportation network cannot adequately serve the region's transportation needs. In response, employers and institutions around the Bay Area have begun providing bus services to their workers and students. These buses have been shown to reduce car ownership, eliminating 45 million vehicle miles travelled from Bay Area roadways each year, and reducing carbon emissions by 11,000 metric tons. The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) has developed a pilot program that would allow such buses to pay to use SFMTA bus stops to load and unload their students and workers. The program would allow San Francisco residents to continue to use shuttles to commute, while reducing negative impacts on Muni services.

Christians rejoicing in the streets and happy that gays are being imprisoned for life, beaten to death, burned in street and murdered. For no other reason but they are gay.

Many seasonal workers across the state of Pennsylvania are ineligible to receive unemployment because of the Act 60 law that went into effect on Jan. 6, 2013. There is no work available due to winter weather conditions in careers such as highway construction, bridge work,landscaping, roofing to name a few. These people have full time jobs and a definite return to work date. They work 60 to 80 hours a week in the summer months and contribute to the unemployment fund. These seasonal workers are not abusing the system, but are unable to get help in the winter months. Please sign and let our government know that these skilled workers will leave these professions if they cannot get help when there is no work available. Should a person take another job for a few months then quit when they are called back to their full-time job? That job should go to someone who needs full-time employment.

Imagine getting stopped by the police because your face was covered with a scarf in freezing weather, being sexually assaulted by a police officer while you were handcuffed, and then getting charged with assault and resisting arrest as you were on your way to get emergency surgery for injuries inflicted on you by police during the attack. [1] It seems unbelievable, but all that just happened to 16-year-old Darrin Manning on January 7th, right here in Philadelphia, under the regressive, racist stop-and-frisk policies that have clearly continued in spite of promises to reform policing guidelines. It all started when a young African American man and his teammates, all in uniform on their way to play a school basketball game, were stopped and harrassed by a group of white officers for no obvious reason besides the color of their skin. [2] Darrin Manning was so badly injured in this attack by an officer yanking and squeezing his groin that he may never be able to father children of his own. This should never have happened, and it wouldn't have happened if not for the police department's stop-and-frisk practices. Police actions should not make our city more dangerous for any of our residents, especially our young people. It's must not be acceptable for any police department to treat children of color like they're guilty until proven innocent, or as if they're foreign invaders who don't have the same right to be unmolested in public spaces as white children. If Philadelphia's top-ranking elected officials are concerned about whether or not children in our city have good role models in their lives, I would ask that they start by looking at the behavior of our own police officers when they engage in this kind of routine street harassment and assault. Join me to ask Mayor Michael Nutter and District Attorney Seth Williams to investigate police actions in Philadelphia's 22nd District and insist that Philadelphia police conduct themselves in an orderly, law-abiding fashion, and be respectful of all our citizens.
