• Ask NC Department of Health and Human Services to launch an investigation into the public health ...
Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFO’s) are controversial for a number of reasons. Questions regarding the raising of such large numbers of animals in confined spaces, the overuse of antibiotics, and the impact on consumers of meat typically dominate the public dialogue in regards to these “factory farms.” What is often neglected is the health impact that CAFO’s have on communities, both locally and globally. These effects include typical industrial pollution, inescapable foul odors, and the contamination of soil and water. With North Carolina in particular being home to so many of these operations, there is an exigent need to better quantify the damage these industrial-scale monstrosities have on health and human safety.

  • Starbucks: Offer Almond Milk and Stevia
I am starting this because Starbucks has tons of money laying on the sidelines and won't even cater to those with allergens that can't even use their sugars and cremes. Why not have Almond Milk and Stevia or PureVia? The smaller mom and pop coffee shops do, why not them? They are the real heroes. If they did this they would bring in more customers to their locations and increase revenue. How does that not make sense?

  • HELP TEXAS WOMEN: Restore the reproductive healthcare funding that was taken away from them
We want to help Texas women and this includes your grandmothers, mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, nieces, co-workers, neighbors, friends, students, and most especially low-income women. The Texas Family Planning Program lost $73 million dollars during the 2011 legislative session. Thousands of Texas women have lost access to family planning services and low-cost healthcare. In 2012, the Women's Health Program lost it's federal funding due to Rick Perry's Affiliate Ban Rule. These setbacks have resulted in a 77 percent drop in the number of women being served by state health clinics and increased costs to taxpayers. Please consider signing our petition to restore equal funding to all family planning clinics, increase funding for the Women's Health Program and the Family Planning Program, and to integrate comprehensive sex education into school and clinic settings across Texas. Texas low-income women have lost access to family planning/birth control, well-woman exams, women's health education, breast/cervical cancer screenings, sexually transmitted disease testing and treatment, and access to pregnancy termination. We need your help. Please sign our petition.

  • Shut Down World Star Hip Hop
World Star Hip Hop and similar websites accept submissions of actual fights and feature them on their web page. This open promotion of violence creates a venue for violent individuals to gloat about their attacks. Not only is this a venue for those who are already violent, it also provides a forum for individuals who may not otherwise have been violent to gain notoriety. The most recent example of this is a video that was uploaded on World Star Hip Hop that features a brutal attack by a young lady named Sharkeisha; now #Sharkeisha is trending worldwide. To shut down this website would mean starting a dialogue not only about violence, but the promotion of violence through social media. Help this movement for social media change by signing this petition addressed to congress to make "fight video" websites illegal.

  • MOTHERS JUSTICE MOVEMENT: Stop New Jersey Judges from forcing defenseless children to be harmed b...
WE ARE PETITIONING FOR A STATEWIDE INVESTIGATION OF FAMILY COURT PRACTICES IN AN EFFORT TO STOP NEW JERSEY JUDGES FROM HARMING INNOCENT DEFENSELESS CHILDREN. New Jersey residents are being bled of our most valuable resource, the innocence of a child, and because of which, we are slowly losing our grip on the future of America. Since 1998, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has continued a lengthy investigation into adverse childhood experiences (ACE). ACE is one of the largest medical investigations ever conducted to assess associations between childhood maltreatment and later-life health and well-being. They found that a child’s exposure to certain traumas, including domestic violence, child sexual abuse, or being separated from their primary caregiving parent, resulted in more illnesses and injuries to children in childhood through adulthood, i.e., social emotional and cognitive impairment; adoption of health-risk behaviors; disease, disability and social problems; and PREMATURE DEATH. This study demonstrates how a child’s exposure to these elements are a PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUE. Yet every year, an estimated 58,000 children are court ordered into custody or unsupervised visitation with a reported abuser. Additionally, current research estimates that false allegations of sexual abuse happens less that 2% of the time, yet 85% of those children are court ordered into shared or sole custody with the parent that is raping them. Inadequately trained professionals tend to believe the myth that mothers frequently make false allegations, contrary to current research. Therefore, in thinking they have the needed expertise, family court professionals don't listen to domestic violence or child abuse evidence, experts, and they don't include current scientific research. Mothers are being forced into bankruptcy and poverty trying to protect their children, and their children are being irreparably harmed. Governor Chris Christie, House and Senate Representatives, we now have the medical research through the CDC to declare domestic violence, child abuse, and being separated from a primary attachment parent a PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUE. And the U.S. Department of Justice's Saunders report states that the STANDARD and REQUIRED domestic violence training received by judges, lawyers, and evaluators does not adequately prepare them to handle abuse cases. WE ARE PETITIONING FOR A STATEWIDE INVESTIGATION OF FAMILY COURT PRACTICES IN AN EFFORT TO STOP NEW JERSEY JUDGES FROM HARMING INNOCENT DEFENSELESS CHILDREN. We would like to see you, our leaders, echo your constituents concerns, and ensure that the HEALTH AND SAFETY OF A CHILD WILL COME FIRST IN DIVORCE AND CUSTODY LITIGATION. We thank you in advance for your support.

  • STOP THE VA FROM LYING
When not under oath, there is no penalty for VA lying to Congress. This encourages VA to lie, and saves Congress the trouble of prosecuting them. This is the root cause of the culture of lies at the VA. Swear them all in, prosecute the ones who lie.

  • "Is It OK To Kill Cyclists?"
    (1) We support a law which states that all drivers be held equally responsible to all people - motorists AND cyclists. (2) We support a law that treats cyclists as weaker participants in traffic, which they are, but NOT less important than drivers. (3) We support a law that does not minimize or trivialize collisions as mere "accidents" where drivers are not held ACCOUNTABLE for damages to or deaths of cyclists. (4) We support education and public outreach to inform BOTH motorists and cyclists of the rules-of-the-road.

  • Stop destruction of Palestinian Village
I am asking you to sign this petition to urge President Obama, Secretary of State, John Kerry and others to do everything in their power to stop the destruction of Susya, a Palestinian village in the West Bank. Demolition orders are to be executed on December 24th, 2013. I lived in Israel for eight years and traveled throughout the West Bank including the village of Susya many times. I have witnessed first-hand the oppressive and inhumane conditions imposed on Palestinians by Israeli military occupation. The confiscation of Palestinian lands to make way for Jewish settlements, destruction of homes, violence against men, women and children, and other human rights violations are not only against International law, but all laws of human decency. The residents of Susya have submitted five different versions of a master plan to Israeli authorities in an attempt to remain on their ancestral lands. Every plan has been rejected for obvious political reasons. Mr. President, on behalf of peace-loving peoples everywhere, we urge you to use all necessary means immediately to stop the demolition of yet another Palestinian village and the displacement of its residents .
