• Chipotle: Protect workers and customers with safety protocols and better working conditions!
My name is Teodora Flores, and I work at the Empire State Building Chipotle, prepping, cooking, and serving food with my coworkers on the frontlines of the COVID-19 crisis. When I became the sole provider of my family, Chipotle cut my hours and failed to take workplace safety seriously at my store. I know I am not alone. My Chipotle coworkers and I understand that the same structural racism that put us at risk of policing policies is at play at how we are treated in the fast food industry. As disproportionately Black and Brown workers, we stand together in demanding that the corporation that we work for values our lives like it should. Chipotle workers have been raising the alarm over conditions that are putting both customers and workers at risk during this pandemic. As essential workers we are providing food for our communities, but many of us have to work without safety measures like enforced social distancing. Many have seen our hours cut — reducing our eligibility for sick days and making us vulnerable to dangerous subway commutes. On top of that, our hazard pay is insulting, and Chipotle plans to remove it imminently. As stores reopen and Chipotle workers come into contact with an influx of customers, we do not need less hazard pay, we need 50% more. Chipotle workers face potential exposure to COVID-19 at the workplace for a paycheck that isn’t enough to support our families. To add insult to injury, if my coworkers and I were to contract COVID-19 on the job, most of us do not have access to affordable, quality health care. We believe everyone should have access to health care and safe working conditions—not just for Chipotle workers but for all. The health and safety of the customers we serve are directly tied to the health and safety of Chipotle workers. Chipotle is a company with a history of high-profile food-borne illness outbreaks that have sickened hundreds across the country over the last several years. Chipotle recently agreed to pay the largest-ever fine in a food-safety case of over $25 million over incidents that included workers working sick after feeling pressured not to call out. Chipotle turnover is 145% — lowering the skills and experience among workers handling food and sanitizing stores, which undermines safety. The coronavirus has highlighted the danger of standard industry practices for essential workers and the public. Chipotle should focus on fostering a stable and professional workforce that can focus on public safety. Chipotle’s stock price has risen to historic levels during the COVID-19 pandemic. The company has never been better position to meet our needs — the essential workers so central to Chipotle’s success. We are calling on Chipotle to live up to its ‘food with integrity’ slogan and protect customers and workers alike. Workers like us are calling on the company to: ✔ immediately ensure we have proper personal protective equipment and plexiglass barriers and inform us of workplace exposure to COVID-19. ✔ enforce safe social distancing practices in all stores and provide workers with sufficient hazard pay and hours to support our families during the pandemic. ✔ provide stable, full-time hours to all workers who want them in compliance with New York City’s Fair Workweek Law and to make sure more we have access to sick days to keep the public safe. Chipotle workers are essential to keeping stores running safely during the COVID-19 outbreak and beyond. Tell Chipotle that selling ‘food with integrity’ means protecting the safety and well-being of workers and the customers we serve. We are fighting for ourselves and the public. Will you join us by signing this?

  • Senators: Pass the HEROES Act
The coronavirus pandemic has had a devastating impact on lives and livelihoods all across the U.S. With over 100,000 dead and 40 million unemployed, the scale of this crisis is hard to grasp. And yet, the GOP-led Senate has failed to take action that meets the needs that so many of us are facing in this moment. On May 15, the House of Representatives took the first step and passed the HEROES Act, a comprehensive bill that includes much needed relief, protections, and funding for states & localities, essential workers, immigrants, and more. Now it’s the Senate’s turn to action and pass the HEROES Act immediately. By providing money for state and city governments, this bill will save jobs and help fund essential services like schools and fire departments. By providing direct stimulus payments, it will provide some relief to millions. By providing protections for essential workers, it will ensure that those keeping our country going can have their health, well-being and finances taken care of. But even before the bill was passed, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was already downplaying the crisis and the need for relief, saying “I don’t think we have yet felt the urgency of acting immediately” when asked about passing more legislation. The tens of millions of unemployed workers are feeling the urgency of this crisis. The people waiting for hours in lines outside food banks are feeling the urgency of this crisis. The essential workers putting their lives on the line without the protection and equipment they need are feeling the urgency of this crisis. And if we take action together, we can make sure that our Senators feel the same urgency that so many of us, all across the U.S., are feeling. Sign the petition and call on the Senate to pass the HEROES Act without delay.

  • Fire President Jerry Falwell, Jr. From Liberty University
    1. Liberty University will remain complicit in the racism of Jerry Falwell, Jr. If they allow him to remain President of Liberty University 2. The black face and KKK Twitter picture and comment Jerry Falwell, Jr. posted weaponized the deep seeded heritage of racism as a political ploy for his own personal gain! 3. Furthermore, advertising and selling the masks with the Governor of Virginia's high school photo wearing black face next to a KKK member profits off of the racial injustice faced by African-Americans and defames the name of Christ for which the university is to represent! FALWELL MUST GO!

  • Quick Action: Tell Subway to Ban the Open Carry of Firearms!
As many of our local restaurants begin to reopen with new safety measures in place to protect us from COVID-19, our excitement is tempered by alarm as we see another threat to our safety re-emerge in some of those same restaurants: the threat of gun violence. No matter what we look like, where we live, or where we come from, we want to be safe and free from the threat of gun violence. On May 9th, a dozen protesters openly displayed weapons – including pistols, shotguns, and even what appeared to be an AT4 rocket launcher! – as they ordered food from a Subway restaurant in Raleigh, North Carolina. No one wants to feel scared as we begin to return to our favorite restaurants. Help us tell Subway CEO John Chidsey to ban the open carry of firearms in all Subway stores, and tell people to leave their guns at home!

  • SAVE OUR USPS - HANDS OFF THE POSTAL SERVICE
The United States Postal Service is a national treasure and an integral part of American History since 1669. It was ratified by the the Second Continental Congress 250 years ago, on July 27, 1775, with Benjamin Franklin as the first Postmaster General. The United States Postal Service has kept its promise that neither snow, nor rain, nor dark of night, nor Coronavirus would keep them from delivering the mail. They have been faithful to America in famine, drought, depression, economic downturns, snowstorms, hurricanes, pandemics. The USPS has been a symbol of American Pride and Ingenuity. Now the USPS needs the help of all Americans to keep it from being a political pawn. "We cannot, and must not and must not and will not allow our USPS to be trashed; it's an emblem of the American spirit, a symbol of America's success and, helped build the country, and is a deep source of pride for generations and generations of American Postal Workers(BHO)." 1) The USPS is designed to provide service to Americans regardless of their address, location, wealth or lack thereof, or station in life 2) Privatization of the US Mail will further hasten the destruction of American institutions already under siege by the current administration 3) Tampering with it or the US mail is a federal offense backed by the US Constitutional 4) The US Postal Service employs more disabled and capable US veterans than any other entity in the United States; and is one of the largest single source employee in the US. 5) Destruction of the US Postal Service will throw millions of Americans out of work 6) The United States Postal Service is not a for profit entity, but a service and a right for every American citizen

  • Walmart: Give all Workers Hazard Pay
Retail and grocery workers are taking big risks right now to serve our communities, putting their own health on the line to make sure we’re all able to get what we need to continue our lives. But Walmart is failing its 1.5 million workers, despite us being deemed “essential.” Thousands of Walmart workers have contracted COVID-19 and at least 21 have died. Workers are staffing stores every day with little protections and precautions other than a vest, mask, and some plexiglass at the registers. Meanwhile, Walmart is making record profits while continuing to avoid responsibility and pay poverty wages. Walmart’s bottom line isn’t more important than the health and safety of its workers and the communities that we serve. Workers deserve to be compensated for the extra risks they are taking on. Walmart must institute hazard pay of 1.5x the regular hourly wage for the duration of the pandemic.

  • Walmart: Create a Coronavirus Task Force with Worker Representation
Retail and grocery workers are taking big risks right now to serve our communities, putting their own health on the line to make sure we’re all able to get what we need to continue our lives. But Walmart is failing its 1.5 million workers, despite us being deemed “essential.” Thousands of Walmart workers have contracted COVID-19 and at least 21 have died. Workers are staffing stores every day with little protections and precautions other than a vest, mask, and some plexiglass at the registers. Meanwhile, Walmart is making record profits while continuing to avoid responsibility and pay poverty wages. Enough is enough. Walmart can’t continue to put the lives of its workers—and those of the communities that we serve—at risk to further its bottom line. Workers deserve a voice in Walmart’s response to the coronavirus pandemic. The corporation needs to immediately set up a coronavirus task force that includes hourly workers, health experts, and community and public policy leaders.

  • #JusticeforDavisBrothers Governor Asa Hutchinson must GRANT TIME CUT/CLEMENCY NOW!
In 1994, 2 Black Men Lamarr Davis, 21 years of age and Arthur Davis Jr., 25 years of age, were charged with aggravated robbery. No one was shot, stabbed, or killed during this robbery which took place at Prattsville One Stop store in Grant County outside of Sheridan Arkansas (a very well known racist area). Both of these brothers were given a sentence of life in prison without parole. The robbery was a first offense for Lamarr Davis. They received excessive sentencing, a direct violation of their eighth amendment. The Eighth Amendment of the Constitution states: 'Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted. ' The amendment is meant to safeguard Americans against excessive punishments. The Davis brothers were sentenced to life and have served 26 years to date. They have been left to spend the remaining days of their lives in prison and their crime does not fit with the time they received. We must act NOW to end this racially charged excessive sentencing. We are demanding justice for the Davis brothers. They have given up so much of their lives to the prison system and Enough is Enough. We Must seek just for this injustice NOW! Sign the petition demanding Governor Asa Hutchinson immediately grant time cut/clemency for the Davis brothers.

  • The George Floyd Protection Act
To hear "I can't breath" 11-12 times while bystanders beg the officer to get off George Floyd's neck because he is killing him is life changing. This officer did not remove his full body weight from George Floyd's neck while he too begged and pleaded for his life. George Floyd's exact words to the officer were, "You're killing me." The officer remained on George Floyd's neck for 5-8 minutes with his hand in his pocket supporting the fact that George Floyd was no threat to these officers; therefore, the continued restraint with his full body weight to George Floyd's neck is criminal. A blatant violation of the city's police policy deems the officers' acts criminal. No human being can withstand a trauma of this magnitude. It depicts the lowest level of inhumanity. This egregious act violated George Floyd's civil rights; sentencing him to death without evidence that the 'misdemeanor' crime being charged was factual. Implementing "The George Floyd Protection Act" will save the lives of many and stop this pattern of blatant homicidal acts by those who have no regard to the oath to protect and serve. Knowing there are penalties, fines, and potential imprisonment can save lives.

  • Justice for George Floyd
Minneapolis police kill black people at a rate 13x higher than white people - a larger racial disparity than almost anywhere else in the nation. This is unconscionable. These grave injustices have got to stop, immediately! You have the opportunity to redress some of the wrong that’s been done by prosecuting all of the police officers who were involved in murdering George Floyd. The police need to stop justifying hate crimes and MURDER by giving causes for the use of lethal and excessive force, instead of making police de-escalate & holding them accountable for their inherent biases. No human being should have to live in mortal fear because of racial profiling and criminalizing black and brown men in Minneapolis and in other American cities!

IF YOU DO NOT STAND UP FOR MISTREATMENT IT PERSISTS! (READ ALL) This is so important because when you do not speak up against unfair treatment it continues. Most residents were charged for living on campus during a semester we were forced to leave. We were not advised to take out things under the impression that we would come back. We then pay for a traditional semester while being restricted to online courses with teachers who are not familiar with online learning. In addition, we were forced to live without our summer clothes, dorm TV, or other personal effects for months due to a poor judgement call on administration. Lastly, we are now expected to travel to campus to pack and remove our things in a short 2.5 hours slot allotted from administration, or pay to have all of our things packed and stored with no consideration of students circumstances. We cannot allow this to continue. Us, the students are the customers our participation, loans, parent/student payments keep that institution afloat and we have a right to speak out when we feel we are not being considered. If you are unsatisfied with ANY of this sign this.
