  • President Obama: No New Missile Tests and Confer With the UN on Nuclear Weapons
This Thursday, September 26 has special significance to those who want to achieve a world free of nuclear weapons. It is the date for the UN High-Level Meeting on Nuclear Disarmament. Instead of working in good faith to achieve nuclear disarmament, the United States chose to schedule two tests of its Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missile on September 22 and September 26. On the same day that most countries will send their head of state or foreign minister to New York for the UN’s first-ever High-Level Meeting on nuclear disarmament, the U.S. plans to send a Minuteman III missile from California to the Marshall Islands. These missiles are designed to carry nuclear warheads capable of killing thousands of times more people than the chemical weapons used in Syria. Urgent actions have helped stop Minuteman III tests before: in 2011 on the International Day of Peace, and in 2012 on the anniversary of the largest-ever nuclear weapon test conducted by the U.S. (Castle Bravo in the Marshall Islands). Everyone’s signature is needed to try to stop the September 26 test as well. Send a message to President Obama, telling him to cancel this second provocative nuclear missile test and to attend the UN High-Level Meeting on September 26.

  • Ban on Hiring Military Veterans
It is very unfair to give preference (points) to veterans over people better qualified with foreign language skills, graduate or professionals degrees and law enforcement experience. Although I have respect for veterans, there should be an equal opportunity to all citizens when applying to federal agencies.

  • F.D.A. should stop playing a political game by suppressing the use of the significantly safer dru...
I have Hashimoto's disease. They are natural drugs out there that can help me and millions of others who are suffering just like me. I can't get these drugs legally, even though they are cheap and effective and have been used for a very long time including here in the US. We can't get these meds because big pharma is not going to make money from natural drugs they can't patent. FDA would go after any medical practitioners if they would dare to prescribe you something that is legal in Canad and around the World. However, the problem doesn't end with my condition. They are many others just like me who have different conditions and need different treatments and we are forced to support the "business of drugs". For how long? I am still alive so I will try to change it while I still can. Please, help if you could.

  • President Obama: Urgently Protect People from Fukushima Nuclear Disaster
    1) Fukushima is NOT "under control." The initial contaminated water that contains cesium-137 is expected to reach the U.S. West Coast in 3-5 years, i.e. in 2014-2016. Cesium-137 has a half-life of 30 years and can accumulate in living tissues.
On July 22, 2013, TEPCO finally admitted there has been an estimated 300 tons of water highly contaminated with strontium-90 leaking into the Pacific Ocean on a daily basis. Strontium-90 is a bone-seeking isotope.
They are both already traveling up the food chain.  Currently the Japanese Government is NOT monitoring strontium-90 and has NOT set its safety standard for Japanese fisheries.  The U.S. should immediately start closely monitoring all seafood imported from Japan. 2) Currently there is no effective solution for: 2-1) Contaminated Water Leaks: The Government’s underground frozen wall plan is effective only as an immediate, temporary solution. The ALPS, the multiple nuclides removing system, cannot remove this high level of contamination. The density of the leaked contaminated water is reported to be 80 million Becquerel per liter, while the Government safety standard is 30 Becquerel per liter. And ALPS cannot remove Tritium at all. 2-2) Unit #4's Zirconium Explosion: The nuclear power plant #4 can collapse anytime and the zirconium fire disaster will follow. The disaster will release the radioactive equivalent of 14,000 Hiroshima-sized bombs and 10 times more cesium than Chernobyl.  3) Two Years of Information Cover-Ups by TEPCO and the Japanese Government 3-1) TEPCO already knew the steel walls around the units would be necessary within a year to prevent the leaks and estimated its cost to be 100 billion yen in June 2011. There is a TEPCO’s document addressed to then Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Kaieda requesting him to conceal the estimate, avoiding its large cost and the criticisms from the media and their upcoming shareholders' meeting.  3-2) The Fukushima redevelopment fund which contains up to 19 trillion yen, has been mostly used for numerous unrelated projects throughout Japan. METI, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has admitted 230 million yen was used to defend the whaling industry against the Sea Shepherd. • Stop Canned Hunting Murder
The animals trapped for canned hunts experience the same emotions as people do… believe it or not, it is true. My friend has been to one of these farms following a very young lioness she fell in love with. All during their youth on the farms they are poked by long stick like devices... to have the humans you depend on for food also be abusive. This alone is cruel and then to be put in a larger enclosure with no way to escape and be exploring new territory in all of it's excitement and turn around only to be met by a human being's bullet is like the ultimate betrayal. The joy is gone. The Golden Rule applies to animals too. All animals have the right to life. Aren't you happy you have had a chance to live a full most natural life and not be gunned down while you are exploring some new place?

  • Change Byrd Stadium Title
University of Maryland prides itself on diversity and acceptance the school should not have a major campus landmark named after a president that did not believe in that diversity. While the separate but equal mindset was acceptable when the stadium was named, times have changed. In respect to the students of all nationalities a new name should be selected.

  • Sesame Place Appears to Practice Racial Discrimination
From its inception, Sesame Street has mirrored the cultural diversity of its viewers. Consequently, its young viewers can find reflections of their own faces and families on the show. This inclusion helps the children feel valued and included. Over the past 3 years, I’ve observed that the customers at Sesame Place seem to come from similarly diverse backgrounds. However the workers at the park’s restaurants and maintenance departments appear to be mostly black. Conversely, ticket booth and Welcome Center workers and parade members appear to be 99.999% white. Children learn their sense of identity not only from their families, but also from society. They need to see people of all colors working at all types of jobs so that they can understand that their own potential has no limits. Children learn from Sesame Street. Unfortunately, it appears the park is teaching the wrong message.

  • End Sand Fracking In Wisconsin
The hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking" business is creating a bigger problem to our lack of natural gas. The results of sand fracking include the destruction of Wisconsin's hills and bluffs, water pollution and quantity, air pollution, lower property values, infertile land, a rise in the lung disease silicosis, contamination of ground water, and other highly damaging effects. To learn more, please read the article, "Against the Grain: Fracking companies mine rural Wisconsin for sand" by Ellen Cantarow here: http://grist.org/natural-gas/against-the-grain-fracking-companies-mine-rural-wisconsin-for-sand/
