Gov. Christie: Return the wasted "Stronger than the Storm" fundsOn Sunday the Asbury Park Press revealed that Chris Christie wasted millions in Sandy relief funds to promote himself on television in the run up to the gubernatorial election. Reports indicate that he chose a politically connected firm that was almost twice as expensive as its competitors because it promised to feature him and his family in their ads. Two firms bid on the ad campaign to promote the shore over the summer and fall. One cost $4.7 million, the other cost $2.5 million. But the more expensive firm pitched a campaign featuring Governor Christie and his family, and the less expensive firm didn't. The Christie campaign has more than enough funds to field its own ads, and to misuse Sandy funds for taxpayer subsidized reelection advertisements is unconscionable. They should reimburse the state so that the $2 million can be spent for the benefit of communities devastated by Sandy.859 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by Bill Holland

Suspend our “sister-city” relationship with anti-gay Russian cityHonolulu should send a clear message that violence against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender citizens of Kyzyl is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Russia's elected leaders are out of control—and we can't stand for it any longer. Russian law allows police officers to arrest tourists and foreign nationals they suspect of being homosexual, lesbian, or “pro-gay” and detain them for up to 14 days. Russia's “gay propaganda” law makes any parents who tell their children that being gay is okay, any Pride parade organizer, any health official distributing information regarding safe sex between same-sex partners, and even judges and lawyers subject to arrest or fine. Already people are being arrested, beaten, intimidated, and more. Russia’s sports minister, Vitaly Mutko, has said that foreign nationals would be subject to this law.260 of 300 SignaturesCreated by James (Jim) Clement

Slapping women is not a joke.A Republican Super PAC has put out a new online "game" where they ask their supporters to virtually slap Hillary Clinton across the face. The Super PAC is known as The Hillary Project and is an anti-Hillary Clinton group that lists Christopher Marston--a Republican campaign consultant and a former member of the Bush administration--as its treasurer. Violence against women is not a joke. It's disgusting, it's outrageous and--regardless of where you fall on the political spectrum--it has no place in our politics. Can you sign the petition demanding The Hillary Project pull down this game and apologize for advocating violence against women?1,693 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Nita and Shaunna, UltraViolet

Russia's anti gay propaganda law in the OlympicsRussian officials have told gay Olympic athletes and spectators preparing for 2014's Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia—and anyone publicly showing support for them—that they will be prosecuted under Russia's "gay propaganda" law, which makes talking about being gay, waving a rainbow flag, or holding hands with a same-sex partner in public illegal. An international outcry can convince Russian leaders to change their policy. At least 83 U.S. cities have a sister-city relationship with a Russian city—and MoveOn members in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Charlotte are already calling on their cities to suspend ties with their Russian sister city until Russia welcomes gay athletes and spectators to the Winter Olympics.263 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Joseph A. The Raise in the State Base Pay of Servers/WaitersI am one among the legions of the growing disenfranchised that work honestly, hard, and continually, daily. We pay taxes, we pay child support, we buy our uniforms and supplies as needed all from this meager and undignified source of income. The base pay for servers/waiters in Texas is $2.13 since 1991. Please, help us raise the pay to match the cost of living, inflation, and other unseen variables. That further hinder us and not help us in our pursuit of Liberty and Happiness.67 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Juan C. Flores
