The idea of HOME is sacred. We can all appreciate the value of our own place to lay ourselves down and have a little peace as we rest and prepare to greet the day and the world outside. Many among us don’t have this special restorative place, in fact, there are an estimated 1,500 people without a safe place to rest in the City of Santa Cruz, and another 1,500 people in the county. We, the undersigned believe there is a way to provide this to everyone—A Santa Cruz Sanctuary Camp, a designated area where people can rest, keep their things, build community, and find the support they need to rebuild their lives. Well meaning citizens have assumed the local services would provide what these folks need, but over the past years we’ve seen that despite the many day services provided, 95% of homeless folks still fend for themselves out in the cold dark night as they sleep out in the open. Emergency shelter space can be a 2 month wait and many report that they are never admitted at all. Maximum bed space is enough for only 5% of the homeless population. Consequently, most of our homeless population sleep out in the open, in bushes, in doorways, and in the woods in violation of the city ordinance which bans sleeping after 11 pm. This illegal camping exposes homeless people to inclement weather, violence and theft from others in the homeless community, harassment from vigilante groups, and scorn from the rest of the citizenry. Often the desperation one feels when sleeping out in the open exacerbates other existing conditions like mental illness and drug abuse. It is nearly impossible for someone who has become homeless to rebuild their life when forced to sleep in a bush and carry the last vestiges of their life in a backpack on their back. Besides the toll homelessness takes on the individuals who are forced to fend for themselves, local homeless experts have admitted that the amount of money spent on homeless is unquantifiable. The range of “services” provided is very large and includes emergency medical/ambulance, law enforcement/jail/courts, mental health etc, and the amount spent on these annually can easily climb into the tens of millions. That doesn’t include the several million dollars spent on actual homeless services. The amount is staggering when we realize how few people are actually served. Sanctuary Camps provide safe and grounding spaces for individuals to address substance abuse, mental illness, and emotional problems. People could learn about services available to them, and have support around taking medication or staying sober. Besides offering assistance to the county’s homeless population, a Sanctuary Camp would improve the city overall, reducing general vagrancy in residential, business and tourist areas, decreasing crime and police calls for homeless issues, and setting aside natural areas as places for recreation, not homeless encampments. Examples all over the country demonstrate that with Sanctuary Camps communities are safer and cleaner, and homeless people are better able to move up and out of homelessness. Santa Cruz Sanctuary Camp proposes the establishment of a pilot camp of between 25 - 50 residents to demonstrate its effectiveness over the winter. This will require a 1 acre piece of land on city, county, private or church property. Additionally the camp will request a garbage dumpster emptied weekly. The camp will use 1 porta-potty per 20 persons. A list of rules will be enforced 24 hours a day at the gate staffed in rotating shifts by a Responsible Person and a Support Person with the support of an external Steering Committee. The camp will be bound by an Art Wall and and Entrance Portal. The camp will have good relations with local authorities, the media and the community at large. We, the undersigned, encourage our city and county elected officials to allow the creation of a Sanctuary Camp and to form a partnership by allowing use of a small parcel of land and a dumpster service contract. This camp will cost very little, but will do so much.

With a record setting disapproval rate, politicians are still planning to take a summer break. I'm calling for all American's, Democrats, Republicans, Conservatives and Liberals to ban together and take back our country. Let's work together and put pressure on each and every one of our elected representatives to get them back to work and solve our country's problems. Each party keeps blaming the other and nothing is getting done and they feel entitled to take a break and keep earning money. Which we pay. Our politicians need to skip their vacation and get back to work or resign from office and admit they are incompetent. Hello my name is Ms. Sounte Sherron the reason for my Petition. I'm so disgusted with Oklahoma Health Care System there is no love here seems like. And this is my home State. The system sucks bottom line, so behind, so out dated. They help the disabled, but not enough to those that really need it, we are not like other states who help you. I have never had the problems I have faced since I moved back from Chicago, Illinois with my kids, an disabled mother. She recieved all the help she needed with no questions asked my mother did. I even worked for the State of Illinois 2 1/2 years as my Moms PA/ Personal Assistant, the state paid me well to take care of my mom. They wanted me to take care of her, because it cost them less to pay me then to pay the Nursing home thousands of dollars to take care of Her. I have been getting the run around since we moved back in 2011. I been told I can't get paid because I'm her daughter we live in the same house. Makes no sense, I'm doing all the work she is 24 hour care, she in a hospital bed, paralyzed on the left side, incontinent, practically bed ridden. She suffered a massive Brain stroke in 2008. If I wasnt able to draw my unemployment for a year and 1/2 we wouldn't have made it this far. But after that ended I went without an income for myself almost 6 months before I started working again. I had no choice but to go back to work. I refuse to put my mom in a nursing home for the rest of her days permantely. It's a shame that I can't get paid to take care of her here. So they say DHS, when many people have told me that's not true. People are getting paid to take care of there loved ones as I speak. Here in Oklahoma it almost took me over a 1 year to get my mom approved for medicaid for the second time around. The first time it took 6 months to get her approved, left a big bill at the nursing home over our heads, until the State backed paid the outstanding balance. But after a month the State took it away from her just like that, said she get to much money not true, that's a lie. She is well under the income guide lines. I was told by a case manager at DHS. So whats the problem???? When she was in Chicago she was approved an kept the benefits until we moved away had no problems at all. Sometimes I wish I never moved back here, I took a big pay cut. All my moms supplies were covered, since we be here I have had to buy her incontinent supplies every month. When she should be getting them free, delivered to our door every month. I came down here, I had to re-apply the day after we arrived for Medicaid, my mom temporarily stayed in a nursing home until I found a house an got settled it took 3 months. You want believe the case manager denied my mother because he said he had no proof that her case was closed in Chicago. When my argument was just put her in the system , Medicaid would see she can't be at two places at one time she can't be in Chicago if she now in Oklahoma. But he went by the book so he say. He Gave me the blues. There is so much more I want to share with my experiences with Oklahoma health care. Trying to get everything for my Mother hasn't been fair. Bottom line Oklahoma health care needs change, needs up grading. My mom was born an raised in Oklahoma. She worked as a LPN charge nurse 25 years different states, from California, Oklahoma, to Chicago where she did 8 years home health care. She has worked hard all her life she has paid the price to reap all the benefits she can get being retired & disabled at age 64. I feel the system is designed to help who they want to help. I believe they really want me to put her in the nursing home, so the nursing home can get her money its been said in so many words. She doesn't want to be in a nursing home permanently for that very reason. So on that note I'm still taking good care of my mom. Despite the fact I work weekend doubles only for my job. Thanks to my daughter an baby son who take care of thier Grandma while I'm at work. I thank god for them. It's not easy nor has it been fair the way there system is. If I could change things around here, make a difference, I definetly would. So want you sign my petition take a stand with me if you agree lets make some noise together. With the upcoming decisions regarding our Gray Wolves and their need for Federal protection under the Endangered Species Act, this petition wishes to draw NEEDED NATIONAL ATTENTION to the issue of our wolves being targets of hate, animal cruelty, and slaughter, by both illegal and legal means. We feel that their situation is dire without immediate attention and Federal investigation and intervention.

As a taxpayer, I have been paying my share of $174,000 for each of the Republican congressmen, who have done no meaningful work for the past five years.

After asking several times for handicapped parking in front of my home, Wyalusing removed on street parking except for church and carnival functions leaving me without a place to park since my property is the only one without alternative parking. Their action has devalued the property because it is landlocked as well as making me a shut-in, unable to get to food, doctors, mail and other necessities.
