• Label Genetically Modified Foods in TN
Over 85% of foods in the grocery store contain genetically modified material, and yet there have been NO long term studies on their effects on public health. We should have the right to know and to choose for ourselves.

  • Granparents deserve rights in Kentucky!!!
This is important because there are some children whose grandparents are their sole caretakers. It makes it really hard when children are left with grandparents to raise, and take care of emotionally/physically and financially, but the biological parent can just come and rip them away at any time. This is traumatic to the children, and it's hard on the grandparents as well. If we have the right to take these kids to the doctor, and administer medications, buy clothing and food and diapers and take them to school, etc etc, then we should be able to have rights. It's really sad when you are the only "parent" a child knows, and then the biological parent comes and takes the child from you, and is completely unfit, and the child's life and health is endangered, and we are told "I'm sorry, grandparent's have no rights in Kentucky" and we can't do anything to help them! Grandparents need and deserve rights in Kentucky!!!

  • President Obama: Justice for the Late Pfc. LaVena Johnson
The Army’s account of what happened to LaVena was riddled with contradictions, from the alleged self-inflicted wound to where the body was found. Every piece of information uncovered was a painful and laborious act because of the Army’s refusal to cooperate.

  • Bill Enyart explain your vote against Obamacare!
I campaigned for Representative Enyart with the understanding that we had certain Democratic ideals in common, universal health care at the top of the list. I know several people who have already gotten refunds, yes refunds, from their health insurance providers thanks to the Affordable Care Act. I also have children in my own family born with what insurers call pre existing conditions who needed health care they are now getting. I want this progress to continue for the benefit all Americans.

  • Police Chief: "We're gonna give two to Nancy [Pelosi], then we're gonna put two in her face."
A Schuylkill County (Pennsylvania) police chief is making national news for his videos that seemingly encourage people to shoot U.S. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. Gilberton (PA) Police Chief Mark Kessler also calls his political opponents "libtards," who should "go f*** yourselves." In one video, he shoots a target he calls "Nancy Pelosi" while saying, "We're gonna give two to Nancy, then we're gonna put two in her face." (see videos at http://tinyurl.com/FireKessler NSFW) This outrageous behavior should result in his immediate firing. It is obvious that a person like this cannot objectively carry out his duties. So what is the reaction of the mayor of Gilberton? She says it’s a free speech issue and she won’t stop him. Her reaction is almost as outrageous as Kessler’s comments. Write to Mayor Mary Lou Hannon and the Gilberton Borough Council. Tell them to fire Kessler today. He obviously lacks the temperament, levelheadedness and objectiveness that any law enforcement office needs. He is clearly unable to protect people who disagree with him. He needs to be removed from his position immediately. Here’s a summary of his recent videos: In a video that has received wide attention, police chief Mark Kessler repeatedly tells those upset by his use of profanity to “go f*ck yourself” as he fires various automatic weapons. Mayor Mary Lou Hannon told The Morning Call that Kessler had the right to express himself. The city would “not take action to quash free speech, whether or not each member of council or any member of council agrees with it.” Kessler has uploaded several profanity-laced videos to YouTube. In one video, Kessler berates “libtards” and warns of an armed rebellion against the government. “F*ck all you libtards out there, as a matter of fact, read my shirt,” he says, turning around to show a message on his back which read, “Liberals take it in the a**.” “You take it in the a** and I don’t give a f*ck what you say so you can all just go f*ck yourselves. Period. I wont be going to D.C. and I don’t give a f*ck. If you f*cking maniacs want to turn this into an armed revolt, knock yourselves out. I’m not about that, so see you on the other side.” In a video on basic pistol defense, Kessler repeatedly shoots a picture of scary clown, which he says is Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). He calls Secretary of State John Kerry a “c*cksucker” in another video before firing off an automatic weapon. (Thanks to Susie Madrak, writing at Crooks and Liars) Write to Mayor Mary Lou Hannon and the Gilberton Borough Council. Tell them to fire Kessler today.

  • Ban Fracking in Hayward and the whole state of California
I belong to Food and Water Watch. I have going to ban fracking events and speaking against fracking at city councils, for a few years. I pass out papers informing the public about the dangers of fracking and refer them to watch "Gasland: Can you Light your Water on fire?" and You Tube videos about fracking: Fracking Hell: The Untold Story from Link TV and on You Tube. Fracking also brings up radiation, besides poisoning the water and air with chemicals. This will cause food and water shortages globally. The cement in many of the fracking wells on farms have failed and poisoned aquifers. The wars of the world will be fought over water and food. My relatives live in Penn. and Youngstown Ohio, where the fracking has contaminated the water. My uncle Steve, owned a farm in West Virginia and leased it to the gas drillers. When the least was up, he could not get them to leave his property. He fought them in court for many years. He could not afford to fight them, but did until his death 2 years ago. He tried to get his property back and failed.

  • Guarantee Affordable Housing in the Crown Heights West Rezoning
Despite the drastic increase in rent in the Crown Heights neighborhood, the proposed rezoning for Crown Heights West offers no guarantees that new housing will be affordable to existing residents. The rezoning only includes a voluntary incentive, called Inclusionary Zoning, for developers to build some affordable units within market-rate developments. This incentive has a track record in NYC of resulting in few affordable units, and a vast array of luxury housing. Regardless of whether developers take the affordable housing incentive, they would be allowed to build larger buildings, which would increase the property value. This could mean: • Rents could increase. • Existing housing and retail space could be demolished. • Tenants could face increased harassment to leave their apartments. We need your help to tell the New York City Council to include protections for affordable housing and increased penalties for harassing tenants in the proposed Crown Heights West rezoning. We're asking NYC to: 1. Adopt Mandatory Inclusionary Zoning, a policy that guarantees a certain percentage of affordable units in new developments under a rezoning. 2. Establish an anti-harassment area, which requires the City to look into whether harassment occurred when it receives demolition requests and penalizes landlords who harass tenants. This petition is sponsored by the Crown Heights Assembly, a coalition of long-term residents and newcomers working for affordable and harassment-free housing in Crown Heights.
