• Vote August 15 for Increased Everglades Funding
Unless we act now to enhance the Regional Climate Action Plan specifics to protect the Everglades from saltwater intrusion, increased pollutant problems and climate change rainfall stormwaters, we will be unable to assure the health of the Everglades or our southeastern counties' low-lying populations.

  • Make Poverty Unconstitutional
Gandhi said that poverty is the worst form of violence. Our Declaration of Independence states that all have the inalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Poverty denies those rights. At best, a person in poverty has only a half-life - if that. One has little or no liberty as one is imprisoned in the desperate struggle for food, shelter, health care etc. One cannot pursue happiness when one lives perpetually on the edge of starvation. Approximately 50 million people live in poverty in the U.S. according to government figures. 5 million children go to bed every night hungry. Clearly our system has failed and will continue to fail these people. The only solution is to make poverty unconsititutional and to require the government to do whatever it takes to get rid of this grinding poverty. For example, the government could make it a criminal offense for an employer not to pay a living wage. Not a minimum wage, for there are no minimum human beings. A living wage. Every man, woman and child has the right to adequate food, clothing, housing, medical care and education. And we have the resources to do it. If you employ somebody to help you, common humanity says that you should pay him/her a living wage, and not a sub-human wage. I hope that the good people of this country - and there are many good people - rise up and sign this Petition to make Poverty Unconstitutional? Once and for all we need to end the scourge of poverty - both here and around the world. So, let us start here, and let it be a different kind of shot that is heard around the world. We cannot be the UNITED States if we are not united. So, let us unite together to end poverty by enshrining it in the Constitution. Thank you

  • When doing the right thing doesn't pay off
We vote, pay taxes, pay our bills on time; and because I graduated from graduate program and have a good job, we get denied Federal and local grants. We lost almost everything in Hurricane Sandy and have been paying our mortgage on a house we cannot live in. We have only lived in our home, our first and only, for two years.

  • US Representative Bill Owens, why did you vote to delay Obamacare?
As someone who has been involved in the healthcare field for over 25 years, in several different capacities, I understand the vital need for change. The waste, inefficiency, and overpricing in the current system cannot be sustained, just so that corporations and their stockholders can continue to thrive.

  • Allow Popular Initiative and Referendum in PA
Referenda give the legislature the true opinion of the voting public on issues, and initiative is no more subject to abuse by special interest groups than the legislative process. Referenda give a voice to anyone who is registered to vote, and have worked very well in states that use them.

  • Stop Corporate Tax Dodging, Invest in US!
Many multi-national corporations have been remarkably successful in manipulating the tax system to avoid paying even a dime of tax on billions of dollars of profits. That's wrong and it’s past time for Congress to end corporate tax dodging. Instead of maintaining policies that allow the super-rich and huge corporations to avoid paying their fair share of taxes through foreign tax havens, we need Congress to invest in US! We need to rebuild an America that works for working families and the middle class.

  • Make the Detroit Institute of Arts a National Monument
President Obama has the power with the stroke of a pen to designate the Detroit Institute of Arts as a national monument. I am a native Detroiter, and I love the Detroit Institute of Arts. The thought of losing its collection—especially the Diego Rivera murals—is heartbreaking. I can't just sit by and do nothing while my main source of pride in Detroit is stolen.

  • No Cruel Changes to Food Stamps
Last year, I chose to live on a $30 food budget for a week -- the same amount that millions of Americans rely on through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP or food stamps. But a few out-of-touch lawmakers are working to institute stringent work requirements, mandate drug testing, and halt access to people who receive other assistance. The impact of these changes will be more people struggling to survive and more children sinking into a poverty that drags our whole nation down. Join me and tell Members of Congress: abandon cruel changes to food stamps until you've lived on $30 a week. Choose love instead of judgment.

  • Veterans Rights For Space A Flights Los Derechos de los Veteranos a Vuelos con Espacio A
Being a service connected disable veteran I should be afforded the same rights as retired veterans for military flights. As well as the active duty members and their dependents. There are many disabled veterans that deserve this benefit as well. Como veterano con incapacidad relacionada con el servicio debería tener los mismos derechos a vuelos militares que los veteranos retirados. Lo mismo que los miembros en servicio activo y sus dependientes. Hay muchos veteranos incapacitados que también merecen este beneficio.

  • Term Limits for U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate
Not allowing individuals to remain in office for an eternity is an important step we need to take to restore confidence in both Congress and the Senate. Term Limits have been introduced in the House but never received the two-thirds vote it needs to pass. In order to move towards restoring America, we need to have fresh faces to help bring new ideas to Capital Hill. Therefore by introducing term limits, this will limit the "career politicians" that are currently stagnant in Washington, DC. It takes courage to make change happen; By signing this petition, it will be a good start! I will be meeting with Congressmen/Women this upcoming Friday when I visit the House Chambers to talk about term limits. Please help me achieve the 50 signatures needed in order to get the ball rolling on term limits. Lets make it happen!
