On March 21, 2010, your congressional body, the US House of Representatives, passed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, and two days later, President Obama signed it into law. It is a fact that the ACA is the law of the land. However, the House of Representatives has attempted to repeal the law almost 40 times since its passage, but has yet to create legislation to put Americans back to work.

Just as food labels list fat, sodium and sugar, labels should tell the buyer whether or not the product includes genetically engineered ingredients. Anything less is misleading and leaves consumers in the dark about the food they're eating. GE foods are unlabeled, untested and potentially unsafe, yet most people don't even know they are eating them. Sign the petition to tell Florida's lawmakers to support the labeling of genetically engineered foods.

Right-wing legislators in North Carolina have outdone themselves again. They’ve passed bills to restrict women’s health care rights, cut benefits drastically for unemployed workers and reject expanding health care for low-income families. Now, they’re taking advantage of the Supreme Court’s ruling that gutted the Voting Rights Act and are trying to ram through the most restrictive voter suppression bill in the United States—HB 589. This bill would devastate voter rights for North Carolinians. It would shorten early voting periods, impose restrictive voter ID requirements, eliminate same-day voter registration, purge voter rolls more often and prevent counties from extending poll hours in the case of long lines. But it doesn’t stop there. It also would raise political contribution limits, reduce the amount of information donors from out of state are required to provide and make it easier for voter suppression groups, like True the Vote, to intimidate and challenge voters at the polls. This bill would be a disaster for North Carolina. Tell your lawmakers to oppose it.

The Washington Post says that right now, Larry Summers is the front-runner for chair of the Federal Reserve, one of the most powerful economic policymaking positions in the country. But as noted progressive economist Dean Baker says, "Picking Larry Summers for Fed chair would be exactly the wrong message to send at the moment. Summers is one of the main architects of the policies that have given us the worst downturn since the Great Depression. Right now, while some school districts in wealthy areas are giving computers to students, financially stressed ones are getting cut back millions, barely able to keep instructors, and needy courses. We demand a resurrection of this situation. The districts most needy of the money are also the ones where families are the most financially stressed, and can't afford the basics, much less computers, for their children, thus making it much harder for them to get ahead in life, alos becoming notable tax PAYERS, as opposed tolikely tax burdens.

The residents of North Carolina have a right to know what they are putting into their bodies. There is no evidence to show that genetically modified food is safe for humans to consume--in fact, other countries have banned genetically engineered food. North Carolina residents should be able to decide whether or not they want to consume food that has been genetically modified.
