• Common Sense: No Smoking in Car with Children
You can't smoke tobacco inside of a public place in Illinois to protect others from second hand smoke, so why are you allowed to smoke tobacco in a vehicle with children? I witnessed a mother with 4 young children smoking cigarettes in her car with all of the windows rolled up and the A/C on. If it is illegal to smoke virtually anywhere else in IL, why must children be forced to breathe in second hand smoke from their parents in a car? I am a smoker, and I would never have and would never even consider doing that to my 2 little girls. This is just wrong, and offenders should be fined for subjecting their kids to this.

  • Parents, wake up and demand tech in our classrooms.
Most teachers in k-6 dont know how to teach with tech. this is appalling in 2013. Most schools have SmartBoards and some desctops or laptops, which are way outdated by the way, but teachers dont use them and some have admitted to me that they dont even know how to turn them on. learning today for k up is on tablets and smartphones with touch screens. we are far behind in implimenting tech in our classrooms. only parents can change things and our board of education is as outdated as our equipment.

  • Secretary Clinton: The nation needs you to pressure Gov. Cuomo to fight for public financing of e...
Former Secretary of State and Unites States Senator Hillary Clinton, who represented the people of New York state, is a front-runner for the Democratic nomination for president in 2016. Though she's yet to announce her candidacy, if Mrs. Clinton ran, she'd be the clear favorite. Another likely candidate is New York's Governor Andrew Cuomo, who served as Attorney General during Secretary Clinton’s time in the Senate and as cabinet member in President Bill Clinton's administration. Governor Cuomo has shown he can make things happen when he wants to, but he’s not exercising his legendary influence right now for fair elections. The governor is arguably the most powerful man in the state of New York - certainly in the New York Democratic Party. Though the governor is on record in support of a fair elections bill, this handful of obstructionist Democratic Senators couldn't possibly block this legislation if Governor Cuomo made it a true priority. The governor needs to hear from someone who's represented New York before, who's been a vocal proponent of public financing, and who can give him a run for his money in 2016. We need Hillary Clinton to make a statement now!

Former Secretary of State and U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton, who ably represented the people of New York, is on the record in support of fair elections. New York needs her now as much as ever! Secretary Clinton, we call on you to use the powerful influence of your advocacy for fairness in elections to get the New York Senate to do the right thing for all New Yorkers. Governor Cuomo has shown he can make things happen when he wants to, but he’s not exercising his legendary influence right now for fair elections. The Governor is arguably the most powerful man in the state of New York, certainly in the New York Democratic Party. This handful of Senators couldn't possibly block this legislation if Gov. • Tell Nevada Gov. Sandoval “Don't veto universal background checks.”
The Nevada legislature, in the face of inaction from Washington and at the urging a huge majority of Nevada voters, has passed a law that would require universal background checks for all gun sales in Nevada. Governor Sandoval has threatened to veto the bill, despite the widespread bi-partisan support for universal background checks from voters and even within the NRA’s membership. Nevada's lax gun laws are responsible for thousands of illegal guns flooding the streets in neighboring California. Vetoing this legislation would be a tragedy for all Nevadans, putting them at significantly greater risk of suffering gun violence.

  • Osaka Governor's Visit to CA Governor Brown - Call on Osaka Governor's stance on "Comfort Women"
Japan's Osaka Prefecture Governor, Ichiro Matsui, is planning to meet with California Governor Jerry Brown in mid June 2013. Matsui is known to be a close ally of Osaka City Mayor, Toru Hashimoto, who has publically denied that WWII Japanese military forced women and girls in Korea and other Asian countries to be sexual slaves. It is important for Governor Brown to call on Matsui to clarify his stance on this issue to demonstrate that California will not stand by anyone who violates human rights.

  • Stop the Commercials in Movie Theaters
Why is it that the price of a movie ticket continues to rise while the quality of the the theater experience is losing its value? What happened to showing newsreels, cartoons or short films before the feature presentation? When did it become acceptable to pay $12.50 for a movie and then have to watch Coke, Verizon, and Progressive bombard us with their corporate Message. How did this happen? When and why did this become commonplace? Either lower the price of the movie ticket for the American public and make the advertisers subsidize the difference or prohibit advertising altogether. Those of us who pay for a premium movie channel at home are not subjected to commercials so then why should we, the movie goers, have to sit there and watch tons of commercials instead of getting what we paid for - pure entertainment.

  • FDA Should be held accountable for Death/Disease from approved Drugs
More than 100,000 people each year are killed or sustain serious and damaging reactions to drugs that should never have made it to the market. The FDA approves these drugs and asks no questions of the drug companies' supposed studies. This is a form of genocide. If a car or a product did this much damage, there would be serious litigation. If the FDA approves a drug and it kills, maims, or creates a new more serious condition, the FDA should be held responsible!

  • Student Loan Rates
Aloha My name is Destiny and I am currently a college student at University of Hawaii, Maui College. I have a loan that I took out when I was 17 years old that I need to pay back and I do not want the rates to be raised. Living in Hawaii, renting my own place and going to college is already difficult enough without the raise of rates. Please start a petition for your school or sign mine. Be the change that you want the world to see.
