Couples heartbroken over infertility and other issues that frequently result in adoption as an option are often disappointed by failed adoptions, particularly international adoptions. What happens when one adopts a child that has a mental illness and other issues that present a clear and present danger to those living in the immediate environment? Who do these parents call for help? Currently no one is truly designated as an assistant, as involvement isn't usually called unless the child is in danger.

On April 19th, a group of students entered the Dartmouth Dimensions show for prospective students in order to protest against sexual violence and prejudice at the school. They subsequently received threats of violence from other students, in response to which the administration canceled classes. Students and alumni have called for the protesters to be punished, but the problems that gave rise to the protest remain unaddressed. They need our support. Fracking is the use of high-volume, hydraulic fracturing of the earth to release natural gas for use in energy. Horror stories from other states about open pits of toxic wastewater, secret brews of toxins injected into the earth, air emissions sickening neighbors, and contaminated drinking water are just a few of the impacts seen elsewhere. The prospect of the gas industry coming Illinois to extract gas from beneath our state using high-volume hydraulic fracturing has caused a great deal of controversy and concern, especially in parts of Illinois where leasing for drilling rights has been underway for well over a year.

NYS Bill S 738, which has been reintroduced in the Senate this legislative session, "allows board of education to provide transportation to school for a child living a lesser distance than two miles from school if the parent or guardian of the child has a physically limiting impairment and is unable to accompany the child to and from school." We must ensure the safety of all children.

Mike Rogers, the 8th district congressman from Michigan wants to keep Guantanamo open. President Obama has said that it is congress which is blocking his ability to close the prison down. We say to Mike Rogers that as his constituents we want Guantanamo shut down immediately.

The New Hampshire House recently passed HCR 2—asking Congress for a constitutional amendment that clarifies that corporations are not people. The Senate has not yet taken up the resolution. In fact, a prohibitive two-thirds vote is being required just for the Senate to consider this resolution—even though it has already passed the House. We should urge the Senate to act on this resolution!

According to Dr. James E. Hansen, former head of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies and its most famous climate scientist, a bi-lateral carbon tax is our last best hope to stop the irreversible effects of global warming. The carbon tax would steer consumers and businesses toward products and energy sources having low carbon foot prints such as wind and solar power, locally grown food, electric vehicles and 4g nuclear power solutions which would replace aging backbone coal fired plants. Market forces and new technologies would determine future product winners and losers over the transitional period of ten years as the carbon tax increases at a predictable rate. If the US and China implement a unified carbon tax the rest of the world will follow or pay import duties to the world's two largest economies. Consumers can use the Carbon Dividend to offset the higher price of energy.

CPS has implemented a policy this year that allows for 36 kids in a classroom. The mass school closings that they are proposing will lead to overcrowding and high class sizes for thousands of Chicago students. Say no to 36.
