  • Amherst Town Board (Amherst, New York)
We're petitioning Amherst's Town Board to support WNY's food trucks, as they face onerous proposed regulations that would stop them from doing business in Amherst, New York. Public support of the trucks will help the Board make the right decision - to allow them to serve our community, just as they have successfully operated in Buffalo.

  • Keep Monsanto Out of Whole Foods
the Monsanto Corporation is using its financial tools to force Whole Foods to buy its products. Many of us depend on stores such as Whole Foods for organic and otherwise safe foods without preservatives or additives. It's time to take a stand against this powerful organization and get it out of our grocery stores!

  • Senate Democrats: Stop choosing the NRA over the lives of children
Almost six years ago, my daughter Emily was in French class at Virginia Tech when a gunman opened fire, killing her teacher and 11 of her friends and classmates. Emily was shot twice in the back of the head, but survived. Last December, after a gunman shot and killed 26 children and faculty members at Sandy Hook Elementary School, politician after politician promised this time would be different and we'd actually pass meaningful legislation to help stop these senseless acts. But now all that's in danger of slipping away--because a group of Senate Democrats are possibly wavering in support of common sense measures like universal background checks and a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. Enough! How many more mothers must suffer what I went through and the paralyzing grief the mothers in Newtown and across our country continue to suffer every day?

  • Immigration reform must create a pathway to citizenship for women
As you read this, eight senators--all men--are writing an immigration reform bill. That's good--we need a bill introduced immediately. But we need to make sure it is fair to women and includes the millions of immigrant women and children in this country. Email the “Gang of Eight” senators today and tell them that even if no women participated in drafting it, the bill they introduce must do right by women. It’s a simple message: immigration reform MUST create a pathway to citizenship and MUST treat women fairly. Here are some of the ways a new immigration reform bill could make things worse for women and families: Tying a path to citizenship to proof of work, leaving out stay-at-home moms or women who perform domestic work in the paperless economy. Failing to provide safe ways for victims of domestic or workplace abuse to report these crimes. Increasing work visas, which overwhelmingly go to men, while providing fewer family visas, which overwhelmingly go to women. Leaving the backlog of 4.3 million family members, mostly women and children, waiting for decades to be reunited with those currently in the United States and closing off certain types of family immigration altogether. The Gang of Eight legislation will set the conversation moving forward. Unless we make our voices heard, this bill could include provisions that bias the law against women and children. Email the “Gang of Eight” senators today. Then tell your friends to join you.

  • Listen To The People: Support Reasonable Gun Legislation
The pace of gun violence that continues in the U.S. is tragic and disgraceful. The dead, wounded, and grieving deserve action, not political posturing. Universal background checks and regulating the size of gun magazines are reasonable, constitutional measures that a large majority of voters support.

  • Marco Rubio: Stop Playing Politics with Immigration Reform
Recently, TIME Magazine called Marco Rubio “The Republican Savior” and said that he is “the key player in his party’s efforts to make up to Hispanic voters.” But instead of using his newfound political power to pass immigration reform, Rubio is imitating anti-immigrant members of Congress like Jeff Sessions, and is slow-walking the process in order to use the spotlight for his own political ambitions. Last weekend, Rubio wrote a letter asking the Chairman of the Judiciary Committee to slow down immigration reform--a move that could end up killing the process altogether. If Senator Rubio is the Republicans’ last hope with immigrant voters, then he needs to do more than play political games with our future. Tell Senator Rubio that we are onto him. We need a leader who's willing to put our community ahead of his own political agenda.

  • Nebraskans Join Arkansans in Petitioning for Tarsands Pipelines to Avoid Freshwater
After another tarsands spill, Arkansas is taking action by asking Exxon to move their pipeline from their water supply. Nebraska stands with Arkansas and asks President Obama to deny Keystone XL so we do not have to plead with TransCanada to do the basics of protecting our water. "The jobs will soon disappear, the energy independence will be on a ship to some unknown destination, but the scar on America's landscape and the risks to our water will be with us forever." -Randy Thompson, landowner

  • Michigan State Senate: Don't let "morals" get in the way of patient care
Every citizen of Michigan deserves the right to medical care. They shouldn’t have to wonder if a doctor will provide the services they need — especially in an emergency. They should have the right to know if an insurer or provider will have moral or religious objections to any services they may need. Not having that information takes away a patient’s ability to give informed consent, which they must do before treatment is administered. Under Senate Bill 136 - "Religious Liberty & Conscience Protection Act" virtually anyone in the business of healthcare - including hospitals, private practices, universities and even pharmacies that provide healthcare services - could refuse to perform services based on a religious or moral objection. • Tell Jan Brewer: Protect Students Rights!
A bill is about to hit Governor Jan Brewer's desk that would ban state universities from collecting student fees and transferring money to non-university recognized organizations like the Arizona Students Association (ASA). It's a blatant attack on students and their right to affiliate with organizations like ASA and other student associations like the US Student Association. She could sign the bill in the next few days but we're going to tell her that we care about the right for students to organize and build strong student associations. Tell Governor Brewer to veto this bill!
