  • Letter of Support - SENATE BILL 320 (BEALL) TIME SENSITIVE
My dear friend Elizabeth Espat suffered a brain injury (aneurism) in October 2012, and has been through incredible physical trauma in the past five months: multiple surgeries (coil insertion, decompressive hemicraniectomy, tracheotomy), seizures, strokes, and a medically induced coma. She is currently in a persistent vegetative state at a local Skilled Nursing Facility, where she is awaiting clearance for surgery. The surgery is a required step which would allow her to progress to the next stage of recovery. With every day that goes by, her SNF benefits diminish due to limitations of her health insurance PPO. Her brain and body need ample time to repair, reconnect, and heal so that she can begin rehabilitation. SB 320 will enable uniform and non-discriminatory access to treatment for acquired brain injury across an established continuum of licensed treatment settings specifically designed to provide the most clinically effective and cost efficient specialized treatment for acquired brain injury and to ensure that acquired brain injury as a catastrophic health condition is treated on par with other major medical conditions which have no time limitations. Thank you - Kris Homsher

  • Do not allow Central Expressway (US 75) to be named after George W. Bush.
State Representative Dan Branch has introduced House Bill 3520 which would rename 7 miles of US 75, or Central Expressway, in honor of George W Bush. Central is the main artery from downtown to the suburbs, named after the former railroad line that ran between downtown and historic Deep Ellum. To rename this historic stretch of road after a president who has done little if anything significant for this city ignores our local history and compromises our integrity. W may live here now, but he does not represent our fair city. Sign this petition to preserve our cultural history and keep Central Expressway as is.

  • Congress: Stop The Public Safety Risk In Our National Parks
My husband is a police officer for the U.S. Park police and he along with 700 police officers nationwide are about to be furloughed for 14 days without pay. Not only will all the families be affected by these furloughs, but according to the Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar, national parks across the country will have slower response times to criminal activities and minimal police presence. Visitors in our national parks throughout the country should be top priority when it comes to public safety, and these furloughs should be stopped.

  • Server Wages
Indiana Server minimum wage is only $2.13 an hour and has not changes on over a decade while regular minimum wage has risen many times. Although servers get tips that help to cover the balance, with the economy the way it is, many servers cannot meet today's financial demands. We must help our Indiana servers to be able to support themselves.

  • Governor Cuomo: Raise the Minimum Wage!
New York’s minimum wage is just $7.25 an hour. For full time work, that adds up to just $15,000 a year. It's the bare federal minimum. The same as the minimum wage in Idaho and Kansas. It's hard to imagine anyone surviving on $15,000 for full time work, whether you're in in Brookhaven or Buffalo. New York City has the highest cost of living in America. But hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers do it every day. And with rising prices, that $15,000 buys less and less every year. Nobody who works full time should be forced to live in poverty. As corporate profits and CEO pay soar, workers should get paid a decent wage too. President Obama used his State of the Union address to call on Congress to raise the federal minimum wage to $9 an hour and tie it to inflation. New Yorkers can't afford to wait for John Boehner and the House Republicans to get out of the way to raise the minimum wage. Thankfully, we don't have to. New York can raise the minimum wage on it's own, to at least $9 an hour and tie the new rate to inflation, so workers won't continue to fall behind as prices go up. Governor Cuomo should lead, and push Albany to raise the minimum wage.

  • Ask Senator Ayotte to Support Universal Background Checks
New Hampshire ranks among the states with the weakest gun violence prevention laws in the country. But the majority of Granite State residents support commonsense gun safety laws to keep dangerous firearms out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill. 9 in 10 New Hampshire residents support closing the "gun show loophole" by requiring background checks for all firearm sales—including private sales and transfers. But rather than standing with her constituents, Senator Kelly Ayotte is siding with tea-party radicals and the extreme NRA gun rights lobby by rejecting legislation in Congress to require universal background checks. Please sign our petition - and let Senator Ayotte know that you stand with mainstream New Hampshire citizens in supporting universal background checks and other commonsense solutions to prevent gun violence in our communities.

  • Tell Deval Patrick: Raise the minimum wage
In a high cost of living state like Massachusetts, no one can make ends meet, never mind support a family, on just $8 an hour. It's a poverty wage, and it's a shame. President Obama called for raising the minimum wage in his State of the Union address. But it'll never pass through Congress because of Republican opposition. In Massachusetts, we don't have that problem. We have large Democratic majorities in the legislature, and if we can't pass an increase in the minimum wage, we should be ashamed. Putting money into the pockets of the workers who need it most would lift working families out of poverty and boost the economy too. Gov. Patrick, with your leadership we can raise the minimum wage.
