Rep Meng, vote against any and every cut to Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security benefitsThe safety net is crucial for the future of the american democracy. There cannot be a democracy where the poor the frail, the elderly are constantly at risk of losing everything to disease, old age, unemployment and lack of education, nor can there be freedom.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by filippo cavalieri

Governor McCrory, Pick Up Your Phone!Governor Pat McCrory doesn't want to hear from you. At least that's what he's showing to North Carolina residents. The main switchboard phone line to the Governor's office is (919) 733-5811. This line theoretically is for constituents to call about issues that impact them. The problem is that the line doesn't accept voicemails after 6:00 nor does it direct to another constituent services line. Governor McCrory needs to make his office accessible to all North Carolinians. Having a functional phone line for constituents to call will be a huge step in the right direction.244 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Catherine Medlock-Walton

Progressive Lawmakers Warn Obama They Won’t Back Entitlement CutsIn advance of any upcoming budget deal, progressive groups have begun pushing House Democrats to sign a letter to President Obama indicating that they will not back anything that cuts entitlement benefits. As of Wednesday, the letter, originally written by progressive Reps. Alan Grayson (D-FL) and Mark Takano (D-CA), had 10 additional signers. The coalition pushing the letter, including the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, MoveOn.org and Credo Action, announced it also added two unions, the National Nurses Union and the United Electrical, Radio, and Machine Workers of America, to the list. The groups said 110,000 supporters had also signed the letter within 24 hours of it being put online and supporters have placed more than 4,000 calls to members of Congress. The 10 additional House members who have signed the letter are Keith Ellison (D-MN), Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), Maxine Waters (D-CA), Rick Nolan (D-MN), Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) Jim McGovern (D-MA) Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), Nydia Velazquez (D-NY), Barbara Lee (D-CA) and Jose Serrano (D-NY).1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Darnisha Hunter

Fair Redistricting for Nassau County, NY, NOW!The proposed Republican map splits up communities, diluting their voting power. It carves out absurdly-shaped, gerrymandered districts for political gain, at the expense of minority voters and long-standing communities. It creates districts that have few interests in common, such as Elmont with Inwood and Bethpage with Garden City. It decimates many tight-knit communities by splitting them into as many as five different districts, such as Rockville Centre, the Five Towns, Manhasset, New Hyde Park, Garden City, Roslyn, East Meadow, Hicksville, Merrick, and Westbury. Hundreds of residents have made it abundantly clear by their statements at public meetings that they oppose this map, which unnecessarily moves nearly 350,000 voters to other districts! We urge our legislators to vote NO on the proposed map. The people of Nassau County want a FAIR map that maintains communities of interest; we deserve no less!2,319 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Elizabeth Oldendorp

Congressman Steve Cohen: Stand Up Against Republican Efforts to Cut the Social Safety NetMy 28 year old son has been on disability for 10 years. He has a working wife and a six year old daughter. Without Social Security disability and Medicaid, he would have to live with his wife's family. I have been on disability since 2008. I am 62 years old. I too rely on disability plus Medicare. Cutting these essential programs will cause many people in our country to become homeless. Why did I work for 33 years only to have the promise of Social Security yanked away? Why did all of us believe in the system? These are essential social programs that should be strengthened, not reduced. Keep the social programs in place as they exist today at least and as promised.1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Lorinda Stanford Haynes
