Injurious PELL Grant cuts in 2012This petition is regarding the PELL Grant eligibility drop, from 16 semesters to 12, in the 2012 Transportation Bill. Damaged students include all those to which all of the following criteria apply: Low income, returning/non-traditional, attending a 4 year STEM program at an accredited state university full-time, and were attending full-time when the bill went into effect. Without congressional reconsideration and an amendment clause, many may never finish their degree; leaving thousands of people with education debt they will never be able to pay off. I have personally been financially and emotionally burdened by this cut, to the extent that the stress has now begun to affect my health. I am not alone in this. There are thousands of similarly affected adult students across America; all debating whether to take out high interest loans to cover tuition for the next 2 years, or to just quit half way through and cut their losses. I beg you to sign this petition to add an amendment clause to the bill, excluding this injured minority of students.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Kathy Moore

No benefits cuts to Medicare, medicaid, or social security. As a retired senior and social security recipient, I do not support any benefit cuts or increase the age requirement to these programs. The deficit reduction savings can be achieved by negotiating with drugs companies to reduce cost and until all corporations tax loopholes and off shore tax havens are eliminated! Seniors, the middle class and the poor did not cause the debt problem. We the people had to bail out wall street and the banks. Now these same anti government republicans are trying to eliminate what we the people have paid for. If the " job creaters" were so much better than we the people, why did our we the people have to save them?15 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Priscilla davis

Keep North Carolina Film IncentivesNorth Carolina is enjoying unprecedented growth in feature film, television series and commercial productions as a direct result of our balanced, sustainable Film Incentive Program. With annual in-state spend approaching $500M in 2013, North Carolina was home to Iron Man, The Hunger Games and hosts ongoing series like Banshee and Homeland. While our 25% incentive attracts Hollywood productions looking to save money through tax-rebates, the vast majority of the money spent in-state is driven to "below-the-line" tradespeople like carpenters, production assistants, electricians, grips, make-up artists, catering and craft services freelance employees. Local hotels, restaurants, retail stores and industries that support the filmed-entertainment industry reap millions of dollars from visiting productions due to the Film Incentive Program. In the long-term, NC needs new tax legislation / tax reform to lure long-term investment from companies looking for a new, permanent home. However, the NC Film Incentive Program should not be altered or dismantled, as doing so will simply drive productions to other states (LA, GA, OH, NY, NM among others), who have chosen to maintain their Film Incentive Programs as freestanding legislation that is unencumbered by reforms and designed to deliver rapid growth. Open Access to School Board Meetings SB134 & HB127Currently school boards are able to decide when to hold their meetings, even if the meetings are held at time when the population most impacted by their decisions is not able to participate. High School students participating in a Democracy in Action Initiative crafted a idea that school boards in the state should be required to hold meetings at a time when students, parents and employees can attend, after school hours. Senator Jeremy Ring and Representative Richard Stark recognizing that the students were on to something agreed to propose the legislation in the State Legislature.1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Adam Cohen

Rep. Davis stand up against Republican efforts to cut the social safety net.My father is 80 and he always is struggling with high medicine cost. He believed that all the work he did in life would afford him a safety net. I am appalled for all the disrespect the elderly is receiving. Rep Davis you have stood for great issues impacting people in our community. This cause has one of the greatest reasons to be supported-helping our fathers and mothers after they retire.1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by tony smith

Tell the CA Legislature: "End Tax Exempt Status for Anti-Gay Boy Scouts of America"Please join me in asking the California Legislature to pass SB 323, ending tax breaks for youth groups like Boy Scouts of America that discriminate against members based on their sexual orientation. I grew up in the Boy Scout tradition. I started out as a Cub Scout, transitioned through Webelos, and ended my Boy Scout journey as a Life Scout, one rank below Eagle. My closest friends were other scouts. Scouting stands for the finest qualities of humanity: self-reliance, creativity, and an appreciation of nature. Most of all, we were taught how to act as responsible, respectful citizens. This is why the Boy Scouts’ continued policy of excluding members based on their sexual orientation is so upsetting to me. It flies in the face of the very values that the scouting tradition professes to teach. As a straight ally, I can't sit idle while the current leaders of the Boy Scouts disgrace this once-proud American institution with their personal bigotry. Boy Scouts of America needs to do the right thing and change their policy to allow openly gay members. Right now, SB 323, sponsored by Sen. Ricardo Lara (D-Los Angeles) aims to give the Boy Scouts a nudge in the right direction by eliminating tax exemptions for groups that practice discrimination. Please ask the California Legislature to help pass SB 323. California should lead on this issue if Congress won’t. Ending this tax break is the right thing to do, for the Boy Scouts and any other youth group in California which discriminates against members based on sexual orientation.10,563 of 15,000 SignaturesCreated by Eddie Kurtz
