There are probably many wealthy Americans who don't need their Social Security benefits to supplement their income. Maybe we should ask them to forfeit at least some if not all of their benefits to help the economy. For those who need them or is their only source of income, nothing should be taken away. If anything some of the money saved by those forfeiting should go to increase the benefits for those below the poverty level to a level that will help them improve their situations. I have a neighbor who only receives about $800 a month in SS benefits only because she was a housewife and mother most of her life and didn't have much of an employment history. She suffers monthly trying to figure out how she's going to survive and is not even eligible for food stamps because a portion of her income comes from the state supplement to her SS. Let's level the playing field and help those who really need it.

we put into ss for our later years & you just give it to anyone ,even thro they haven't work a day in there life. This is NOT WELFARE & they shouldn't get any of it. There are so many getting it that there's no one left to put into it. GET AMERICA WORKING NOT SITTING ON THE SYSTEM. It's easy donig nothing & get a check every month.

BY CUTTING SOCIAL SECURITY PAYMENTS TO THOSE WHOSE INCOME IS OVER $200,000.... WE COULD PROBABLY SAVE SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE FOR THOSE WHO REALLY NEED THIS INCOME FOR BASIC SURVIVAL ! YES, CUT SOCIAL SECURITY TO THOSE WHOSE INCOME IS OVER $200,000....NOW !

Social Security is backed by civil promises and our civil rights. This is our money which, because of our trust in our government, we allow that governent to manage. We count on President Obama to protect our money and not let Congress to rob us and makethe rich ever more powerful.

I have family members who are dependent on their social security checks. I am nearing the time when I too will be dependent on it. With rising costs for food, clothing, shelter and gasoline we can't afford to have this right cut.

It is pathetic that ANY cuts to Social Security have been proposed. The dollars earned in Social Security have been EARNED--you can call it an entitlement, but I won't. NO CUTS TO SOCIAL SECURITY!

Please do not let the president take away from the needy seniors. Please stop the wealthy from making the seniors pay so they can keep their wealth. It is not fair to the retirees who worked to make the wealthy wealthier. It needs to stop. Please protect our seniors and retirees.

There are massive numbers of seniors who live on Social Security; they depend on this for their lives, food, care and everything else. It's not their or our faults this mess the government has gotten itself into. You deregulated the banks; you took from Social Security for your own projects. It's not honorable to make Seniors pay for this, and very few can work now. It's INHUMANE to do this to your country's elderly that worked honorably and trusted you with their money.

We've all been paying our own money into Social Security our whole lives. Why should that money be used as a bargaining chip? No one has the right to do such a thing!

Social Security benefits including cost of living adjustments are necessary for the health and welfare of Americans.

The fiscal cliff which resulted in saving Wall Street bankers should not now penalize Main Street and retirees under the guise of compromise. Extending retirement age whilst ensuring the banks can continue business as usual is an insult to humanity. Do not allow the money we've all contributed all our lives to be affected by a "compromise" to a mess the Government itself created.
