• Preserve the NJ Religious Exemption
The NJ Religious Exemption to Vaccination is in danger. Currently, parents can opt their children out of vaccines due to religion without being forced to reveal private information such as their religious affiliation. A new bill S1759, sponsored by Senators Loretta Weinberg and Joseph Vitale, is highly intrusive, expensive, and appears unconstitutional. If S1759 is signed into law, it will require parents seeking a religious exemption to: * specify their exact religious tenets in notarized, signed, and sworn format * include an explanation of the nature of the religious tenet or practice that is implicated by the "vaccination" * explain how administration of "the vaccine" would violate, contradict, or otherwise be inconsistent with that tenet or practice * affirm that the religious tenet is consistently held * obtain a signed statement from a physician or advanced practice nurse licensed in New Jersey proving that parents received vaccine counseling, thus requiring medical advice for a decision that should be made on religious grounds. This bill is redundant and wasteful. Doctors are already required to discuss the risks and benefits of vaccination with parents. The religious exemption to mandatory vaccination is a cherished religious and parental right. Please oppose S1759 by signing this petition.

  • Make the candidates answer these questions
The gap between the richest Americans and the other 99% is wider than at any time in the past 40 years. Sign below and show your agreement that the following questions should be asked during the presidential debates. (1) What do you think has caused the widening gap? (2) Do you see the gap as a negative thing? (3) If so, what would you do narrow the gap? (4) Why do you think your solution would work?

  • No budget deal? No salaries for senators or representatives.
I find it extremely troubling that key government programs we depend on (ranging from Medicare to defense to homeland security) will be eviscerated if our Representatives and Senators can’t come to terms on a budget solution. As currently structured, these automatic budget cuts would have a devastating impact on many parts of the economy and put our vulnerable citizens and our nation’s security at-risk. Seriously...devastating in a way that few people realize. But rest assured, while children may go hungry, elderly patients may be turned away by doctors, and our nation’s security is threatened, lawmakers were careful to shield their own salaries from any cuts, should they fail to reach a compromise. They can completely fail at the very job we are paying them to do, drive our country over a cliff and still keep 100% of their taxpayer-funded pay (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/15/us/politics/white-house-report-details-effects-of-automatic-budget-cuts.html?hp). Outrageous. Any lawmaker who is unwilling to negotiate in good faith and make bipartisan compromises to produce a responsible, reasonable and timely budget (and keep us from going over the cliff), needs to be sent home. At least they should have the decency to refuse their pay until they solve this significant problem. Country before party.

  • Congress must act
Congress is in for 2 weeks before the election break. Congress should know that if they don't act on the American Jobs Act, we will vote against them.

  • Mitt Romney and the GOP: It's time to dump "birther" Kris Kobach
Kris Kobach is Mitt Romney's immigration advisor and Kansas’ Secretary of State. He is the author of the Arizona and Alabama anti-immigrant "show me your papers" laws -- as we just found outhe and fellow “birthers” are considering removing President Barack Obama from the Kansas ballot this November because they are doubting the validity of his birth certificate. Even more outrageous than attempting to take the sitting president off the ballot, Mitt Romney and the Republican Party keep giving Kris Kobach an influential seat at the table as a top immigration advisor. It's time that Mitt Romney and the Republican Party cut ties with Kris Kobach and his ilk once and for all..

  • Over turn day time truancy law, you are the parent!
Waukegan has a Daytime truancy law that states no child is allowed in public during school hours, unless they are with a parent or school official. You may not give your child permission to be out in public for any reason without you, and according to Public schools you also do not have the right to take them out of school unless the are sick or there is a religious holiday, effectively taking your rights as a parent away and denying children their 1st amendment rights.

  • No more lies in political ads
I am concerned about lies in poltical ads. Lies about how well the economy is doing, in comparison to when Obama took office.

  • Climate change at the debates: Our future matters
The youngest generation cannot vote, but they are standing up for their futures and need to know that our candidates will reduce our use of fossil fuels. All candidates need to address the climate crisis for the sake of our children.

  • Make United States and State Legislators equal with their constituents
I would like to see our legislators on the same page as the people they represent especially in the areas of health care and retirement. I signed a petition similar to this one a year or so ago. what happened to it? This is something that all Americans can agree on. It's ridiculous that our legislators in MI get their full salaries for for retirement for serving in the MI house or senate. Legislators would not be so anxious to cut SS or cut health benefits if it effected them personally.

  • DON SIEGELMAN: INTERNATIONAL APPEAL FOR JUSTICE
This Petition is about JUSTICE and FREEDOM in the United States, a nation beset by fascistic power-grabbing cabals involving violators of law, the US Constitution and international conventions on human rights, such as Bush eminence grise Karl Rove, Governor Tom Corbett of Pennsylvania, Judge Dale Wells of California, and Judges Kline and Tylwalk of Pennsylvania. The international community should insist that President Obama pardon Don Siegelman immediately, and appoint a FIST Prosecutor for any States in which the people request an emergency bypass around the atherosclerotic heart of Government, the US Justice Department.

  • Kansas Objections Board: Obama should be on ballot
I am a life-long Kansan and I feel our state officials that sit on the Kansas Objections Board are embarrassing our state by not rejecting out of hand the notion that Barack Obama is not a citizen. They are considering removal of his name from the ballot and meet again this Monday, September 17th, to consider the matter further. I want the board to reject the challenge brought to them that President Obama does not have the right to be on our state's ballot this November.

  • Saving Social Security and Medicare
Petition Congress to have their benefits converted to the Social Security/Medicare system. By their participation, all legislation regarding Social Security and Medicare would effect them directly. By merging their benefits, additional revenue would be gained into the much needed Social Security Fund. As a senior on a fixed income, I have paid into the system my whole life. I fear now that the money I invested is at risk and at the mercy of those who are not directly effected by their decisions. Cuts in benefits will greatly hurt the elderly and handicapped, the most vulnerable people in our society. Make Congress accountable.
