Wyomissing Area teachers are starting their second year without a contract and have had their salaries frozen for many months. In spite of this the Wyomissing Area Jr.-Senior High School was ranked the fifth best high school in Pennsylvania by U.S. News and World Report and all buildings have received numerous other accolades. They deserve to be treated fairly and with respect by the school board.

Since the Citizens United ruling by the supreme court, super-pacs and wealthy individuals have the ability to pour large sums of money into political advertising. Many ads contain lies and distortions that can wrongly influence elections. An example is the TV ad featuring a Canadian woman who came to the United States for medical treatment because she thought it would take too long in the Canadian system. She tells us she would have died if she hadn't received the prompt treatment given to her here. In fact, it was reported that instead of a life-threatening tumor, she was diagnosed with a benign, non-life threatening cyst. The purpose of this ad was to cast Obamacare in an unfavorable light by suggesting it is like the Canadian health care system. The truth is that the woman would have received timely, appropriate care in Canada, and there is no comparison between Obamacare and Canada care. Join me in calling for TV networks to do a better job of screening these political ads for the truth, and rejecting those that fail the test. Also, join me in calling out participants in these ads to back up their claims with facts, such as medical records.

The new voter registration legislation designed to "eliminate voter fraud" is a sham. Low income and elderly citizens who typically vote democrat are being excluded from the polls thanks to this discriminatory legislation. We must not let this happen.

Grover Norquist, a man never elected by any constituancy, is controlling the Republican majority in the House of Representatives and a large portion of the US Senate. Where does he get his funding?

The citizens of Detroit are requesting that the Detroit City Council and mayor not lease Belle Isle to the State of Michigan or any other entity. It is a travesty for the citizens to lose complete control over the management and operation of Belle Isle. We believe strongly that the citizens can assemble a strong and effective strategic plan for the both the operation and financial support of the Belle Isle so that it will remain the people's jewel and a leisure time location for all.

Bring back vocational programs into high schools. Help create apprenticeships that coordinate with trade unions to bring industry back to America.

When my daughter was 6 years old she saw an ad on a television commercial for a drug for "restless leg syndrome" and thought she had it from the symptoms they described. She is a normal kid who tossed and turned when she slept like most of us do occassionally. It was not "restless leg syndrome" (if that is even a real condition). They should not be able to put snipets of conditions, and the magic pill to fix it on television commercials. It is brainwashing everyone to think their is a pill for everything, and that they are possibly sick when they are probably not. That is for a doctor to determine. I am sick of being bombarded with this stuff, and we are becoming a nation of over medicated people. Let the drug companies put stuff on the internet where you have to do a search on a topic, not on public television where we have no control over what topic is popping up in front of our kids during commercials.
