• Pass shovel-ready legislation now.
The best way to ease the misery of millions of American families, and to improve the economy is to enact shovel-ready legislation to fund jobs that are the normal responsibility of government: repairing damaged bridges, roads ,and school buildings. This will have the quickest impact on the economy.

  • Repeal MEGAN's Law
American Justice demands second chances. Persons convicted of sex offenses, who have served their time have a lower recidivism rate than almost any other criminal. We expect those who have served their time to reform and become productive citizens. At the same time, without any evidence in support, lawmakers created an impossible set of rules that server to make it almost impossible for these people to become productive citizens again. The only persons who really should know where former offenders live are law enforcement persons, not the general public. FBI statistics show that a person released for other types of offenses is MORE LIKELY to commit a sex offense than are former sex offenders. These laws punish the entire family of a former offender, often forcing those families to evict their own sons or daughters or lose their homes. Former offenders cannot find suitable homes or jobs. Many become homeless with no address to report. Vigilantes have used registries to harass, fire bomb, vandalize and even murder former offenders. In a few cases innocent persons have been mistaken for someone on registries and murdered. Persons have been branded for life this way because they had sex with their own girlfriends who happened to be under 18 at the time...even for public urination !

  • Credit Checks for Employment
Recently, I was called for a job I interviewed for over the phone. The hiring manager told me that I was just what he wanted and that I would be getting a call soon to fly to Georgia for a face to face interview. What I got was a call from an HR guy asking me to fill out a the forms for a credit check. I was asking why a credit check for an IT job and why before an offer. I did this and the HR guy called back a day or so later and asked me about some stuff on my report. Then he said if I paid these items, they would fly me in for an interview. I was blown away. All these major companies are going bankrupt and are getting bailed out by the government. The average person is struggling in this country with the bad economy and we are now getting turned away from jobs? This company is huge that did this to me. They are TSYS out of Columbus GA.

  • Equal Voice
Ohio specialized license plates offer ProLife (anti-choice) but they do not offer Pro Choice. Why should purchasing license plates for my personal vehicle be limited to slogons and themes of the GOP without equal options for left wing Americans -- and women in our state.

  • Withhold Congress' and Senates pay for not doing their jobs!
We the people elected the Congress and the Senate to do our business. Yet Congress will not address the Presidents plans to put people back to work. Now the Senate Minority leader wants to postpone business until after the election. The last three years we have paid these representatives a large salary plus benefits and we are made to suffer while they play POLITICS. Every 4 years we go to the polls to elect a group of leaders to do our business and I want to hold them accountable for the money we are paying them.

  • PLEASE HELP PROTECT OUR CHILDREN FROM PREDITORS.
Petitioning for tougher and faster punishments for child molesters with clear physical and DNA evidence would deter a lot these criminals. If they know their trials would faster with much stiffer penalties it could save many more children over time for being prayed upon.

  • Stop Outsourcing HCC Jobs
The Portage County Board will be voting on July 17 on whether or not to outsource the housekeeping jobs at the Health Care Center. This will cost 7 jobs that pay living wages and affordable benefits, it may negatively affect the residents at the HCC, the employees, and it will take money out of the local economy. Replacing jobs that pay living wages with affordable benefits with low-paying jobs with few benefits harms the local economy. We are asking the County Board to stop the contracting out of these positions.

  • 12 year term limit for Supreme Court Justices
Having a radical in any Government position is objectionable, but having one who's position is protected for life, or as long as THEY choose, is damaging to the country. If there is not going to be a process for removal of activists judges, at least there should be a 12 year term limit with the option of a review (reconfirmation) for additional periods of four years. America should not be stuck with an activist judge who shows up at political rallies and is invited to dinners by parties in upcoming cases. There needs to be remedies and consequences, and at the lease term limits and review.

  • BofA & Fannie Mae: Give Lilly back the Title to her home!
Lilly Washington returned home from visiting her injured son in a Military Hospital in Germany, to find that despite written confirmation from Bank of America that they would suspend their proceedings until she returned home, the bank illegally sold her home to Fannie Mae in a trustee's sale, who then changed the locks, and sent all of her belongings, including her son’s Purple Heart medal from his service in Iraq, to the city dump. Despite this crushing setback, Lilly refused to give up. She moved back in and won a stay of eviction that granted the right to legally stay in her home as a renter. Now Lilly is fighting to recover ownership of her home and demand justice from Bank of America and Fannie Mae. And she needs your help.

  • Banning Fireworks
It's one of the worst fire seasons Utah is facing. Even though the 4th of July has passed, the Days of 47 are upon us. Thousands of acres burned, houses burned and thousands of people have had to evacuated. How much of our state do we have to watch burn before seeing a "ban" on fireworks. The Governor has currently issued a ban on Utah state lands. This does not go far enough. We should not be using any personal fireworks anywhere in Utah, period. On June 14, Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper issued an executive order that banned the private use of fireworks statewide because of very dry conditions and high fire danger.
