I took fast-food bought lunch to my kindergartener's school for her lunch and was denied to allow her to have it because other children would be jealous! We as parents should be allowed to provide our children any lunch we buy or make.

My name is Meme Edwards. I have worked for General Motors in Michigan for more than two decades, but right now I'm on strike along with tens of thousands of colleagues from 70 facilities in 19 states. Let me tell you why I know General Motors is a special place that can do better. I met my husband working at this plant. We raised our daughters and bought a home in the time we've been here. We have been able to make a stable, middle class living through this work. But General Motors isn't keeping up with the times, and workers are getting left behind. For instance, there's an increased reliance on "permatemps," workers who are not given the benefits of full-time employees even though they work just as hard. Let's be honest here. General Motors made billions of dollars in profits last year. We build the products that made those profits possible. We're just asking for a fair share based on all that General Motors workers do for the company and the American public. GM needs to come to the table in good faith and negotiate an equitable contract. Whether you are a union member, supportive friends and family, or a concerned member of the public, we hope you sign this petition to support hard working American families.

The all too common practice of Sudden schedule changes without adequate notice from employers, being required to work all shifts, varying shifts day to day, holidays and weekends make it nearly impossible for food and retail workers to sustain any sort of healthy work/life balance. Unless they have reliable and retired family close by to help-anyone with children has hard time finding affordable child care for later hours of the day-and especially last minute care. Their children are often unable to participate in extracurricular activities due to inability to commit to regular transportation to and from these activities. Not enough time or notice between shifts causes added physical and mental strain to employees. This causes strain on marriages, and parent/child relationships. These service industry positions are vital to our economy and to busy families. Petition asks simply for the Right to fair scheduling for food and retail workers. Salary and hourly. Stipulations for changing schedule less than 1 week prior, also require minimum of 11 hours between shifts (no “clopening” shifts). Overtime pay for salary workers who work over 45 hrs a week. Companies/businesses should not be able to require salary or hourly workers to come to work, be on conference call, or last minute meetings/trainings. If a salary person is needed to do work on day off, and they agree, they should be compensated for their time worked in the form of overtime. Sundays and holidays worked should be automatic overtime pay. This would also help retail workers have enough workers on the busiest times of week/year to take care of the businesses maximize sales.

Yet another Trump official is coming under fire for suspicion of peddling influence from the White House. This summer, the New York Times revealed that Secretary Elaine Chao -- head of the Department of Transportation and wife of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell -- has seemingly used her office to promote her family’s shipping company, Foremost Group, in China. According to the report, Chao has attempted to include members of the company in official state visits… made appearances alongside family members in Chinese media… and orchestrated several other opportunities to promote Foremost Group overseas throughout the past several months. In response, the House Oversight and Reform Committee has launched an investigation into these instances of nepotism. This investigation must be thorough and uninterrupted -- and Secretary Chao must be held accountable for any wrongdoing. If you believe those appointed to lead us should serve We the People -- not their own best interests -- add your name to support the committee’s investigation.

I miss walking by all the interesting and funny artworks in the tunnel every day, and now the tunnel is dull with Graffiti Prohibited signs spaced on the walls; it's depressing. They stopped the graffiti because maybe two individuals chose to go political, but there's no need to punish the entire student body.

According to CNN, Trump has wrongly hidden or classified his records of conversations with dictators. This would help Trump hide his corruption from the American public. I was stopped by CPD while residing in Carthage. The end result was I got tickets for improper registration and no insurance. I moved to Joplin before my court day and honestly had so much other stuff going on that I'd forgotten all about it, honestly. Well, I was stopped by JPD and got arrested. I spent a few days in Joplin city jail, then got transferred to Jasper county jail where I also spent a few days. When in Jasper county jail, the conditions were beyond horrible; and I mean for anyone. But I don't wish to share any names or specifics; however, there was an incident that I heard about where a young woman did not only attempt to, but she hung herself. She passed out; later came to in a puddle of blood, her chin cracked, her neck all messed up and bruised up horribly. Needless to say, she wanted nothing more than to die, with a whole beautiful life ahead of her. And that's what that place does to most people. All the disease and filth and hunger. No wonder people constantly go mad. Think about this. Our Jasper county jail is only teaching people to be lazy and to not take care of any responsibility at all but then they expect them to get out and just work and be responsible. That's just insane if you ask me.
