At the end of 2019, as the disease COVID-19 was ravaging other countries Donald Trump and his administration made the conscious decision to not take actions to mitigate the impending crisis for the American people. They made the decision to not appoint someone to oversee information about the disease and they made the decision to not order the tests needed in this crisis. This inaction has lead to an extreme economic downturn, an incredible number of job losses for working people, even more unstable conditions for the poor and homeless, and will lead to an exponential amount of preventable illnesses and deaths. We have just learned that this was not just incompetence but a conscious decision made by President Trump to protect his Re-election bid. In and interview with NPR, journalist Dan Diamond from Politico notes: "In the case of Alex Azar [Secretary of Health] he did go to the president in January. He did push past the resistance from the president's political aides to warn the president the new coronavirus could be a major problem. There were aides around Trump - Kellyanne Conway had some skepticism at times that this was something that needed to be a presidential priority." "But at the same time, Secreatry Azar has not always given the president the worst-case scenario of what could happen. My understanding is [Trump] did not push to do aggressive additional testing in recent weeks... and that's partly because more testing might have led to more cases being discovered of coronavirus outbreak, and the president had made clear - the lower the numbers on coronavirus, the better for the president, the better for his reelection this fall." I demand you immediately look into this gross negligence and do everything you can to ensure President Trump's resignation.

Brenda was in her new, off-grid home with no cell service area, no landline, and no way out of a second floor bedroom, naked just out of bath. Her ex-husband of 6 years, with whom she had a violent and abusive relationship for 13 years, who had multiple charges on, restraining orders, and 911 calls, parked his truck part way down the driveway, ordered kids to get in and stay there, forced entry into her home, admitted this to VSP on camera, and violently went after her yelling, "I am going to beat you to death and put you in a hole before I give you one dollar," and calling derogatory names as he made his way to her bedroom on the second floor with Brenda screaming, "Get out of my house now, do not come in my house, get out," and as he entered the bedroom she pulled a gun and screamed, "Get out or I'll shoot you!" He covered his head and ran. No shots were fired, no one was injured, he left. She called the police, he had already called them, she was unaware of this. They arrested her her on two counts, 1 for assault with a deadly weapon and one for reckless endangerment, both felonies. Brenda was born and raised in VT and has her hunter's safety certificate. She grew up handling and living with guns and there was nothing reckless about her stopping a man from physically hurting her or killing her in her own home. Public Defender Willhoit stated he did not have time to prepare for her case as he has too many cases, like all public defenders in Windham county. Willhoit did not submit evidence to discovery. so no evidence was allowed in the trial. Two important witnesses were not called; the two witnesses who were called were not properly questioned. Willhoit did not make and had no opening statement prepared, Brenda was not put on the stand and her side of the story was not told. She was found guilty of both charges and sentenced to prison and probation. Her new lawyer has filed an appeal which is pending in the Supreme Court. The superior court judge ruled yes to stay Brenda's conviction until the appeal is ruled on. Brenda is a proud and excellent mother of 3 and Mima of 2, works full time and is a good person with a huge heart who now suffers from severe trauma response from the man who lied and is putting her in jail. This is important to offset loss of small business owners and families who will be adversely affected by "Coronavirus" shut downs and suspensions.

We are in a health crisis and entering an economic crisis. During the Great Recession, leaders focused primarily on financial relief for big businesses and banks, causing communities of color and working-class people to lose massive amounts of wealth – forever. We must learn from this previous mistake, and provide consistent financial support for families that were already living paycheck to paycheck. We need to send Emergency Money to the People right away, and provide ongoing support. NBA stars, business owners, and concerned citizens on Twitter are sending people cash to cover lost wages and emergency supplies. The government should bolster what Americans already know to be correct – that cash allows people to solve problems for themselves, quickly.

We are losing a lot of potential in healthcare due to current immigration regulations that restricts physicians' contributions. The current J1-waiver situation limits the ability of these physicians to treat patients and provide care in cases of emergencies (such as COVID-19). Many physicians are required by their J1-waiver obligation to only practice in few locations under the scrutiny of their sponsors and government.

As the coronavirus continues to spread and cause harm, undocumented families face harsh risks as they seek to care for their loved ones and seek access to health care. Currently, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Customs and Border Patrol (CBP), and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) continue to target undocumented people in our community. As a result of fearmongering and misinformation, AAPI individuals in our communities have been harassed, racially profiled, and physically attacked. But now is the time for unity and protection for all our people, regardless of immigration status. We join together to reject xenophobia and racism, which only worsen the effects of the pandemic and put immigrants at harm. Together, we demand that this administration and government at all levels respond swiftly and universally to protect and support everyone, including undocumented immigrants. We know that this is an evolving situation, but time is of the essence. We must take up solutions that center public health needs and that would immediately have a positive impact on immigrants thereby extending to the health of our nation as we pursue a course of action to “flatten the curve.” The following demands are not exhaustive and are likely to expand as we get new information: Please join with us to demand that President Trump: Suspend ALL immigration enforcement activities and operations. DHS must suspend deportations, immigration arrests, mass raids, detentions and enforcement in sensitive locations. Provide Free COVID-19 testing, treatment, and services for ALL, regardless of immigration status. Black, brown, undocumented and low income communities are more vulnerable to health and economic crises. Additional supports and/or stimuli that shore up the safety net and the economic security of those most in need–from food stamps to rent/housing assistance to unemployment insurance to paid leave among others–should be universally accessible without triggering any immigration penalties. Guarantee safe conditions and provide healthcare, testing and support to protect those in detention and prisons. The number of birds in the United States and Canada has fallen by 29% since 1970. There are now nearly 3 billion fewer birds than there were just 50 years ago. Weakening the Migratory Bird Treaty Act is a callous move that will allow corporations to get away scot-free with killing birds, whether they're landing on polluted ponds left uncovered by the oil and gas industry or have their nest trees cut out from under them. We're in the middle of a wildlife extinction crisis. Birds need more protection, not less.

We are in the middle of a fast expanding pandemic

The United States has an opportunity to avoid or mitigate the overwhelming of hospitals as seen in Hubei, China, and Lombardy, Italy. Given the exponential rate at which the undetected virus spreads, investing in testing now, alongside other public health measures, will save lives, spare hospitals, and ultimately save funds. A similar per capita rate to South Korea would suggest approximately 70,000 tests a day, nationwide, should be conducted in the USA. However, according to the CDC's website, as of March 12, the last complete data available (March 6) shows a mere 137 tests run by the CDC and 1162 by public health labs.

An astounding number of people in this city do not have enough savings to cover food and basic supplies for one to two weeks in the case that they are out of work. In light of the current spread of Coronavirus and resulting economic effects, many people in Cleveland are understandably nervous about the insecurities they may be facing if they are unable to work. Many low-income residents in Cleveland are in a tenuous situation due to the spread of Coronavirus and resulting workplace shutdowns. We've crafted a thoughtful and collaborative approach to the crisis in the hopes that landlords adopt these practices to avoid any undue displacement or hardship on their tenants: 1. Proactively reach out to tenants to explain the landlord's plans and expectations on this issue and to ask them to provide updates about any changes in their financial status. We ask that landlords assure tenants that they are committed to working with them on a case by case basis to accommodate their needs. 2. During the course of this epidemic and its resulting economic outcomes, we ask that landlords put a moratorium on any financial-related evictions. 3. We ask that landlords utilize deferrals, loans, or temporary rent reductions/forgiveness as necessary to help those who have been laid off, prevented from working, or otherwise unable to make their rent rely on the safety and security of their home. Here is a message template to share with tenants: “Dear _, we hope this message finds you and your family well. We understand that the unfolding Coronovirus epidemic will impact a number of our tenants and are monitoring the situation closely. We do not want to add housing insecurity to the stresses that everyone is already experiencing, and are committed to ensuring that all of our tenants can stay in their homes through the duration of the present crisis. We are willing to work with each tenant on a case by case basis to address problems, financial or otherwise. We are asking that everyone promptly inform us of any developing problem as soon as new information is available so that we can work together to make accommodations. Please keep us posted, do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns, and in the meantime, take care of yourselves." * * * * * * * * We must work together to find solutions that meet the needs of many.
