In his 2018 proposed budget, Trump has requested A LOT more money to fund the detention and deportation of immigrants, including: • funds to hire new ICE and Border Patrol agents to terrorize our communities, • more local police to focus on immigration enforcement, • a massive increase in immigrant detention—the equivalent of locking up the entire population of New Orleans over the course of a year, • $1.6 billion to build a southern border wall, and • further border militarization including aircraft and surveillance technology At the same time, the administration is seeking drastic cuts to vital housing, education, nutrition, and health care programs that help communities grow and thrive together. Trump has also already made the decision to take away DACA, putting at risk hundreds of thousands more to detention and deportation. Congress is taking action on this budget right now. The bill which recently passed the House of Representatives gives Trump almost all of what he asked for, even though ICE and CBP have put the detention and deportation machine on steroids, regularly lie, hide information from the American public, and retaliate against anyone who speaks out. It's now up to the Senate to make sure that Trump does not get the resources to launch his hate-fueled attacks on immigrants. New Jersey Senator Cory Booker is a leading voice in the Senate and advocate for progressive immigration, criminal justice, and education reform. We believe he is in the position to be a progressive champion in opposing the immigration enforcement budget and to influence how much taxpayer money will end up going towards Trump’s anti-immigration agenda. We are asking you to sign this petition in order to tell Senator Booker that his constituents in the state of New Jersey want: 1) For Senator Booker to publicly call for significant cuts to the detention and deportation machine. 2) For Senator Booker to be a voice within the Senate for divesting from the detention and deportation machine and investing in healthcare, education, and housing programs and other vital programs.

  • Demand Fair Prices for Drugs Invented using Taxpayer Money
Drug corporation Novartis is profiteering off taxpayers and children with cancer. Novartis announced plans to price its new cancer drug, Kymriah, at $475,000 per treatment. But American taxpayers invested over $200 million in the basic science behind the drug. What Novartis is doing is tantamount to extortion. But we can stop it. We're holding Novartis accountable. We're demanding Americans do not pay twice for a drug they helped invent. We don't have huge bank accounts like pharmaceutical corporations—but we have each other. We have our voices. Let's stand together and use them. Add your name to this critical petition now.

  • Motel 6 CEO Jim Amorosia: Stop calling ICE on your customers, and apologize, now
Motel 6—which is controlled by the CEO of the Blackstone Group, one of Donald Trump's biggest supporters—is suspected of calling ICE to report undocumented guests. Employees at two locations in Arizona, where more than 20 arrests by ICE have been made in recent months, confirmed rumors, telling local media: "We send a report every morning to ICE -- all the names of everybody that comes in." Let that sink in for a minute. Motel 6 is literally taking money from immigrant customers, and then calling immigration agents to come round them up, jail them, and deport them if they can find a reason. This is unacceptable. Adding insult to injury, Motel 6 has released a statement claiming this was an isolated incident and the practice "was discontinued." That's it. No change in policies, no employees disciplined, no increased oversight. We can't let Motel 6 get away with these anti-immigrant practices. Demand that Motel 6 ensures none of their branches are cooperating with ICE. Together we can show callous companies and CEO's that they are not above basic decency.

  • Make child care costs tax deductible
I am starting this petition because the cost of childcare is out of control and crippling the middle class and lower income families who make nothing, yet too much to receive assistance. In running for president, Donald Trump made fixing this a priority. Now is the time to force action. Let's put some money back in the pockets of American citizens by making child care costs tax deductible.

  • Eradicate Duke Energy
For many Central Floridians, Duke Energy is the only provider available. The company has used this monopoly to their advantage by charging fixed rates, refusing to restore power, and abusing FEMA provisions. Floridians are suffering at the greedy hands of those who run this subpar service; action must be taken NOW. The goal of this petition is 10k signatures.

  • Keep Families Together
This affects our U.S. born spouses and their children by separating families who have tried to do the right thing when applying for family based residency. My husband was denied his permanent residence and a ten year bar placed because he had been here more than once and over one year. We have now been separated and are having to make the decision to move our children to Mexico in order to remain a family unit.

  • Free Rohingya From Being Oppressed by Myanmar (Burma) Government
The Rohingya are mostly Muslims traced to the area around the 8th C and they are now denied citizenship in Myanmar because the Government believes they are immigrants from Bangladesh. They are subjected to hostility from the major ethnic group (Buddhist extremists), which is also the composition of the ruling Government. The country’s leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, who once won the Novel Peace Prize, has been largely criticized for neither condemning nor stopping the extreme human rights violations meted out to the Rohingya, a minority tribe currently being subjected to torture, displacement, restricted movement, denied access to state utilities, and being humiliated. U.N claims most of the alleged tortures cannot be validated; the same loose buttons that are being pushed by Aung. So this problem continues and the Rohingya continues to be “cleansed” in what many believe is an effort to extinct the tribe from Myanmar. Essentially, many leaders fail the litmus test of times. A mass killing that targets a tribe/religion is a hate crime. Aung, added to being stripped of the Nobel Prize, must be made to condemn, act in accordance with international law to provide protection to this minority group, and see to it that perpetrators are punished. The birthright of the Rohingya must be respected and restored, and such must be put in their constitution. It is time to end their years of humiliation and displacement. The type of violence is not acceptable and it is time for world citizens to send a strong message to the Myanmar Government. Please take few minutes of your time to sign this petition, share with your friends, and encourage them to sign as well. Thank you for quick action on this. • Congress does fear TERM LIMITS, but I ask WHY NOT CONGRESS TERM LIMITS?
With Medical Science extending our lives, it is time to limit the terms in Congress. i.e. Representatives to 3 terms & Senators to 2 Terms. While each person is UNIQUE, THANK GOD, no one is irreplaceable & serve longer than their initial energy lasts & benefit from that. At 82, I am still very active, but I do have the Physical Limitations that Age Brings! My 2 Grandfathers lived to 81, outliving my Grandmothers, which is rare, so I have outlived my Grandmothers & I thank GOD for that! My father lived to 92, but the last 6 were after a Stroke, which meant he was very limited. He read a whole lot & felt we would live up to 200 years, due to Medical Science! In this nation of over 300 Million People, we should not limit ourselves to our present 435 Representatives and 100 Senators , but bring new SPIRIT to Congress constantly! Donald Trump wants to make members of Congress step down after a few years. But it's wishful thinking, mostly for these four reasons: 1) The Supreme Court says passing term-limit laws is unconstitutional. In 1995, the Supreme Court decided in a 5 to 4 vote that states or Congress can't just make a law limiting the number of terms members of Congress can serve. The decision essentially wiped off the books term-limit laws that 23 states. 2) Constitutional amendments are really, really, really hard to pass. It requires an agreement by a two-thirds supermajority of Congress and then to be ratified by three-fourths of states, or 38 out of 50. Only 27 proposals out of countless ideas in our country's 240-year history have climbed that steep hill. 3) Many political scientists think term limits are a bad idea. In fact, paradoxically, term limits could increase the power of those who can stay around the Hill for as long as they want: lobbyists. 4) Congress would probably never agree to it (and never has). Trump is right, imposing term limits on Congress isn't a new idea. Politicians — especially those on the right — have been floating the idea for years as a way to crack down on corruption. The thinking goes that once a lawmaker spends too much time in Washington, he or she becomes part of Washington and incapable of effectively serving people outside of it. So let's put a limit on how long they can be in Washington. Why would lawmakers agree to campaign for a job they're just going to leave in a few years? And of all the reasons Trump's term-limit proposal won't happen, this is probably the most salient: Congress doesn't want it. These 2 Robert F. Kennedy quotes apply to my PETITION, I believe: “There are people in every time and every land who want to stop history in its tracks. They fear the future, mistrust the present, and invoke the security of a comfortable past which, in fact, never existed.” & “Some men see things as they are, and ask why. I dream of things that never were, and ask why not.” My Father was open to do things, which as many men do “fear the future, mistrust the present, and invoke the security of a comfortable past which, in fact, never existed.” , so I ask WHY NOT CONGRESS TERM LIMITS? After Franklin D. Roosevelt (president, 1933–1945) was the first and only American president to break Washington's tradition successfully. He died in office a few months after starting his fourth term. This gave rise to a successful move in Conngress to formalize the traditional two-term limit by amending the U.S. Constitution. As ratified in 1951, the Twenty-Second Amendment provides that "no person shall be elected to the office of President more than twice". To me, it is unconstitutional to limit only PRESIDENTIAL TERMS! My Father OLAF was open to do things, which as many men do “fear the future, mistrust the present, and invoke the security of a comfortable past which, in fact, never existed.”, so I ask WHY NOT CONGRESS TERM LIMITS?
