Michael's Act: Save our childrenI lost my youngest son to an overdose on September 28th. He was only 25. His older brother and I found him at home. No sibling or parent should ever have to experience this. Treatment and changes to laws must be made. All efforts must be made to bring the drug dealers and manufacturers of illegal drugs to justice. This is at epidemic proportion and not limited to any particular state. Imagine the heartbreak when you are told by law enforcement that the phone of your child, which most likely can lead them to the dealer, cannot be unlocked. I will forever miss and love my son. Please speak to your co-worker, neighbor, or family member as everyone knows someone who has been affected by this war on drugs. This issue involves each class and we need to demand that laws be changed to ensure the safety and well-being of loved ones.62 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Becky Matlack

Transgender rightsI am transgender, and have been affected greatly by recent state laws, or lack of them. I live in MD, where we have our civil rights. There have been no problems (including in the bathroom). Please allow all transgender people the freedoms I now have.378 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Rose Elizabeth Supan

Calling on The United Nations to monitor US electionsAfter reading today's article in the Boston Globe about Donald Trump's supporters planning on going to polling places to intimidate voters —at his request—I am now fearful to vote in person. Donald Trump is calling for violence and intimidation on election day and we need Election Monitoring by the United Nations. From the Boston Globe "I'm going to go right up behind them..… I'm going to make them a little bit nervous."68 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jessica Tanzer

Florida's Voter Registration Deadline Must be Extended Due to Hurricane MatthewGovernor Scott is refusing to extend the October 11 voter registration deadline as millions of Floridians face mandatory evacuations, widespread power outages and disruption to their day to day lives. Our democracy demands that all who have the right to vote, be given the opportunity to exercise their right.1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jamiah Adams

Give Family Law Trials a Fair Jury for CustodyIt's about making sure our Family Court Judges stop making custody decisions that hurt our children. All too often, we're seeing Judges place custody in the hands of abusers as a sure way to keep revenue in Family Law- knowing the "good parent" will never stop fighting for their child. Family Court has become a biased, corrupt and broken system. Too many poor decisions are being made, and our children are suffering! It needs to stop!26 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Christl Wakeland

Don't use hurricane Matthew to steal the Florida election! The right to vote is American's most sacred right. It is disgusting that governor Scott is using a natural disaster to attempt to steal the election for Republicans. This is especially galling since governor Scott ordered the people to leave in the first place.4 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Kenneth West

Release Lawyer Ousainou DarboeLawyer Ousainou Darboe and 18 officials of the opposition United Democratic Party of The Gambia; Momodou Sanneh, Lamin Dibba, Kemeseng Jammeh, Femi Peters, Fakebba Colley, Lamin Jatta, Junkunda Suso, Lamin Ceesay, Tapha Makalo, Fanta Darboe, Amadou Sawo, Kebba Khan, Fatmatta Jawara, Fatou Camara, Nogoi Njie, and more, have been sentenced to three years in the notorious Mile Two Prison for engaging in a peaceful demonstration. They were demanding the body of Ebrima Solo Sandeng, a UDP official murdered in government custody for leading a peaceful protest for electoral reforms, and the release of the other protesters tortured by government agents. Some of the women were beaten, raped, and locked up with serious life threatening injuries. Instead of respecting the constitutional rights of the UDP officials and activists, the government, on April 16, got them arrested and had them on trial in a kangaroo court. We are deeply troubled by their convictions. Most of the officials are elderly men over 65 years, and some of the women are mothers with young children. Already another UDP member, Ebrima Solo Krummah, died in custody without official explanation. These were not isolated incidents. Rather, they fit into a disturbing pattern of Yahya Jammeh’s 22-year iron-fist rule. In the words of Amnesty International, they are part of a "continuing downward spiral for human rights in The Gambia.” And according to Human Rights Watch, “Sandeng’s senseless death in custody appears to be the latest in a long line of abuses against the political opposition in Gambia. …This case heightens concerns that the Gambian government will intensify its crackdown on independent voices ahead of elections in December.” In recent months, for instance, he summarily fired and detained dozens of senior officials, including Sarjo Jallow, a veteran Foreign Ministry official, at the notorious National Intelligence Agency headquarters. They are still not charged with any crime or released, in clear violation of the Constitution. The UDP is the largest opposition party in The Gambia. And Lawyer Darboe is a popular opposition figure and prominent human rights attorney. Yahya Jammeh perceives him and his party as a threat. Hence, the clampdowns, arrests, abductions, detentions, sham trials, and murder. Please join us, Gambians and friends of The Gambia, to call on The Gambia Government to release the UDP officials and activists and all political prisoners. We need your voice to end the tyranny. Justice for Alfred Olango! On Tuesday, Alfred Olango, an unarmed Black man who was mentally ill was shot and killed by El Cajon police officers after his sister called the police asking for help for her brother. In video footage captured after Olango was killed, his sister can be heard wailing as she looked at the body of her murdered brother, crying, "Oh my God. You killed my brother. I just called for help and ... you killed him." She says she'd phoned the police three times for help stating that her brother was "not acting like himself." Witnesses report hearing as many as five gun shots. The murder of Olango by El Cajon police, comes on the heels of fatal shootings of Black men in Tulsa, OK and Charlotte, NC. Alfred Olango is the 217 Black person to be killed by U.S. police thus far this year. San Diego District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis has indicated she will investigate. The community in San Diego is already demanding action and justice. Let's make the world knows that concerned Americans across the nation are also watching to see that justice is done.738 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Corinne Ball

Chickens in LitchfieldI have seen a lot of people ask the question "Can we have chickens in town?". Sadly, the answer is no. I am starting this petition to see how many people really want to have chickens inside city limits. If we get enough signatures, I will petition city council to change the ordinance and try to get them to allow at least 3 chickens per household in town!159 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Cody Lemke

Get our crossing guard Danny Back!My daughter attends Valencia Elementary, which recently had their crossing guard QUIT. Daniel Sanchez was loved by teachers, parents and students. He went above and beyond every day to keep hundreds of children safe. Danny was harassed and reprimanded so many times, by his Supervisor Sheri Patton- for just doing his job and was being told that he was doing "too much," to keep our children safe. Danny was forced to adapt to street construction and deal with hundreds of cars twice daily at an intersection where drivers are careless and do not always abide by traffic laws. Valencia is a school with 80% ridership. Valencia has 80% of students come and go by car and on foot. Most of those students crossed to walk home or meet parents in waiting cars, at Danny's crosswalk and all cars exit out through his crosswalk. Danny was amazing and did what needed to be done to keep our children and even our parents safe. Danny kept traffic flowing. All this to be reprimanded constantly and for what? For doing TO MUCH?! Danny had finally had enough and quit. We want him back! After looking into this situation, we found that Danny's Area Supervisor Sheri Patton has been bashing employees and posting private conversations between them on her Facebook Page. It dates back as Far as January of 2016. Sheri even went so far as to bash parents from Valencia that questioned her about Danny's departure. She posts every time she loses an employee and it was many, many times. It seems as though she has a high turnover rate. I wonder why?? We want Danny back and we want a Danny at every location we have a City Guard at. We want crossing guards that know its okay to do their job and to actually protect the children. Danny should have been praised and given a raise! "WE WANT DANNY BACK! PRAISE AND A RAISE!257 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Melinda Aguirre
