We are one of only three states that jointly celebrates the man who fought to end segregation alongside a man who fought for the Confederacy.

This bill is a thinly veiled attempt to allow businesses, institutions and organizations to discriminate against LGBTQ's. It will likely have further reaching ramifications if passed. There is no room in our society for discrimination at any level.

We just legalized gay marriage last summer, and we are letting (potentially) religious beliefs control our political and civil concerns. Why are we regressing on this now? This needs to stop. EDIT: The bill is Legislative Bill 975, the Child Welfare Services Preservation Act

I am a very religious man myself, and it does go against my beliefs to be homosexual. It also goes against my beliefs to treat people as if they weren't human simply because they have different beliefs as me. Jesus would frown upon you if he knew you were using his name to give you an excuse to not let Homosexuals adopt kids.

West Virginia has one of highest rates of institutionalizing and incarcerating children in the country. Thanks to your support, we stopped the opening of the Dazzy Vance Mountain Resort, a for-profit institution designed to confine children as young as four who suffer from mental health issues. Now we need your support to pass legislation to require West Virginia to invest in effect community-based alternatives to incarceration. Unfortunately, for too many of West Virginia’s children and families who need services, the juvenile justice system is the first stop rather than a last resort. Because community-based services are not available in most West Virginia's communities, courts and state agencies unnecessarily over-rely on the juvenile justice system. West Virginia should redirect money to community programs such as wraparound services, counseling and mentoring that have proven effective in helping children with mental health or behavioral issues. These programs can successfully serve three to four youth in the community for the cost of confining one youth in an institution.

While this Bill does not directly affect me, that matters none. Nor does it matter that this current legislation is not about Race, or perhaps your state. What's important is that no American, including Gay or Straight, should ever be denied a Right to Live and Love as he or she desires. Also remember, Slippery Slopes move from state to state, group to group. This is a time for healing, for growing as a Nation of Peoples, coming together as one. #Americans. At every election tensions increase and accusations of fraud abound. The possibility that at some point in the near future this mistrust will erupt into violence appears more likely than ever during this cycle. To alleviate this, and to ensure that our nation's government remains one that is of the people, by the people, and especially for the people, we need reassurance that every citizen has the opportunity to vote and that every vote is counted.

Customers often request to get tattoos on either their neck or face. They are turned away due to the current law, which restricts tattooing these body parts. Professional tattoo artists will normally turn people away for other reasons (like aesthetics or provocative imagery) that will have repercussions on the customer later in life. These decisions should be left to the individuals, not as a matter of legal prohibition. The sale of merchandise, any merchandise whatsoever, is also prohibited under the law. Many tattoo artists are also fine artists who produce works of art. The prohibition of sales of merchandise prevents an artist of great opportunities to sell their art. Additionally, the sale of miscellaneous merchandise will help strengthen the local economy and generate additional tax revenue for the state. The prohibition of these small details have a big, and negative, impact on the tattoo community and the culture of the public with whom we create art.

On January 11, my sister, Gynnya McMillen, was found dead in her room in a Kentucky juvenile detention center after being in custody for only a little over 24 hours. Since Gynnya’s death, the police are stating that they “didn’t expect that foul play was involved,” but it has recently been discovered that Gynnya was improperly monitored and immobilized when staff placed her in a martial-arts hold hours before she was found dead. There are so many suspicious factors surrounding the death of my sister. Governor Matt Bevin has fired KY Juvenile Justice Commissioner Bob Hayer and a staffer at the detention center, yet has failed to provide answers to how Gynnya died.
