The tragic police killing of 18-year-old Mike Brown hit home for millions across the country. The horror of losing a loved one to senseless, racially-motivated police violence is a daily threat in the lives of Black people in America. Now, national leaders are paying more attention to racial profiling and police brutality than they have in years. Will you join us in calling on the federal government to implement critical reforms to end abusive, militarized, and biased policing targeting Black and brown communities?

Years from now, it will be considered bizarre that anyone would have opposed the right of all committed couples to marry. Perhaps those who opposed marriage equality will apologize some day to the Americans whose rights they refused to acknowledge until the courts forced them. Until that happens we have to hold them accountable.

Just 7 weeks before election day, a panel of 3 judges from the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals lifted an injunction, allowing Wisconsin's Voter ID law to go into effect for the November 4th election. Voters who do not have a photo ID that meets the law's requirements will need to obtain an ID card or driver's license through the Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles prior to election day. But there is a catch. Wisconsin has just 92 DMV locations statewide, and 49 of those operate just 2 days a week. Four of those offices are open just 6 days a year, with one open as few as just 3 days during the year. 48 of Wisconsin's 72 counties do not have a DMV office open full-time. Offices in 2 counties are not open at all before election day, and others will be open just 3 times before the November election. That is why we are calling on Department of Transportation officials and Governor Walker to immediately institute expanded business hours, including the addition of some weekend hours, at every DMV location in the state.

The Confederate flag is offensive and demeaning to many African Americans, as a Nazi flag would be offensive to Jewish people. The United States of America represents one flag with stars and strips, which unites its people. A Confederate flag suggests division and seperatism and brings to mind the old "Jim Crow" laws of "white supremacy." This flag should be removed.

Voter ID imposes an unjust and unconstitutional burden on voters. This is voter suppression and it is causing confusion and chaos. Voters who have voted all of their lives and fought for the right to vote face not being able to exercise their constitutional rights.

More and more Americans are becoming concerned about their privacy, and the Governor needs to make a commitment to protecting his citizens' rights. Days after rejecting this bill, a bill preventing paparazzi from targeting celebrities with camera-equipped drones was signed by Governor Brown. We don't approve of the general public nor the Government and its agencies to use unwarranted surveillance drones on California citizens.

I want our Mercy girls to be able to replenish their bodies throughout the school day. We should not be punished for one person's mistake. The bottles could be monitored, making sure that everyone is only carrying around water.

The new priest had only been at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Lewistown, Montana for four days when he discovered that a gay couple in the congregation had married last year. He gave them an ultimatum: Either divorce and renounce their marriage, he told Paul Huff and Tom Wotjowick, or the two lifelong Catholics would be banned from church ministries and from receiving communion. Paul and Tom have been in a committed relationship for 30 years. Devoted Catholics, they play music at service and sing in the choir, and they never publicized their marriage. Already, as many as 40 of their fellow congregants have spoken out or quit attending mass in protest. So far the local bishop is backing the parish priest, even though he acknowledges that Paul and Tom are "good people." We need to show him that there's a growing national outcry of Christians who are appalled at how Tom and Paul are being treated.

A few days ago, the Koch money-backed advocacy group, Americans For Prosperity (AFP) mailed out incorrect voter registration information to hundreds of citizens in North Carolina. Despite hundreds of complaints from North Carolina voters who received misleading official-looking voter registration forms, the North Carolina State Board of Elections has not yet investigated this attempt at voter suppression. According to the board's public information officer, misinformation about voter registration can be a felony if it is intentionally misleading and is proven to suppress voters. These forms (from the conservative group Americans for Prosperity) misled voters about the deadline for registration and the address to which the forms should be mailed, both of which could result in people thinking they had registered to vote when they had not. Please sign this petition to tell the North Carolina State Board of Elections to investigate this mailing.
