CA SENATE: Provide paid sick days to every CA worker to ensure healthy workplaces and healthy wor...Roughly 33% of California’s workforce, nearly 6 million California workers, cannot take an hour off of work to care for themselves or a loved one who is sick without putting their pay or job in jeopardy. Workers without paid sick days must either work while sick or forego wages -- losing three days of pay can equate to a whole month’s worth grocery bill for a low-income family. Public health is very much at risk when we force people to work while sick and expose customers, co-workers, and others to often very contagious illnesses. Additionally, the Institute for Women’s Policy Research shows that 1.3 million emergency room visits could be avoided if the patients had access to paid sick leave, giving them time to visit a doctor when they were sick. Research shows that sick workers are roughly half as productive as healthy workers—a disparity that dwarfs the cost of three sick days per year. More than $160 billion is lost annually in our national economy because of low productivity when workers show up to work sick. Nearly 23 percent of adults in the US report that they have lost a job or have been threatened with being fired for taking time off due to illness or to care for a sick family member. In the recently released “Shriver Report,” more than 90 percent of single women said paid sick day reform was the most important policy that their employer could adopt to improve their lives. Connecticut is currently the only state with a statewide law on sick days. The Center for Economic and Policy Research found 3 out of 4 employers in Connecticut said the law had a positive impact on business. Fifteen percent of employers said productivity increased and 30 percent said it resulted in increased morale. AB 1522 creates a new workplace standard similar to minimum wage or the 8-hour workday. AB 1522 allows workers to seek redress for being cheated out of the sick days they earn.3,697 of 4,000 SignaturesCreated by Eddie Kurtz, Courage Campaign Institute

"Spice" Synthetic MarijuanaMy reason for this petition is to not only inform people of the Synthetic Drug but to get it removed from the shelves entirely. Until a few months ago I had never heard of "Spice" and my concern is I am among the greater population. I fear the curious teen, as most of us were, may stumble upon this drug and being it is legal, not fear they are doing anything wrong... Or just curiosity as a teen leads them to give it a try and one hit can cost them their life. I hit my mom's liquor cabinet as a kid, didn't kill me; tried marijuana, again didn't kill me. This is not the case with Spice; your curiosity can kill you if you attempt to smoke this glorified plant-like material that I refer to as Lethal Potpourri! I met a boy who took 4 puffs that put him in a coma for four days. Another boy watched his friend have a heart attack after one hit of Spice. I do not want my friends, family, co-workers or people of my community to learn of this drug at the hospital or funeral of a loved one. With your support we can make a difference... It may be tough, but if we save one life, it will be worth it!140 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Darla Marshall

End Discrimination Against Independent VotersDiscrimination is rampant against American citizens who conscientiously object to the political parties and party bosses who rule our nation. Independent voters who place loyalty to our nation above loyalty to a political party should have an equal opportunity to participate in our democratic republic.47 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Rick Robol

long overdue reparartions for all black american slave decendantsthe time is long overdue to award the black people in America the monetary entitlement they're due. this is sinister to pay out reparations to the jews of wwll, the Japanese of wwll, the aborigines of Australians and neglect the slave decendants in America as if we don't count. the bias laws in this country that allowed white people to treat blacks lower than the animals, the ruthless lynchings, the job discriminations, housing discriminations, skin color discriminations, the illegal killings from law enforcements, the racial profiling, the illegal statues of limitations on murdering black people that we have put up with for more than 400 years has to be rectified with an upgraded identity acceptance that have never been practiced to this very day. reparartions is what is needed to help restore black people to a level of acceptance of being human being of one race: the human race.32 of 100 SignaturesCreated by marvin dent

Remove Anti-Semitic posts on FacebookThe drastic rise in global anti-Semitism and violence against Jews has put not only the Jews in danger, but humanity as we look at the faces of the next Holocaust. The Auschwitz tattoo on my father's arm is still visible as we listen to people call out for death to the Jews. Facebook has become a bulletin board for such hate mongering. It has to stop.3 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Susan B. Fried

Chest Cams Reduce Incidents/Complaints of Police AbuseA study conducted in Rialto, CA showed conclusively that chest cameras worn by police officers reduced officers' use of force by 80% and public complaints against officers dropped by a whopping 88%. The use of the cameras protects the suspect from potential abuse and officers from frivolous and unfounded complaints.17 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Shirley Lawson

New Hampshire State wide ban on fireworks within a 2 mile radius of livestock.I was nearly trampled by my horse as a series of fireworks were set off and he spooked. My 31 year old mare ran in panic to the point of dehydration and exhaustion, and for 5 days did not eat or drink and lost 90 pounds. Fireworks are out of control and there is a need for changes to be made to protect ourselves and our pets. Please join us and sign this petition.63 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jill Muller

NYPD need Oversight and AccountabilityWe cannot play political Hollywood shuffle when it comes to proper oversight and accountability of the NYPD now that the Medical Examiner’s office report is clear that Eric Garner's death was a result of the illegal choke-hold applied by the NYPD Officer — and ruled the death a homicide. For the Mayor and the Commissioner to really understand the impact of NYPD's failed oversight of policies violators, they should meet with the families that have been affected by the actions of their officers who have violated the Policies and Procedures. Mayor de Blasio and Commissioner Bratton have had closed door meetings with the NAACP and Al Sharpton without Black Law Enforcement organizations, Police Brutality Victim organizations or Police Oversight organizations. For Commissioner Bratton to insist on using LAPD for guidance to retrain NYPD is insulting to say the least. LAPD continues to have a history of Police Criminality. This would be the case of the blind leading the blind. This is why the only solution has been to retrain. Retraining is the usual politically correct answer when you fail to address the root cause of Police Criminality in your rank and file and management in your department. Are we to believe that NYPD can retrain approximately 35,000 officers in an adequate amount of time? Retrain them in what? How many more use of force reviews shall we have? In the Garner killing, the NYPD policy is clear "choke-holds will NOT be Used". The training and policies are not the problem of the NYPD. The Homicide of Eric Garner if a result of failed oversight and management of the NYPD. The officer who is identified using this illegal choke-hold should be suspended without pay immediately! The problem that Mayor de Blasio must be clear on addressing is the enforcement of the NYPD Policies and Training and holding those officers accountable who break those policies when their actions are in conflict with the training they have received. Hold Police Management and Supervisors accountable for failing to supervise and correct officers under their command when officers violate NYPD Policy, Procedure and Training. Police Behavior Modification is when police management are Accountable to Suspend, Dismiss and if necessary recommend Criminal Charges when officers violate Training, Policy and Procedure of their department. Police Behavior Modification sends a clear message that there will be no tolerance for officers violating Policy, Procedure and Training that will put the lives of civilians, fellow officers and the credibility of the police department at risk. Congress: The Time Is Now to Protect Voters. Modernize the VRAOver a year ago, the U.S. Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act. Now states and localities around the country are making changes that will discriminate against voters based solely on the color of their skin or the language they speak. And voters will feel the impact of these changes this November. Congress must protect all voters by passing the bipartisan Voting Rights Amendment Act (VRAA), enacting modern, nationwide protections against discrimination at the ballot box. Since the VRAA (HR 3899/S 1945) was introduced this January, the Senate has held one hearing on the bill, and the House has failed to act. Inaction is not an option. Every day Congress fails to live up to their constitutional obligation to protect the right to vote, it gives a free pass to voting discrimination. Sign the petition to make sure your member of Congress hears from you about your support for voting rights.10,027 of 15,000 SignaturesCreated by The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights

Denounce Operation Save America's harassmentImagine praying silently in church, when suddenly strangers rush in and start shouting: "Abomination! You're going to hell!" Last Sunday in New Orleans, a group of anti-abortion protestors called Operation Save America disrupted worship at First Unitarian Universalist Church -- later bragging that they had brought the "truth of the Gospel" to a "Synagogue of Satan." The protestors went on to picket a doctor's home, and hold a mock funeral with a casket they claimed was an aborted fetus. There's no justification for this behavior, no matter how you feel about abortion. Operation Save America -- formerly Operation Rescue -- was hosted in Louisiana by a local Southern Baptist Congregation. If state and national leaders of the Southern Baptist Convention stay silent now, it is a tacit endorsement of these extremist protests.43 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Michael Sherrard, Faithful America
