Readers can freely and anonymously publish their comments in response to articles, and will often freely use terms such as "tranny", "ladyboy", "shim", "shemale", to describe transpeople. While the NYDN editorial staff blocks the use of the "N" word as well as similar epithets in its comments section, they do not block the derogatory terms indicated above. Signing this petition will help the NYDN understand that this language is unacceptable to the transgender community.

This petition asks our legislators to pass a bill that will outlaw any deployment or use of drones or any sort of robotic warfare, or robotic survelliance devices, in the state of California. California can be a model on this problem which relates to our civil liberties, rights to privacy, and basic human rights. The “Proposed Policy on Hate and Extremist Groups” confronts the GW Law community with a challenging question: how strongly do we support the idea of a free, open, and robust exchange of ideas. It is easy to support free speech when it is not challenging, when it is not offensive, when it is agreeable. But we test our commitment to principle when speech is most provocative, when it offends us, and when it challenges us. There is no question the incident leading to this proposal was deplorable: no student should ever feel threatened or unsafe on campus. But as deplorable as that incident was, the appropriate response is not to restrict speech on campus, but rather to ensure that all views are zealously, but politely, expressed. First, the proposed policy would have an immense chilling effect on speech at GW Law. The proposed policy would: (1) require that all speakers from designated groups have a verbal disclaimer before any event that their invited speakers were from a designated hate or extremist group (as determined by the ADL or SPLC); (2) include the same disclaimer on all advertisements for the event, and (3) require that every student organization pay - from their organization’s funds - for at least two university police officers as security for their events. The effect on open and robust debate at GW will be dramatic. The GW Law community should accommodate all perspectives, and all speakers, for without free participation in the marketplace of ideas, we all lose. Indeed, this incident took place at an event hosted by Dean Alan Morrison. An event designed to include all perspectives on a controversial topic in our society. Steps should be taken to ensure that all debates are respectful, that no speaker who threatens a student is re-invited to GW Law. But this proposal is not the proper approach. It will unacceptably chill speech and academic freedom at GW Law. We ask you, the Faculty of GW Law, to oppose this policy.

Stop Minnesota Republicans' attempts to amend our State Constitution. Their amendments will curtail the right to vote, infringe on the right to be represented effectively by organized labor, the right to marry the person someone loves, and will gridlock the legislature by requiring a supermajority to raise needed revenues.

It should not be a requirement for someone, who is already registered, to have to get a specific identification card to vote. This is a direct violation of the Civil Rights Acts of the 1960s.

Massachusetts Bill 661 is currently being held in the Joint Committee for the Judiciary and should never be released. (http://malegislature.gov/Bills/187/Senate/S00661) Bill 661 allows Massachusetts to become a Stand Your Ground state that protects citizens like George Zimmerman who killed Trayvon Martin in Florida. Massachusetts Law Ch 278, 8A (http://www.malegislature.gov/Laws/GeneralLaws/PartIV/TitleII/Chapter278/Section8A) already allows for broad protection within the home. Bill 661 expands this to "any place that one has the right to be" and has no obligation to retreat from or de-escalate violence in a dangerous situation. This is a Shoot First mentality that has no place in our State and it endangers us all. Please educate yourself on the implications of passage of this Bill. Research has shown that states that have adopted similar legislation have seen an increase in justifiable homicides. It is well-known that local and national guns-rights organizations are putting pressure on its members and lawmakers to consider and pass Stand Your Ground laws. Don't kick students while their down and make them pay high tuition and book fees and now full price transportation. They are already in debt. School zones are here to ensure the safety of our kids while walking or biking to and from school. School Zones help build a healthier community by encouraging families to bike or walk safely to and from school using suggested "Safe Routes To School" using Crossing Guards and "Complete Sidewalks" During School hours speed limit 15 MPH because we are trying to make it safer, any speed faster would be too fast to slow or stop resulting in running over your kid. I wrote a letter to Jerry Brown last year and he wrote back and said there is money waiting for the city if they add the school zone in their code book, and this is probably something that was just overlooked not realizing they don't exist in the code book. the city hall told me they don't have money to put up signs or to hire additional crossing guards, I shared with them that if they add them the state will fund all of that.. the city is missing out and also new this year the "Pedestrian Safety Act California" came out and I am probably the most excited person on the planet right now. soon it will be safer for all pedestrians to feel safe crossing the street, because not one crosswalk is any more important than another! It also creates a better local economy if more people feel safer to walk around the city to eat or shop, which in turn creates a healthier, and greener community by walking or biking instead of driving. I am a male with no kids in the school system, so I am not a powerful voice at the city hall, need all your help to make this possible.
