• Joni Ernst- Don't oppose the minimum wage...raise it!
Joni Ernst and candidates that share her views on opposing a minimum wage and who are against increasing the minimum wage need to understand that American workers need a living wage. It's been years since there has been an increase and it is long overdue.

  • Add Long-Term Unemployed to the Work Opportunity Tax Credit Act
Currently, job seekers are invariably being required during the hiring process to explain why they have been unemployed so long. As a result, that sends them into a cycle of not getting hired, lengthening their already long-term unemployment, and making them less desirable hire candidates by subsequent potential employers. This subtle form of discrimination needs to be stopped. A tax credit for potential employers would seem to be an answer.

  • We Need to Talk About Anaheim
Last year, 1,000 workers like me were laid off from Angels Stadium when a new company took over the food and beverage operations. We all had to reapply for our jobs with no guarantee of getting them back. The City of Anaheim owns Angels Stadium. The City Council could have passed one simple law to protect us from losing our jobs at venues the City already owns, but they didn't. For years people like us have been underdogs because the rules haven’t been fair. Now we have the chance to make better rules. With Measure L we can elect a City Council that listens to things we care about. Please sign the petition to show your support for Measure L -- Yes on Districts in Anaheim. Do it for our jobs, our union, and our future.

  • Demand fairer workplace policies!
We’re a community of women and men sticking up for the idea that in America, you shouldn’t have to choose between being there for family and bringing home a paycheck. If politicians want to talk “family values,” it’s time they start valuing families. That means recognizing that Americans need paid time off for illness or caring for family, affordable childcare, and a living wage. Election Day is right around the corner, so there’s no better time to send a message to candidates that if they want our vote, they need to show they’ll fight for ALL of us. Let's show just how many of us believe that we deserve not just a decent living, but also a decent life. Make your voice heard -- add your name to demand fairer workplace policies so that all of us can make it work.

  • Rep. McAsey, Make Corporations Pay their Fair Share of Taxes
At a time when Illinois is considering laying off 13,000 teachers, cutting college scholarships for 30,000 students and evicting hundreds of veterans from supportive housing, state representative Emily McAsey voted to protect almost $500 million in wasteful corporate tax loopholes -- instead of making corporations pay their fair share. If enough of us tell Emily we disapprove of this vote, we can convince her to reverse course and support House Bill 390, a bill that would close $500 million annually in corporate tax loopholes and provide much needed revenue for schools, infrastructure and public safety. When big, profitable corporations don’t pay their fair share, the rest of us pay more. Our income taxes provide more than 55% of Illinois’ revenue, but corporate income taxes provide a meager 9% of state revenue. Let's make sure Rep. McAsey knows we're counting on her to represent her constituents, not helping corporations dodge their taxes.

  • Tell Congress: It’s Time to Raise the Minimum Wage!
Washington has one of the highest minimum wages in the country with yearly cost of living adjustments. That’s been good for families, good for local businesses, and good for the state. By raising the federal minimum wage to $10.10 an hour and tying future increases to the rate of inflation we can lift hundreds of thousands of working families out of poverty. I’ve been fighting to pass a bill that would do just that. I’m going to keep up that fight until we get it done – but I need your support. Anyone working full time in America should be able to afford to put a roof over their head and food on the table. Yet today, a person trying to raise a family earning the federal minimum wage falls below the federal poverty line. That’s simply unacceptable. Sign the Petition: show your support for a higher minimum wage that keeps up with inflation! Thank you for your support, Suzan DelBene

  • The Broke As Hell Party
My name is Kathy Henry. I am currently an unemployed college graduate. I have over twenty years of experience as an administrative support professional but I cannot find a job. My only source of income is food stamps. There are a lot of Kathys and Kevins in my position, older workers who cannot find employment. We need to feed our families. We are not lazy. We want to work but our current crop of politicians do not care. They tell us to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps, but suppose you do not have any boots. We have paid taxes into the system and do not deserve this type of treatment. Something needs to be done.

  • We hereby petition the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to reject the City of Gloucester's proposed ...
Gloucester's proposed new Harbor Plan would allow for hotels, restaurants, shops and galleries to proliferate and would reduce the area of the industrial working waterfront by over 50%. The City's proposal would violate state regulations and decades of practice in the state's designated ports. Please sign and share by October 9, 2014. Thank you.
