  • U.S. Government: Mandatory Drug Education
In the "2010 National Survey on Drug Use" more than 22 million Americans have used an illegal drug. Everyday families are torn apart due to drugs. My family was affected by drugs when my Aunt decided to get into Methamphetamines. She lost both of her sons for some time because of drugs and is still affected by drugs. My one cousin was about 6 when she was taken to jail leaving him with his father then his grandma then his aunt constantly changing homes. My other cousin was only 2 when it happened and lived with his grandma until we came all the way across the country to take him into our home and my parents became his guardians. Both were devastated and didn't know what was going on. My aunt went to rehab, but relapsed and then went back to jail. It's been 4 years now She is currently clean, but in rehab. She claims that she knew Meth wasn't good, but didn't know the full effects and problems meth causes. We need to make drug education mandatory for all of the nation.

  • Give students the same interest rates on loans as the big banks
The interest rate on federal subsidized Stafford student loans is set to increase from 3.4% to 6.8% on July 1st. If Congress doesn't act soon, millions of college students will see their student loan payments jump. Some argue that it's too expensive to keep government loans at low interest rates, but the federal government makes low interest loans all the time – just not to everyone. Big banks can borrow money through the Federal Reserve discount window at a rate of about 0.75%. The biggest banks in the country – the ones that wrecked our economy and cost millions of Americans their jobs – pay next to nothing on their debt, while students pay nine times as much. That isn't right. The Bank on Students Loan Fairness Act lets students take advantage of the same low rates offered to banks for one year while Congress finds a fair, long-term solution on student loan interest rates. Unlike the big banks, students don't have armies of lobbyists and lawyers. But they do have us. Let's do what's right and bank on students.

  • Zero Tolerance for BULLYING, Fire D'Agostino!
On March 5, 2013, the East Ramapo Central School District School Board Attorney, Mr. D’Agostino, approached Nicholas, a senior and AP honor student at Ramapo High School, and called him a despicable profanity and offered to fight him physically. The students of East Ramapo Central School District are frightened by Mr. D’Agostino. He is in direct violation of the ERCSD Code of Conduct, the NYS Dignity for All Students Act, and he has not behaved in accordance with the values stipulated by the East Ramapo School District that employs him. He should be dismissed immediately.

  • Increase public school funding by $250.00 per pupil
Voucher schools are now receiving an extra $1,400 per pupil while our precious public schools are receiving cuts in funding. Voucher schools can pick and choose who they would like to educate and even kick students out after they have accepted funding, yet still keep the proceeds. Meanwhile, our public schools accept all students and their funding is on the chopping block. In order for America to remain competitive, we need a strong public education system! The future of our students and America hangs in the balance! Demand that public schools receive an extra $250.00 per pupil and voucher schools, which violate the separation of church and state receive no increases. America's future depends on it!

  • Townsend Schools Music Program
My daughter, Zyanne, is a Fifth grader who attends Townsends Schools and is in Band. To my dismay, I was informed that our new Superintendent and Principal are moving towards not renewing our Music Program teacher's contract for the next school year. Our music teacher is also new to the school and her name is Mrs. Bruce. Our Music Program in Townsend was revitalized this past school year, thanks to Mrs. Bruce's energy and passion as the new Music teacher. Our band has not sounded this great in a long, LONG time. Furthermore, our music students look great behind their instruments, and school spirit is coming back. You see our school spirit at every game; and the band sounds and looks better than ever! Our children deserve a strong music program, and a passionate teacher who instills discipline and inspires our children to shoot for the moon. Mrs. Bruce should be retained. If you feel the same way, I strongly encourage you all to write our Superintendent and Principal and let them know your thoughts. I am also starting a petition of support for Mrs Bruce. Please sign this document if you appreciate the great strides our band program has made this past year and would like to see improvement continue in a much needed art for our community. Thank you.

  • Let DC Coach!
DC has given everything to the Perham Volleyball Program. He intended on retiring from coaching after the 2013 season but that is being taken away from him. The varsity players want him as their coach. Isn't it suppose to be our team? Why doesn't the athletic director and superintendant listen to the students? How can they say they are at their jobs for students when they don't even consider what the students want and need? He has done nothing wrong other than care too much for the well being of the players. It is clear to the students/varsity players that the superintendant, athletic director and school board have given up on us. DC has never given up on us!

  • Our Children Before Our Movie Stars
Today, more than 30,000 income eligible children, age birth to five, sit on a waitlist for childcare in Massachusetts. These children are deprived of the very pre-school preparation that is instrumental to lifting them out of poverty. And their parents struggle to make alternative arrangements so that they can work and put food on the table. Recently the Massachusetts legislature slashed more than $17 million from this program making the growth of the waitlist all but a certainty. At the same time, millionaires are benefiting from an overly generous film tax credit that in 2011 cost the State of Massachusetts more than $44 million while generating only $7 million in revenue and virtually no permanent positions.
