When Florida honor student Kiera Wilmont conducted an unsuccessful science experiment on school grounds, causing no injuries or destruction of property, the act ultimately resulted in her expulsion from school and felony charges. Such a ridiculous response to intellectual curiosity not only defies common sense but can potentially destroy the future of an otherwise stellar student. Such egregious examples of the school-to-prison pipeline run amok must be ended today. Justice for Kiera now!

According to the 2011/2012 SARC (School Accountability Report Card) for Bear Creek High School, African American students were 16.4% (approximately 317 students) of the total school enrollment of 1932 students. However, they received 640.5 days of suspension; more than a third of the 1,833.7 total days of suspension. AB420 is currently trying to amend Education Code Section 48900 as it relates to pupil discipline. Members of our legislature recognize how the overuse of 48900 (k)1 disproportionately impacts minority students.

Hello my name is Christina. I am a student currently enrolled in Central High school of Philadelphia, which is about to lose alot of teachers and funding for activites due to the upcoming budget cuts. We as students would like a representative from the school district to come to our school and discuss the financing on the serious issues that will affect the future of our education!

We have been through the process of selecting a Superintendent twice. The money were spending on consultants could be used for teachers or maintenance. You have Debbie Collins who is qualified and have a great relationship with staff, Community, and City. Do the right thing and hire her as the new Superintendent for our School District.

NYS Bill S 738, which has been reintroduced in the Senate this legislative session, "allows board of education to provide transportation to school for a child living a lesser distance than two miles from school if the parent or guardian of the child has a physically limiting impairment and is unable to accompany the child to and from school." We must ensure the safety of all children.

CPS has implemented a policy this year that allows for 36 kids in a classroom. The mass school closings that they are proposing will lead to overcrowding and high class sizes for thousands of Chicago students. Say no to 36.

Several students enjoy the publications currently funded by the ASUN, but the association has limited their ability to solicit advertisements and has now elected to severely cut their backing budgets. This unsustainable strategy will disenfranchise many students and will harm the university's ability to compete. The arts must not be sacrificed in the name of politics--these cuts must be stopped.

This petition is about the need to stop the practice of placing and keeping children and teenagers who are capable of learning at their full potential without special education in special education and to undo all the harm that is caused to a person of any age as a result of that person's having been a student in special education in even the slightest degree.

Camila Vallejo as a leader of the Chilean Student Movement has been a pioneer in the empowerment of students in the 21st Century and an inspiration for young people across the world. The Movement and Vallejo’s own ideals reflect the values of the State of Florida as laid out in the State’s constitution: “The education of children is a fundamental value of the people of the State of Florida. It is, therefore, a paramount duty of the state to make adequate provision for the education of all children residing within its borders.” In modern times there has not been a student leader that has more personified these values and empowered young people than Camila Vallejo. The organizing and community-building that she helped to lead is not unique to Chile or even to South America, but are ideas firmly entrenched in American history as well. The Civil Rights Movement, LGBTQ Movement, Women’s rights, and other struggles for marginalized people in the United States show that we share many values of history and community with Vallejo. With the University of Central Florida having the largest student population in the United States, her presence, sharing of experience, and encouragement will help thousands of students continue the tradition of fighting for fair, affordable, and accessible education in Florida and across the country. With Florida continuing to go through tough economic times, and problems directly affecting students such as budget cuts, annual tuition increases, and mounting student debt, we need an empowered student body to address these issues. Thus with Chilean students facing many of the same problems and with their movement in a maturing spot, having Camila Vallejo speak is more appropriate and relevant than ever.

By making self-defense a required class, students will feel more comfortable with their ability to defend themselves. Whether you are a boy or a girl, self-defense can be the difference in a life or death situation.

Many children will be part of the 70,000 children who will be kicked off of HeadStart due to sequestration. All children should enter kindergarten with some form of preschool education. Our children's education should be our top priority, and these cuts should be stopped.

We the parents of PS 150 unconditionally reject the proposal to relocate our school outside of our community. We chose this school for its intimacy and location. All of us declined our zoned schools, many of which offered state of the art design and amenities. Our children are fully integrated into the social and spatial fabric of this unique learning environment. We will not accept them being uprooted.
