We object to the Seattle School Board’s proposal to place portable classrooms on the grounds at Maple Elementary for the 2012-2013 school year and beyond. We are currently the only Level 5, Title I school in the Seattle School District, and that is in no small part due to our cohesive scheduling that gives our teachers ample time to plan together and collaboratively. Further placing portables on our campus very much goes against the very open-concept classroom principles under which we plan, we operate, and thus, we succeed; portables on our campus would undoubtedly undermine the progress we have made and the potential success that our future holds. We call on the School Board to stand with Maple and help it continue its success, not hinder it.

The HOPE scholarship is based on academic excellence, not financial need. Scholarships are meant for scholars. If the state is running out of money they should make the scholarship more difficult to receive, not penalize students for having parents that earn over $140,000. Georgia needs a educated work force for the future!

In less than two weeks our NC State Board of Education will decide whether or not to make final approval for a new charter school named The Howard & Lillian Lee Scholars School in our district. This new charter will siphon away over $4.5 million dollars from our local public education budget that has already seen major reductions in the past few years. The profit will not go back into the community but into the coffers of a private for profit company, National Heritage Academies.

The amount of interest owed on student loans is unconscionable.

I choose the YMCA because their doors open at 5:30am and remain open to well after the work day is over. They are also a family oriented facility who already have an established child care room for parents who work out there.

Friday, January 20, 2012 by 9:30 am we as a group occupied the entire basement of the State House (i.e., standing room only in every room, corridor, and hallway). The Committee for Employment, Labor and Pensions were not prepared for the turn-out of Cosmetologist & Barbers. We can do it again! Highlights... The Committee for Employment, Labor and Pensions had an Advisory Committee R.O.E.C. “Regulation Occupation Evaluation Committee” was create by the House of Representatives General Assembly (i.e., to research all the State Boards and Commissions in as far back as 2010) and the report is due by July 1st each year. After R.O.E.C. concluded their research and presented their findings before the House of Representatives December 2011 Session deadline. R.O.E.C. recommended that (4) Boards and Commissions be deregulated. After the deadline on January 6th, 2012 the Committee for Employment, Labor and Pensions decided to attach the deregulation of these (4) Boards and Commissions to the already existing “RIGHT-TO WORK BILL. R.O.E.C. tried to justify their findings of why we don’t need to be regulated by the State Government. I realized that they had not really done their homework. Not enough research on Cosmetology & Barber. (See Questions) and (Our Answers) 1. Just because you’re not licensed…does that mean that your profession is not important? Answer: It is important to us to be more than certified. We worked hard to get our license and it would make it impossible to relocate into a state that requires a license to transfer and work. 2. Just because you’re not licensed…Does it mean that the consumer will lose the quality of services? Answer: In our profession we perform many corrective services, because for some reason a non-professional has screwed up the procedures and the result were not favorable to the consumer. 3. Just because you’re not licensed…Are the fees worth the license? Answer: Yes! We are willing to pay a higher licensing fee if the result is better state regulation of our profession (i.e., State cost to do business by the IPLA is $$216,376.00 annually. State revenue is $1,441,000.00). You do the math! (1)Where is the offset of $1,224,624.00? (2)What is being done with it? 4. Just because you’re not licensed…What would consumers lose? Answer: The consumer is at risk of losing their sight (malpractice injury), their money (no liability), their hair (chemical treatment), their life (paralyzed or death from massages) etc… 5. Just because you’re not licensed…Would you lose customers? Answer: Yes, if we cannot compete with the prices of “Kitchen Curls”, “Back Room Relaxers” and Over-the-Counter Colors. 6. Just because you’re not licensed…Is the occupation worthy? Answer: We perform services that require customer satisfaction that allows them to be unique as they present their selves to the world. 7. If licensing is eliminated…will it cause harm? Answer: It will create a chain reaction of loses to the entire Beauty Industry. We need to let the Mayor and City Council know that the modernization and expansion of Stuart Hobson Middle School is of critical importance to our community. The city has allocated $34 million to Hobson in the capitol budget over the next 7 YEARS! We have a complete Master Plan for the school that can be implemented now for $34 million. We are asking that they move up the money allocated for Stuart Hobson so that the full Master Plan can be completed in the next 2 years.

This petition seeks to stop Seattle Public Schools from "repurposing" existing space at Whittier Elementary into a 4th Kindergarten Classroom. Whittier does not have room to accommodate another classroom through the grades.

Recently, Longfellow Middle School has asked Kate Dunn to leave school for up to a month because she "scares people" when she faints. If this claim was true, we would have no protest. But, nobody minds in the slightest and we all think it is very unfair to not let her come to school for something that is totally out of her control, nothing should get in the way of a person wanting to learn.
