• End the use of Pink Slime in Public School Lunches!
Since the Bush administration entered into this contract, I've been wondering what they will do with it. I can't believe the Obama administration would want this stuff to go into public school lunches! I understand they may be under contract but it was just another way that the Bush administration rewarded his cronies. Now it's time to end this toxic policy.

  • Regulate For-Profit Colleges
For-Profit Colleges are one of the leading causes of students with outstanding debt, which in turn becomes a problem for the government loaning out large sums of money to said students and thus increasing America's debt all together. For-Profit Colleges usually charge $50,000-$120,000 for their tuition. Which is quite outrageous considering that state and national colleges require significantly less money to operate. Colleges that are For-Profit should be regulated, there should be a cap on how much they are allowed to charge for tuition.

  • Eliminate VAM from teacher evaluation!
Research shows that VMAs do not improve student achievement. Yet, teachers are being blackballed and placed under duress to approve an evaluation that includes the value-added test score ratings of their students' performances on standardized tests. Ignoring the research, NYS will spend millions of dollars on an inaccurate and inequitable system.

  • We Believe In Public Education
Our elected leaders have abandoned public education. They have made significant and ever increasing funding cuts over the passed five years. Their financial priorities reflect their values. I still believe that an education that truly prepares you is a basic right and should be available to all. In order to meet the ever increasing needs of society educators need to have a manageable amount of resources available to them. Please allow our schools to be successful by providing us: enough teachers, enough time to plan, enough supplies, and a realistic curriculum.

  • Stop the "Parent Trigger" Bill
This bill is seen by education experts as a devious and underhanded attack on your local public schools and hardworking teachers. Every credible parent group in Florida, including the PTA, is opposed to this bill because it will ultimately hurt students. In fact, this bill will only help private education companies and corporations who want to force taxpayers to pay them to run “for-profit” unaccountable charter schools. These schools are not held to the same standards as public schools. Even worse, the corporate lobbyists who are promoting this legislation were caught misleading the public and Legislators by saying parents support this bill. That is a lie. Again, every parent group in Florida opposes this “parent trigger” bill.

  • Hands Off Our Healthcare!
In the middle of the night on Friday, March 2, the Republicans passed their version of a state budget: a Wisconsin-style attack on public school employees, students and collective bargaining – and educators’ health care benefits. This budget is similar to what Gov. Scott Walker did to educators and public workers in Wisconsin. If anti-union legislators in Washington get their way now, just think what could happen after the general election in November! We, the educators and public education supporters of the State of Washington, urge Senate Democrats and fair-minded Republicans to oppose these attacks on public education, collective bargaining and school employees’ health care benefits.

  • Federal Consolidated Loans: Pay what YOU owe not your ex-spouses
In the 1990's the Department of Education allowed married couples to consolidate their student loans. They stopped the program when couples would get divorced and the Department of Education would not sever the loans back to the responsible parties. The Department has a "Loan Summary" sheet that clearly shows which loans are owned by whicch ex-spouse and the capitallized interest on each loan. If you refuse to pay your loans they will go after each spouse separately. They will not honor a judgement or any kind of judicial order to sever your liability from your ex-spouses liability. This affects thousands of families. Responsible people across the country are paying debts of the irresponsible with no remedy. The Department of Education could easily fix this and make those who borrowed the money pay it back.

  • Kids Shouldn't Eat Pink Slime
The USDA continues to purchase "pink slime", or ammonia treated beef scraps, for the nation's school lunch program. Lunch foods for children should be nutritious, whole foods, and not "food-like" substances. Mandating a healthier federal school lunch program and using ammonia laced connective tissue as a food additive is hypocritical, wrong and potentially harmful.
