Add your name: Save the monarch butterflySince 1990, monarch populations have crashed with nearly 1 billion of the butterflies dying. This decline isn't due to natural causes; The Washington Post has called it “nothing short of a massacre.” How so? Pollution-driven climate change is part of the problem. But we're also allowing the destruction of the monarchs' habitat through the rapid acceleration in use of Monsanto's toxic Roundup and Roundup Ready crops. As the monarchs begin their 3,000-mile fall migration, we’re joining together to call on the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to declare the monarch butterfly a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act. If we succeed, we'll give the monarchs more than a fighting chance. When it comes to preventing extinction, the Endangered Species Act has a 99% success rate. But we have to act now.4,896 of 5,000 SignaturesCreated by Margie Alt, Environment America Executive Director

Canada Lynx Need Greater ProtectionWestern Environmental Law Center is a nonprofit environmental law firm. Our expert attorneys have long been effective in Canada Lynx protection. For example, in a September 6, 2016 court victory, a federal court ordered the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service to reexamine lynx critical habitat (land designated by the federal government as essential to the survival and recovery of a species). WELC also recently obtained a court order requiring the Fish and Wildlife Service to prepare a recovery plan to guide management of the species after a more than 14 YEAR DELAY. WELC continues to demand enhanced protection for lynx and supports the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife’s proposal for endangered status for the species.1,114 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Sarah Goeth, Western Environmental Law Center

Citibank: Stop Funding the Dakota Access Pipeline! In North Dakota, over a thousand people representing more than a hundred tribes are gathered along the Cannonball River by the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation to resist the construction of the $3.8 billion Dakota Access pipeline. More than two dozen major banks and financial institutions including Bank of America, HSBC, UBS, Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo, and JPMorgan Chase have combined, extended a $3.75 billion credit line are helping finance the Dakota Access pipeline - a project that would transport about 470,000 barrels of crude a day from western North Dakota down to central Illinois, destroying tribal lands and water resources.537 of 600 SignaturesCreated by Chelsea Byers

.@cityofurbana: Join @CityMinneapolis To Say #NoDAPLOn Monday, September 12, we will rally at Urbana City Hall at 6:30 pm. [1] We'll be calling on Mayor Prussing and the Urbana City Council to follow the lead of Minneapolis [2] in supporting the water and land protectors at Standing Rock. We'll present this petition urging them to call on President Obama to instruct the Army Corps of Engineers to revoke the permits for the Dakota Access Pipeline. On Friday, the Obama Administration said it would stop construction on a critical stretch of the Dakota Access Pipeline until it can do more environmental assessments. [3] This is a very welcome move by the Obama Administration. We want this welcome pause to be made permanent. To address the threat to people around the world of climate change, we need to keep more fossil fuels in the ground. A great place to start is by helping Native Americans protect their lands and water from unwanted fossil fuel development. Sign our petition urging Mayor Prussing and the Urbana City Council to pass a resolution against the Dakota Access Pipeline, like the City of Minneapolis has. Nevada PUC: Grandfather Original Solar Customers! In December, 2015, the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada came between 32,000 rooftop solar customers and their contracts with their power provider, and impacted economically favorable power rates that had previously been agreed upon. These solar customers invested in personal solar energy systems, acting in good faith based upon promises from the state. These promises were changed and undermined much to the detriment of the utility's customers. Through NV Energy's recent advice filing, the PUC now has the opportunity to remedy their decision that has devalued the investments made by tens of thousands of Nevada solar customers. Sign our petition and tell the PUC you want Nevada's original solar customers grandfathered under their original, contracted rates.101 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Clean Energy Project

Help The Lakota Keep Their Land Free Of Oil PipelineA pipeline is being installed across Indian lands, some sacred lands, belonging to the Lakota tribe of the Sioux nation. No full EPA was done, just the catchall "No significant impact to the environment." The pipeline company is pushing their way through with construction and 16 tribes have joined to protest. The POTUS promised: "You will not be forgotten as long as I'm in this White House. Indians will have a seat at the table when important decisions are being made bout your lives. Washington can't -- and shouldn't -- dictate a policy agenda for Indian country. Tribal nations do better when they make their own decisions." Pres. Barack Obama 11/5/2009. Is it true or not? The tribes have banded together. They need the support of others who share the values and understand the continual taking of their property. It's time to say, "No More!"73 of 100 SignaturesCreated by LaMar Brown

Millions of dead honey beesI am a beekeeper, owner of a bee-product company, and mom of two kids. That's why I was shocked when I learned that millions of honey bees were poisoned recently by an aerial pesticide spray in South Carolina aimed at combating the transmission of the Zika virus by mosquitoes. And I was even more concerned when I learned that the chemical that was sprayed--a powerful neurotoxin called Naled--hasn't even been proven to be fully effective in eradicating the mosquitoes that carry Zika during trials in Puerto Rico and Florida, where people have protested its use. Will you join me in telling the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the Environmental Protection Agency to consider risks to pollinators, wildlife, and human health and to create stronger guidelines on the aerial application of powerful neurotoxins, such as Naled, for mosquito control? The Zika virus is dangerous, and we must find ways to eradicate it. But fear of the virus should not lead us down a path where we are spraying a dangerous neurotoxin that isn't even effective at eradicating Zika in the first place! Naled has already been banned in the European Union and has been protested heavily in Puerto Rico, where Zika has been more prevalent than almost anywhere else in the world. Beekeepers like me are fighting for our livelihoods. The pollinator industry contributes an estimated $29 billion to farm income and is crucial for our food supply--bees are responsible for pollinating one out of every three bites of food that we eat. But this is not only about bees. In high enough doses, Naled will kill any insect in its vicinity and can be potentially damaging to mammals.1,408 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Stephanie Bruneau

Senator Heidi Heitkamp, Stand with Standing Rock Sioux Against the Dakota Access Pipeline!Members of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe of North Dakota have been protesting construction of the Dakota Access pipeline since April. The pipeline, also known as the Bakken Pipeline, will carry fracked crude oil from North Dakota’s Bakken shalefields through South Dakota and Iowa to Illinois and then to Texas and Louisiana. In other words, it’s Keystone XL all over again. The planned pipeline threatens to pollute tribal waters and crosses land sacred to tribes, so the Standing Rock Tribe have been gathering at the site where it burrows under the Missouri River — and now construction there is on hold. Senator Heidi Heitkamp, who represents North Dakota, has refused to take a stand on the pipeline. On the one hand, she claims to be a “strong and vocal advocate for North Dakota’s tribes” who is “dedicated to making sure our Native American brothers and sisters are not forgotten,” and tribes helped deliver her margin of victory in her 2012 Senate race. On the other hand, she’s the most fossil-fuel-friendly Democrat in the Senate, constantly using her position to promote oil and coal. On the tough Climate Hawks Vote scorecard, she scored -68 (scale from -100 to +100) - that makes her the worst Democrat in the Senate on climate. If we are to have any hope at all of staving off climate catastrophe, we need to halt the fracking of North Dakota’s oil shalefields—not build export pipelines that would allow the Bakken oil boom to increase. Halting the Dakota Access pipeline is critical to keeping the Bakken crude in the ground. Protests began in April, but they’ve picked up pace after the Army Corps of Engineers issued a questionable permit for the pipeline to cross the Missouri River, the source of the Standing Rock Sioux’s drinking water. Construction began on that segment on August 10, when the Standing Rock set up a peaceful encampment that put a halt to the work. A federal injunction barring Standing Rock protesters from “trespassing on private land” may come at any moment. Heidi Heitkamp, it’s time to take a stand. Standing Rock Sioux chair David Archambault has asked you to oppose the pipeline. Stand with the tribes who helped elect you in 2012, and for a livable climate for all.29,230 of 30,000 SignaturesCreated by RL Miller

Gov Inslee: Stop killing wolves!Already, 6 wolves out of the pack have been killed. With only 90 wolves comprising the entire Washington state wolf population, it is wrong and unfair to punish these wolves for killing livestock that has been dumped on public lands with indefensible terrain.1,159 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Sara Kiesler

Oppose New Gas Pipeline at Indian Point Nuclear PlantI live in Manhattan and I'm also a journalist who has written about this lunatic project. But the entire nation should be concerned. Building a highly volatile natural gas pipeline to skirt the most accident-prone nuclear power plant in the world is unthinkable, yet it is going through. If the pipeline explodes, it could cause a Fukushima on the Hudson, affecting over 20 million New York State residents, making the entire region uninhabitable for generations, obliterating the financial center of the country and impacting the entire United States. I urge signatories to demand that their elected officials in turn demand that President Obama order the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to halt this dangerous construction.2,276 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Ellen Cantarow

Turn Water Back on to Standing RockThe Standing Rock Lakota Sioux have garnered nation wide support in their protest against the Dakota Access Oil Pipeline, and the popularity and strength of numbers of the movement is rapidly growing. In response, the state government has moved to cut off the drinking water supply to the camps of peaceful protesters on Monday, August 23. It is imperitive that we as the United States do not allow illness or fatalities to occur to these people as a result of irresponsible, reactionary water deprivation.59 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Sarah Hopper
