Hydrolic Fraction also known as fracking, which is injecting massive amounts of water and toxic chemicals into the ground to reach otherwise inaccessible oil and gas—is an extreme process, with catastrophic results. Fracking threatens our water, our air, our farms, and our health—and contributes to global warming. I'm petitioning to stop this in California.

Although I have not personally been subjected to the ill effects of fracking, I am concerned about the environment, the quality of our water supply and especially the effect on climate change. Fracking is a dangerous procedure, one that each and every individual should be concerned about.

I know from watching interviews with a number of people in other states how horribly damaging fracking is to the environment and the health of both people and animals. I have seen sick livestock, people with various mystery illnesses and cancers, and tap water that can be lit on fire! This proposed area in Illinois is right at my back door, and I am terrified that this may go forward.

Fracking pollutes our land and air with toxic chemicals (At least 500). Millions of gallons of precious water are used in this process. This water cannot be reclaimed. Toxic water from Pennsylvania is being shipped to Ohio to be "stored". Fracking is known to cause earthquakes. California has the San Andreas fault and other major earthquake faults. Do not open the Pandoras' box in California with fracking! The effects of fracking cannot be undone. Save the quality of your health, our water, our land, and air by saying "NO" unequivocally to fracking.

California is known as an environmentally progressive state and if we allow fracking here, it will set a dangerous precedent. But momentum is on our side. On Monday, three bills that would impose a moratorium on fracking came up for a crucial committee vote in the state legislature—and they passed! We can win this fight. I took the time out my day to start this petition, please take few moments to sign it and stand up for the continued health of our state.

We've seen how bad it is.

Climate change is what I am concerned about.

Enough people have been made sick everywhere fracking operations are in use. It contaminates our clean drinking water, which is also against the law. Prosecute polluters. Prove yourselves useful.

Save our water by banning fracking

I'm writing to urge you to vote against fracking for oil and gas in California. This dangerous method of accessing oil and gas jeapardizes our environment. It does not belong in CA where every drop of water is precious and a state which is highly prone to earthquakes, even without adding fracking. We must protect our ground water and prevent a practice that has been shown to produce earthquakes where there had been no significant ground movement in the past. I fear that fracking in CA could be the trigger for the huge one. Fracking does not belong in California!

I will not be affected personaly but other people will.

Fracturing the earth with water and chemicals hurts the soil, water and air. Moving the resulting tar oil to facilities by use of piping results in leaks and destruction of land and water. Fracturing the earth can also caue earthquakes - how could it not?
