  • Climate change
We have long passed the point where we can actually prevent some of the adverse affects of climate change such as rising sea levels, ocean acidification, and large storms, but we may be able to slow it enough to adapt.

  • Stop the Madness! End Daylight Saving Time
Some have said that they enjoy the extra hour of sunlight that Daylight Saving Time provides. However, you can’t cut the bottom off a blanket and sew it to the top to make it longer! We will have more sunlight in the summer regardless of what the clock says. Daylight Saving Time disrupts our natural rhythms, and studies have shown that when we change the clocks, there are more car accidents, more heart attacks, and more energy use. This archaic practice is useless and irrelevant in modern times, since we use computers, televisions, and even artificial lighting during daylight hours. Let’s stop accepting this madness and do something to end it! • Whole Foods: Drop Prop 37 Opponents' Products
Walter Robb, you voted yes on Prop 37 (http://bit.ly/WIQsKR), thank you. Unfortunately it failed because our side was outspent by corporations who make some of the products you sell. Mr. Robb & Mr. Mackey, why would you continue to give these corporations your money by selling us their products which they refuse to label? I'm not going to buy them, certainly, but my voice alone will not be heard above Monsanto's. But many voices together will be heard, especially if Whole Foods' is one of those voices.

  • Stop using disposable cups!
Ever been to Starbucks, Peets, or Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, and seen patrons sitting there drinking their coffee in disposable cups, complete with plastic lids and hand protectors??? What a phenomenal waste! Please join me in telling coffee purveyors to serve their coffee to in-house customers in reusable cups! You know, the kind you wash, dry, and re-use. The kind that leaves trees growing in the forest and saves hydrocarbons for more essential uses than plastic lids!

  • GMO FREE SKAGIT COUNTY
San Juan county just became the first in our state to become GMO free. Farmers united with locals to make it so. If we do not protect the integrity of our farms, we cannot insure the safety of our children's futures. GMO's are a corporate intrusion we cannot afford. Let's make Skagit County the second GMO free county!

  • Science, Space & Technology Literacy Petition
As a Program Action Committee member for a local university for the past decade, I understand the value of education, and how it affects the lives of those who receive it, as well as others who benefit from increased knowledge of given subjects. With so many global environmental challenges as evidenced by recent, dramatic climate changes, along with those that come from new exploration, it is necessary that the scientists and technical experts on whom we rely for advice and solutions to problems as they arise are trained and informed at the highest level. If we truly are the greatest nation on Earth, we need to demonstrate our leadership to the world by establishing minimum standards of education and training in science, space and technology. I urge Congress to pass a law requiring literacy testing to ensure these experts will help our nation to craft policy that not only addresses these challenges, but helps to solve them for future generations.
