  • Supreme Court rules in favor of gerrymandering -- pledge to fight back!
With its dangerous decision in Rucho v. Common Cause, the Supreme Court has given politicians a green light to rig electoral districts in their favor -- by refusing to take a stand against partisan gerrymandering. Five justices have given the high court’s approval to blatant, extreme, and explicit partisan gerrymandering -- granting politicians unfettered permission to rig districts to their liking. But unlike the Court, We the People won’t sit idly by while power-hungry politicians deprive us of our right to fair representation. We have to take this fight to the states -- and push for strong, voter-focused redistricting reforms. Reforms like independent redistricting commissions, which take the power to draw electoral maps AWAY from politicians and give it to the people. These commissions are already working to create fair, impartial maps in states like California, Arizona, and Montana -- and now more than ever, it’s time to take them nationwide. The Court’s decision is a setback for Fair Maps -- but not an insurmountable one. We know our democracy works best when the American people have the power -- not self-interested politicians -- and when every voter can make themselves heard. So we’ll fight state-by-state until not one voter is silenced by gerrymandering. Take the End Gerrymandering Pledge and tell your state lawmakers to pass strong, comprehensive redistricting reform.

  • Support HB0203 Ending Prison Gerrymandering In Illinois
HB0203 creates the "No Representation Without Population Act" to stop the practice of prison gerrymandering. Counting prisoners at their last known address will also help the transition to a productive life for the prisoner. Keeping the integrity of the Census count will keep their home communities accurately represented in the state legislature. • MoveOn: Support Bernie Sanders
MoveOn supported Senator Sanders in the beginning of the previous campaign. When the going got tough, MoveOn like so many others caved in when the DNC began their shenanigans. Had MoveOn and others demanded accountability and remained steadfast in conviction, we may not have ended up where we are today. To a better America, to bring back decency, common sense and begin the implementation of the programs designed by Senator Sanders, we the people need Senator Sanders, not a copy cat or corporate blue dog, to be the next President of the United States.

  • Return to PAPER BALLOTS for the 2020 Elections!
I must sincerely question the results of elections going back as far as 2004, when the balance hung on the Ohio count. Exit polls indicated that Senator Kerry had won, but Diebold machines gave the state and the election to President Bush. An 11-year-old child was able to hack a Florida machine in under ten minutes (cf., https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/nation-now/2018/08/13/11-year-old-hacks-replica-florida-election-site-changes-results/975121002/), and Mr. Mueller's report indicated that foreign agents were evidently hard at work in 2016. These machines are a threat to our system of government, and we must return to paper ballots.

  • Fair, Thorough and Timely Judicial Appointment Amendments
After decades in which the Republic was well served by a Senate that took seriously its constitutional charge to provide advice and consent on judicial nominees, a new brand a republican took control of the Senate and denied consideration of the President's nominees altogether. This refusal extended even to a Supreme Court nominee. Since the Senate can no longer be trusted to revere tradition and the people's will, as consummated in a selection of a President, more restrictive language in the conduct of the judicial process is needed to avoid a future Mitch McConnell running roughshod over our Constitution.

  • President Trump Must Answer for Rape
    E. Jean Carroll, writing about a rape attempt by Les Moorines of CBS you explained why you did not go to the police “I am a member of the Silent Generation. We do not flap our gums. We laugh it off and get on with life....”Jean, America must not laugh this off: “... still wearing correct business attire, shirt, tie, suit jacket, overcoat, he opens the overcoat, unzips his pants, and, forcing his fingers around my private area, thrusts his penis halfway—or completely, I’m not certain—inside me. It turns into a colossal struggle. I am wearing a pair of sturdy black patent-leather four-inch Barneys high heels, which puts my height around six-one, and I try to stomp his foot. I try to push him off with my one free hand—for some reason, I keep holding my purse with the other—and I finally get a knee up high enough to push him out and off and I turn, open the door, and run out of the dressing room. The episode lasted no more than three minutes, she said. She said she has never had sex with anyone since.” Jean, we know how difficult it will be to see him in court and empathize with you as reported in the NY Times. “Ms. Carroll said she never came forward because she feared death threats and 'being dragged through the mud, being dismissed'.” But rape must not be dismissed, and thousands, probably millions of Americans will honor you for your courage and commitment to see justice enacted. Lastly, we men, who have signed this petition beg you to act because by not allowing one of us, in this case the most powerful man in American, to get away with his evil, every American will know that the sexual violence against women must not be ignored, or allowed to continue in our country, or anywhere else.

  • Duncan Hunter: Resign Now
Representative Duncan Hunter must resign immediately. Recently, Duncan spoke publicly about participating in the shooting of civilians while in combat and has defended the actions of other service members accused of war crimes. He did not do this by stating that they were innocent, but instead that the war crimes themselves were not significant. This is abhorrent. Not only that, but Duncan Hunter has also been accused of using his campaign funds for personal use, including paying for his children's school tuition, taking overly lavish vacations, and to fund at least five extramarital affairs. Duncan Hunter used his campaign funds to pay for Uber rides, hotels, and drinks for five separate relationships he was maintaining outside of his marriage. This is absolutely egregious. Duncan Hunter's affronts to the public do not stop there. He has made blatantly Islamophobic comments against his former opponent in 2018, making wild, unfounded, and racist claims that the Democratic nominee for the seat was tied to what Hunter considers extremist Muslim groups. This man has no business serving in the U.S. Congress. I have lived in Representative Hunter's district for 15 years, and I do not want my Congressman to be someone who casually dismisses serious ethical breaches like firing upon civilians during combat, using campaign funds to pay for his personal needs and extramarital affairs, and using fear-mongering and Islamophobic comments to win. Duncan Hunter should resign from office immediately.

  • STOP TRUMP FROM STEALING THE 4TH OF JULY
Our traditional celebration honored our country. I don't want trump to cheapen our legacy of a free country and further deface the licoln memorial by speaking about himself. President lincoln sought to unite america not divide it as trump has done. If we turn off his shameful appearance , he will lose most of his audience and not get the attention he constantly craves. The media might take note and perhaps help us achieve a greater number signatures from people who agree.

  • Protect our ballots from rigging and hacking
In light of current news of nation-state interference in US elections, every state has the responsibility to safeguard its entire election process against rigging, hacking and computer errors. According to election security experts, only hand marked paper ballots, robustly audited by publicly witnessed hand counts, can protect our elections by catching tallying errors - whether due to rigging, hacking or computer error - after the fact. New York currently has no reliable path to 100% hand count, which courts have prevented even in very close elections (e.g. Johnson v. Martin, Nassau County, 2010). Currently, NYS law allows vendors to choose which voting machines to submit for certification. We need to establish an RFP process and outlaw voting machines that can print over voter-marked or voter-approved ballots - the only ones vendors are currently submitting for certification! And we need to establish a right to recount like 43 other states have in close elections or upon candidate- and voter-petition initiative. Otherwise, our elections are invitations to riggers and hackers. And now the courts have ruled that voters and reporters can’t ever see the ballot images - the photos taken by our scanners - because they must be preserved and therefore can’t be FOILed for two years - after which they can be destroyed! That must be reversed by legislation. Public display of ballot images would be a way for voters to verify for ourselves the accuracy of the computer count.
