I am a senior citizen & I need my social security, I need my COLA raises and the one I will get in 2019 is the first in the last seven years! My last one was $8 and the one before that, was, I think, $3.00! and they were years apart! It's my $$ & my employer's, not Congresses'!!

Joe Manchin, the pro-coal Democratic senator from West Virginia, is in line to be the ranking member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources committee next year, taking the place of Maria Cantwell who is leaving the role to head a different committee. Although one of the most public examples of his support of fossil fuels was his campaign ad where he shot a cap-and-trade bill with a rifle, his voting record demonstrates that the ad wasn't just a bunch of campaign hype. Climate Hawk Votes gave him an environmental score of -26 for the 2015-16 session. This year, Clean Water Action gave him 33%, using their own ranking criteria. In theory, the Social Security Trust Fund has a surplus of $2.8 Trillion which is designed to help pay for the retirement of baby boomers. Unfortunately, over the last thirty years, Congress has borrowed from that Social Security Trust Fund and there is no plan in place to repay it. The Wisconsin Republican-held legislature passed a law limiting the incoming Governor and Attorney Generals powers in an effort to reverse their devastating midterm loss. I cannot stand by and watch America descend into legislation without representation. The GOP believes the voters of Wisconsin do not care. The Wisconsin Republicans are attempting to sabotage the powers of the elected Democratic governor. Legislation would remove or limit decision making powers concerning public welfare, ongoing contract and legal negotiations, voting rights and appointing people to government posts.. There is a new governor in the state and we would like him to know that we support Commissioner Scheff. He has been a champion for our individuals with ID/D and we would like to see him remain the DDS Commissioner.

I've spent numerous holidays away from home in far away countries. I know the toll it takes on our men and women in uniform to fight in a war and be away from their families, especially over the holidays. Every other president who served during wartime has shown our deployed forces respect by visiting them. If the president of the United States asks our military to fight these wars, he needs to at least visit them to show support. President Trump has said he'd "gladly" visit them "sometime soon." Let's hold him to that and show that he needs to make our military members and veterans a top priority.

Republicans in Wisconsin lost the gubernatorial election. Their solution? Go behind our backs to rewrite the rules of our democracy. When voters took to the polls this fall and elected a new governor -- who promised to serve as a check on the extremist GOP legislature -- these politicians should have gotten the message. But instead, they’ve called a last-minute special session (with almost no public notice or constituent input) -- and are planning to rig the laws in their favor. They’re rushing a package through the legislature that would limit the new governor's powers and restrict early voting -- all in an effort to subvert the will of We the People. We’ve seen this before in states like North Carolina, and the message is always the same: “If we can’t win in a democracy, we’ll break democracy to get our way.” We must fight back -- right here, right now, before their plan goes any further. Add your name to demand that all state legislators in Wisconsin stand up for voters -- and vote against this hyper-partisan assault on democracy.

The elimination of the influence of corporate money in politics and the egregious economic injustice to almost all Americans caused by that corporate money in politics is long overdue. All but big corporations and the very wealthy have been adversely affected by the 5-4 GOP SCOTUS ruling in Citizens United because it allows corporations and not our elected lawmakers to control and exploit our lives and our environment for their self-aggrandizement to the serious detriment of working families, small business owners of which I am one, and the very life of the planet.

Cause corporations were not meant to fund congressional members for agendas that create a larger gap between “classes” in society. Lobbyists are mule middle men who fuel corruption in the USA government. It needs to end now!
