• The NC DMV Needs a Policy for Gender Change on Licenses
When I attempted to change the gender on my license in North Carolina, my proof of documentation was rejected without cause. An original document of mine was confiscated despite my protests and I received inappropriate commentary about my identity and body. Transgender people in NC are treated inconsistently at DMV offices because no policy exists detailing what documents are in fact required. My lawyer and I are crafting a letter to request that the DMV creates a policy for gender change and we need signatures to bolster the cause.

  • Congress should act immediately upon bipartisan action to prevent firing of Special Prosecutor Mu...
Special Counselor Robert Mueller was appointed by Asst. AG Rosenstein in accordance with the position created by US Congress. According to this legislation only Rosenstein - or an appropriate DOJ official can fire Mueller or effect the efforts by the Special Counselor to conduct the investigation he was appointed to do. President Trump has repeatedly made statements and considered action that would either fire or- restrict Mueller's investigation. In order to protect the integrity of both the office of Special Counsel and the accompanying investigation; a bipartisan measure that would in the event of any attempt to fire Mueller; set up a 10 day window to seek expedited Judicial Review of such firing by Republican Senators Tillis(NC) and Graham(SC) and Democratic Senators Coons(DE) and Booker(NJ) is being prepared for consideration by the Senate Judiciary Committee. This measure should be taken up by this Committee and then brought to the Senate Floor and voted in. The House of Representatives should work upon a similar measure and expedite its consideration by appropriate committee and then send to the floor of the House to be passed there.

  • Stop Gun Shows at California’s State-Owned Cow Palace
A State agency hosts five gun shows every year in the San Francisco Bay Area. The gun shows take place at the Cow Palace Arena and Event Center, which is owned and managed by a division of the California Department of Food and Agriculture. Each show features hundreds of tables where firearms are bought, sold, and traded, with free admission for children under 12. It is time for the Cow Palace to stop hosting gun shows. No State agency should promote and profit from the proliferation of firearms. The US has more firearms than people—millions more. Our horrific gun violence rates reflect those numbers. The US gun homicide rate is more than 25 times higher than that of any other high-income country. Guns kill nearly 100 Americans daily and injure twice as many more. More than 730 children and teens were killed or injured by guns between January 1st and the recent March for Our Lives. The Cow Palace’s local communities strongly oppose gun shows on public property. San Francisco and San Mateo counties, which border the Cow Palace, have passed unanimous resolutions specifically opposing gun shows at that venue. Six Bay Area counties—Alameda, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Sonoma—have passed laws banning possession of firearms, and therefore gun shows, on county-owned property. Those official policies have been amplified by the tens of thousands of Bay Area youth and adults who recently marched and rallied to protest gun violence and demand solutions. But because the Cow Palace is owned by the State, it is immune from local control. The Cow Palace Board of Directors decides what events are held there. The Board members are state officers and must consider factors beyond maximizing revenue (although even profit-centered businesses have recently changed their policies regarding firearm sales and partnering with the NRA). The Board should listen to the local communities and stop hosting gun shows. Sign this petition to tell the Cow Palace Board of Directors you don’t want a state agency to promote and profit from the sale of guns and ammunition. Tell the Board to stop renting out the Cow Palace to gun shows. This petition will be presented to the Cow Palace Board of Directors at a future board meeting.

  • Support Bipartisan Legislation to Protect the Mueller Investigation
On at least two occasions, President Trump has threatened to fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating Russian involvement in the 2016 election and related matters. Earlier this week, after the FBI obtained and executed a warrant to search the office and premises of Michael Cohen — Trump’s personal lawyer — Trump had a public tantrum in which he called the investigation “an attack on our country” and mused about firing Mueller. Amidst all the drama, one thing is certain: The President cannot be permitted to fire an independent investigator simply because the investigator is looking into allegations of misconduct by the president himself, or those close to him. That’s the pathway to authoritarian rule. The bipartisan Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act would protect Mueller’s investigation and enable him to follow the evidence wherever it leads.

  • Stop Eminenent Domain Abuse
The use of the power of eminent domain to seize private citizens' property to serve corporate interests is wrong. A public purpose must be defined as something more than increasing tax revenues. This has led to abuse by private companies, such as the energy companies seizing private property to put in things such as gas transmission lines to benefit only themselves. Protect our right to the undisturbed ownership of property owned by individual citizens! I am starting this petition because my property is being taken for a gas pipeline operated purely for profit. There is not even a guarantee that the gas will be used in the US! This is just plain wrong, and the Supreme Court decision supporting this needs to be addressed by a law or Constitutional Amendment that stops this abuse.

  • Sign the petition: Tell Congress to fire Scott Pruitt
EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt is corrupt. His words and actions prove that he is strongly opposed to civil rights and environmental justice. He has even gone as far as actively working to tear apart our environmental protections. Currently, Pruitt is plagued by scandal for his many disreputable actions - bringing his top aides on a lavish trip to Morocco, spending $120,000 on a trip to Rome, hiring 20 personal bodyguards, and helping to secure massive raises for two favorite aides - all of these by misusing taxpayer dollars and funds meant to better the environment. He faces growing criticism on all sides, including members of his own party. The White House is reportedly frustrated with him. Even Republicans like Chris Christie think he’s on his way out. One of Pruitt’s closest aides resigned amidst the scandals, clearly demonstrating that his camp feels the pressure. But so far, Congress hasn’t done enough to push for Pruitt to be fired. Your Representative could help kick Pruitt out of the EPA by publicly demanding his removal. But we need your help to push them to act. Sign the petition and join us in telling Congress to act in Americans' best interest and fire Scott Pruitt.

  • Remove statue of Nathan Bedford Forrest from Tennessee Capital Bldg
A statue of Nathan Bedford Forrest is prominently situated in the Tennessee state capital right outside the General Assembly. The statue needs to be removed because: 1. Nathan Bedford Forrest was a successful businessman selling people from Africa who were smuggled and enslaved; 2. Forrest was a traitor to the United States during the Civil War; 3. He was the commander of rebel forces who massacred United State troops at a place called Fort Pillow on April 12, 1864, the majority of which were African American; and 4. Forrest was the first leader of the KKK. Anyone of those above reasons should eliminate him from the capital, but all four are too much to bear. His statue has got to go.

  • IL General Assembly: pass HB 4326/SB 834 the Illinois Election Integrity Act
In September 2017, the federal government notified election officials in 21 states that hackers targeted their systems before 2016 presidential election. (Geoff Mulvihill and Jake Pearson, Associated Press, September 22, 2017). Illinois was one of the 21 states. Illinois cannot afford computerized election theft in 2018. To safeguard the integrity of the 2018 General Election, the Illinois Ballot Integrity Project is working to secure the passage of the Illinois Election Integrity Act (HB 4326 (formally HB 712)/SB 834) in time for the November 6, 2018, General Election. HB 4326/SB 834 provides a single solution to a complex election integrity problem by introducing critically needed external, independent review throughout the entire election system. The Illinois Election Integrity Act will require three mandatory election system audits throughout the State, which will assure the accuracy and integrity of Illinois Elections. The three mandatory election system audits are: 1. Election Day Audit: it is an audit consisting of a count of a random sample of 10% of the paper ballots cast in each precinct, to be conducted in the polling place, immediately upon close of the polls. 2. Parallel Central Tabulation Audit: it is an audit of all votes cast as recorded on precinct poll tapes, by independent public accountants, within 48 hours of the close of the polls. 3. Pre-Election Operational Audit: it is an audit of election systems, identifies and reports election system security weaknesses, the steps necessary to remediate security weaknesses discovered. These three audits will provide extremely high assurance that votes and ballots are being accurately recorded, accurately tabulated and accurately reported. HB 4326 was submitted by State Representative Linda Chapa-LaVia (IL 83rd District) SB 834 was submitted by State Senator Christina Castro (IL 22nd District).

  • Remove Ryan Zinke as Secretary of the Interior
    1. As reported just today, Zinke has been and remains active in funneling money to scam political committees that rip off elderly donors by taking their money and then mostly keeping it for executive and consultant salaries. 2. As reported just yesterday, Zinke’s friend/neighbor’s two-person company somehow got a $300 million contract to repair Puerto Rico’s electrical infrastructure. 3. As Secretary, Zinke has repeatedly used private charter planes, including a charter flight from Las Vegas to his Montana hometown on a plane owned by fossil fuel company executives, and charters between Caribbean islands ― all on routes where commercial flights were available. 4. Zinke concealed as a congressman from Montana that he’d been living in California, not Montana. 5. Zinke punitively reassigned many of his agency’s senior employees ― for example moving Interior’s chief climate policy expert to the royalty collection division; he also named only political appointees, including several ex-industry lobbyists, to a Department committee on personnel issues, ignoring that career staff is supposed to be part of the process. 6. Zinke, in a speech last month to an oil industry group, praised hydraulic fracturing, which has poisoned the water in communities across the U.S. and poses tremendous risks of gas leaks and increased global warming. “Fracking,” he said, “is proof that God’s got a good sense of humor and he loves us.” 7. Zinke has proposed to the White House that several national monuments be dramatically shrunk and opened for mining and drilling. 8. Zinke requires his security staff to hoist a special secretarial flag on the Interior Department’s roof whenever he’s in the building and to remove it when Zinke departs. In addition, as the Washington Post reported, “He has commissioned commemorative coins with his name on them to give to staff and visitors, but the cost to taxpayers is unclear.” 9. Zinke last month told an oil industry group that nearly one-third of Interior Department employees are not loyal to him and Trump. He might have been understating matters, depending on your definition of loyalty. Probably more than a third now think that Ryan Zinke is a disgrace.
