The retirement of Justice Stevens from the Supreme Court gives President Trump the opportunity to shape the Court for a generation. It also gives him the opportunity to insure that they will rule favorably when any of the many questions surrounding the Mueller probe reach the Court, as they almost certainly will. Patriotic Senators should delay confirming any nominee until these issues are resolved.

I have watched as decisions pushed by this Administration have damaged not only America's international relationships but also the internal mechanisms of this country which are designed to provide the best possible life to it's citizens. I have watched as my children and those of others become angry and frightened by the egregious activities of politicians and businessmen who are intent on taking everything for themselves with no interest or thought about the welfare of the rest of America. If, indeed, Russia and any members of the current administration interfere with the election process, this MUST be discovered and all necessary actions take to correct it and to prevent it happening again. The GOP has demonstrated repeated animus towards Mueller, himself a Republican, and towards the investigation. Their interference must stop. They must do their job properly by supporting the investigation, not by sabotaging it.

I’m sickened at the idea that 45 is going to push through another right wing Supreme Court Justice who will set the clock back for another generation. It’s already bad enough we have a wrecking ball in the Whitehouse. We may be able to get rid of him, but we will have to live with a reactionary Supreme Court long after 45 goes to prison.

Our democracy is in jeopardy and some of the House Republicans are serving as pawns in the plan to tear It apart. We have a president who imay be a Russian asset and he has bought off other susceptible congress members. These members are not behaving in good faith. They are not defending our democracy or the constitution from internal and external foes as they were elected to do. They must be called to task, and the Mueller investigation must be allowed to proceed unencumbered.

The patency of the 2018 election is a risk if Russia is allowed to meddle. We should not allow President Trump to speak unrecorded to Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, in light of the ongoing investigation into the 2016 meddling.

Donald J. Trump is under investigation for collusion with a foreign adversary and obstruction of justice. His tenure in office has been rife with controversy. He has made many impulsive decisions that have and will have a negative impact on our country. The Mueller investigation needs to be completed before we allow another travesty created by this administration to occur. A Supreme Court Justice has a lifetime appointment. We cannot allow an assault of this magnitude to go unquestioned or standby without our voices being heard. The Senate was intended to be a deliberative democratic institution. By lowering the bar to 51% for lifetime SCOTUS appointments, the Senate no longer has any need to be deliberative and it is only democratic on paper. With a 2 party system, 51% says one party dictates to the nation. Make America Democratic Again.

The next Supreme Court Justice nominee will be selected by this heartless Trump Administration, who has no respect for the civil rights of our fellow citizens. Our great citizenry must understand that the next nominee’s decisions, if confirmed and selected as a Supreme Court Justice, will more than likely equate to the disgusting hatred and lack of compassion that has run through the ice cold heart of this authoritarian administration. My worry extends to all people in the event that this next pick will be someone who also disrespects the rights of the women in our lives and will repeal their right to an abortion. The great heights of our liberty, that is marked by the rising flames of Lady Liberty that stands as a model protecting our New York Harbor, will be taken away if we do not act with all our might to resist any nominee that does not serve the interests of the many. The time is now to stand up and no longer wait for selfish political underpinnings to affirm and continue to hold hostage the fate of the future prosperity of this entire nation. Freedom and democracy shall not be treated as merely words to be espoused for self-serving ends. Therefore I once more call on our concerned citizens to direct your attention to this petition and let it serve as an oath to uphold our rightful constitution to protect those most vulnerable among us. That can be a neighbor who we have known for years or that may be a stranger. The time to be fearless by preserving the ironclad ideals of our still distinguished nation is now. There remains an open criminal investigation into this President’s violations of the Constitution, his obstruction of justice and very close-ties to the friends and family members of corrupt Russian leader, Vladimir Putin. It is the people for which this administration answers. Let us make this loud and clear. You continuously seek to punish the majority of Americans. Thus I ask, “What is your punishment for all of your continued inhumane indiscretions?” Let these words be forcefully clear and resolute. You will have no pick, if this pick is unethical and/or represents your fascist ideology, because our court of public opinion shall NOT allow it.

This Supreme Court vacancy puts issues that affect every single American in the balance — from a woman’s right to choose to equal rights under the law to privacy and our civil rights. Given the high stakes of this seat, which I believe will determine the fate of many fundamentally protected constitutional rights, the American people should have a say in this decision. I know from personal experience — as a prosecutor and as a beneficiary of the landmark Brown vs. Board ruling desegregating our nation’s schools — that the decisions handed down by the court touch every aspect of our lives. The stakes don’t get any higher. Americans must be heard.
