We now have a paper trail of Donald Trump’s son soliciting a contribution -- in this case, opposition research to influence the presidential election -- from a Russian national with ties to Putin's government. Common Cause filed an official complaint with the Federal Election Commission and the Department of Justice against Donald Trump Jr. and the Trump campaign, following reports that Trump Jr. met with a Putin-connected Russian lawyer to obtain "official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary." NOW...we already have confirmation of wrongdoing: Trump Jr. himself tweeted out emails that prove he illegally solicited a contribution from a foreign national, just as our official complaints alleged. Those emails explicitly discuss "Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump." This is what we've been working towards for months. The American people deserve the full story of the Trump campaign’s possible collusion with the Russian government in its attempts to interfere with the 2016 election. Federal law defines a contribution as "anything of value ... for the purpose of influencing any election for Federal office" -- which makes Donald Trump Jr.'s attempt to obtain damaging information on his father's election opponent a clear-cut violation of the law. There’s no telling how deep this goes. One thing is certain: our complaint (Common Cause v. Donald Trump Jr.) and the investigation it calls for could finally expose the truth about Trump and Russia that the American people are demanding. In 1967 I was elected to the House of Representatives, to serve there with honorable people like George H.W. Bush, Gerry Ford and Bob Dole. My family had been Republicans since the time of Abraham Lincoln in 1860. I left the Party in 2007 when my former colleagues, Dick Cheney and Don Rumsfeld persuaded George W. Bush to claim the right to torture as a Presidential prerogative. His father would never have done that. In June, 1973, I had made the first floor speech to suggest the impeachment of Richard Nixon for obstruction of justice. A year later, the House Judiciary Committee, with four Republicans, including later Secretary of Defense Bill Cohen, voting Aye, impeached Nixon on the charge of obstruction of justice. Now I'm urging Republicans to do some soul-searching about what should be a fairly simple decision...to support, rather than continue to block committee investigations, not just into President Trump's actions, but into the now-admitted fact that his campaign manager, Paul Manafort, his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and son, Donald Jr. attended a meeting with a known Russian agent, to solicit information (clearly an item of value in a tough campaign) from an enemy government seeking to influence our political process. This is clearly a violation of our election laws. More importantly, it justifies inquiry, as the Senate has agreed, by not just their Intelligence Committee, but by the House Judiciary Committee, which will also have jurisdiction over impeachment proceedings if the facts ultimately show obstruction of justice by President Trump. The idea that our schools will lose critical funding because of one man's oversized ego, who wasn't even elected by a majority of Rhode Islanders, is really too much for me to take! It should also be too much for any other rational and caring person to take! Our children deserve better than to be used as pawns in Speaker Mattiello's dangerous and irresponsible decision to prevent passage of the state budget.

Trump named Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, the leader in the national vote suppression effort, to serve as vice chair, alongside Vice President Mike Pence. Now Kobach has asked states to submit personal information on every voter to his commission. There’s every reason to suspect that Kobach aims to nationalize his “Crosscheck” program, which has been used in several states to disqualify large numbers of eligible voters on pretextual grounds. Hacking of the data also poses a massive privacy risk and, according to Michael Chertoff, secretary of Homeland Security in the Bush administration, a national security risk, as well. While some states have already stood up to Trump’s sham commission, many have agreed to partially comply. We need each and every state to reject this unprecedented request entirely.

Joe has allowed critical vehicular traffic lanes to be converted to mostly unused bike lanes in San Pedro, creating excessive gridlock where once there was a smooth flow of traffic. Numerous complaints from impacted citizens consistently fall on deaf ears. He does not listen to complaints and has insulated himself from virtually any contact with his constituency. Inappropriate, unwanted bike lanes recently inflicted on Playa Del Rey are being dismantled after public outcry. We deserve better, an elected representative who will serve the constituency instead of his own ends.

We believe the current law for fireworks should remain as is. 3 days out of the year we are allowed to celebrate our independence. There are people trying to get the act repealed and we don't agree with that. If you repeal this law, we will also lose all the revenue created by it. People will go out of state to spend their money on fireworks. It personally affects me because we should all have the right to celebrate our independence. We all try to abide by the laws for the times we can light them and safety. Please do not repeal the Act.

I feel concerned about the fact that voter data is being requested from all 50 states when we have not secured our election system from hacking by foreign entities. Therefore, Michigan's Secretary of State should refuse to give any voter data to the federal government.
