After the heinous acts of hatred we have seen this past weekend, the White House can no longer passively condone white supremacists by harboring Steve Bannon, a hatemonger, in its ranks.

Because our LEADERS need to take a public stand against hatred and bigotry in all shapes and sizes. Demand that Congress INSIST that Trump participate in person

At a press conference on August 15, 2017, Donald Trump doubled down on his vile refusal to condemn white supremacist terrorism in Charlottesville, VA. He said that there were "fine people" in the white supremacist rally and blamed "both sides" for the violence and hate witnessed on all of our TV screens. Former KKK grand wizard David Duke said what he saw in Charlottesville, VA: that it "fulfills the promises of Donald Trump." White supremacists, neo-Nazis, and members of the "alt-right," chanted "Heil Trump!" while marching through the streets of Charlottesville; they injured dozens of demonstrators. The rally led to an act of domestic terrorism that killed a woman peacefully standing up to white supremacy. But all that Trump could muster in response was one weak statement where he seemed to call out the white supremacist movement. Yet, he also tweeted a picture of a "Trump Train" smashing into a CNN reporter, which bore a chilling resemblance to this weekend's brutal terrorist attack. And then at a press conference, he, once again, blamed bigotry and violence on "many sides." Trump's response is horrifying and unacceptable, which is why we're calling on Congress to formally censure him for refusing to explicitly call out white supremacy and call it terrorism. House members can sign on to a resolution to formally censure that has been introduced by Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman, Rep. Pramila Jayapal, and Rep. Jerrold Nadler. Censure is a formal, public statement of disapproval that requires a vote by Congress. A bipartisan vote would send a strong message to Trump and the world that his behavior is unacceptable and doesn't represent American values. Several Republicans have spoken out already. That's a start, but it's not enough. Why won't Trump condemn these white supremacist terrorists? Is it because they're part of the coalition that got him elected? Is it because he has advisers in his White House who are close to these hateful and violent groups? Is it because his campaign fueled the climate in which hate groups like these thrive and commit violence in the open? Congress must vote to formally censure Trump. We must show that Americans speak with one voice in rejecting the alt-right, neo-Nazis, and white supremacists by formally censuring Trump in both houses of Congress.

Trump emboldened white supremacists even more with his statement about the violence in Charlottesville. His statement lifts up the wrong people and harms our whole country in the process. We need a bipartisan show of support in Congress against his response, with enough power behind it to reassure vulnerable and other Americans anxious and angry about emboldened bigots.

Since he started his election campaign with his speech about "Mexican rapists", Trump has exacerbated ethnic tensions in the United States, further polarizing Americans instead of bringing us together as a true leader should. It is clear that the only way he will stop this divisive behavior is by resigning as President.

Last night white nationalists marched through Charlottesville communities and the University of Virginia campus, rallying around a statue of the Confederacy and carrying torches evoking a history of violent racial terrorism. The next day in Charlottesville they killed in the name of their white supremacist symbols. Peaceful protesters were rammed by a car killing someone. Emboldened by Trump and compelled to act by the movement to remove these symbols of hate white supremacists are now acting to intimidate us from removing these symbols of white supremacy. Since Dylann Roof massacred churchgoers at Mother Emanuel AME, we have been organizing around the nation to remove symbols of the Confederacy from any place of honor in America. In response, white supremacists are rallying around Confederate statues and using them as a pretext to commit terrorism and murder. White supremacists terrorists are working to intimidate us from confronting and reckoning with the legacy of the Confederacy. We cannot allow these white supremacist terrorists to intimidate us from confronting and working to dismantle systemic white supremacy. Confederate statues are a symbol of white supremacy and its current political power. Terrorists in Charlottesville understood this and were willing to kill in the name of their symbol, we must be determined to persist in the face of this white supremacist terror. We must work to end the influence of today's White supremacists, removing all Confederate statues would be the first step in sending the message that we are no longer honoring white supremacy at a societal level. We've already seen progress in Tampa and New Orleans, where Confederate symbols are being removed by Black-led organizing in the face of sustained white supremacist opposition. A state of emergency was declared this weekend in Charlottesville, Virginia, after hundreds of white supremacists, neo-nazis, and members of the "alt-right" terrorized the city with toxic hate, fear, and violence. With Donald Trump refusing to condemn the white supremacist hate and violence on open display this weekend, we need to show each other, as people in the United States, that together we are ready to stand against and denounce white supremacy and the ideas that fueled the violence in Charlottesville this weekend. Moral leadership starts at the top. For the people of this nation to have faith in the strength of their congressional leaders, members of Congress must call for the removal of anyone associated with racist, alt-right groups from the White House.

By passing this law, it would help the special prosecutor flip persons of interest. It would prevent guilty people who are related to the president from the consequences and penalties based on their crimes. And would stop future abuses of power.
