After unconstitutionally refusing to allow a hearing for the legal Supreme Court nomination of Merrick Garland, it would be even more despicable of Senate Republicans to invoke the "nuclear option" in order to remove the 60 vote threshold for Supreme Court nominations and to rush through Neil Gorsuch's confirmation. Such a nomination should never be rushed or forced through Congress, but it is especially inappropriate when the President who made the nomination, and his administration, are under investigation by the FBI. Upon investigation, I have not been able to determine when Congressman Rogers last held a public town hall or if he has, in his 36-year tenure, ever held a public town hall. The Lone Star State has been in the news a lot for our partisan maps that slice and dice cities into multiple State Legislative and Congressional Districts. We support the creation of a truly independent redistricting commission would shield Texas from federal oversight. Donald Trump has issued Executive Orders demanding the EPA and other government agencies move backwards on all of the progress we've made to protect the climate over the past several years. Agencies are being ordered to ignore the impacts of carbon pollution, begin leasing coal mining rights on federal land, and -- perhaps worst of all -- the EPA is being ordered to dismantle its landmark climate protections, the Clean Power Plan. Once again, we find ourselves with an out-of-control Trump Administration ignoring science, public opinion, and sound public policy to help their buddies in the fossil fuel industry. We can't let them get away with this. Only an outpouring of public outrage can help turn the tide and defend the climate. We've seen it happen with the attempted Muslim ban, and we saw it last week with the disastrous attempt to repeal health care reform. Stand up, together, and we can defend our progress on climate change and continue our climate leadership.
