In light of the tragic and wholly anti-democratic events of January 6, 2021, the creation of this Day of Democracy would help us ensure that actions such as the siege of the US Capitol Building will never be repeated, and that the ideals of democracy continue to be the core values upon which we build a more just, compassionate, and unified nation for all.

As a mom I believe that my job is to lead by example in my words and actions. It is our civic duty to hold our leaders accountable for their actions. I do not believe that the 45th President deserves any place of honor or special recognition for the reason that he has divided this nation and incited insurrection.

Because she has called for Trump’s resignation and is a liberal Republican who has questioned her being in the party on multiple occasions. She said that if the Republican Party is the party of Trump, that party isn’t for her. We should encourage her to be at least an independent.

The assault on January 6th, 2021 to our Nation's congress and our Capitol Building was an aberration, and a direct threat to our democracy. This violent attack was instigated by Mr. Trump and Mr. Trump Jr.. The rioters attempted to destroy the institutions that make us the strongest democracy in the world. These rioters displayed Neo-nazi, racist, and fascist symbols. As more footage of the incident is brought to light, we all are witnessing the violent nature of the groups that forced themselves into The People's House. A police officer was murdered and four other people died in this violent event. It is one of the darkest days in the history of our country. We must make sure that his name is not glorified in any way, because if we do not act we will have normalized the behavior Mr. Trump and his rioting mob of followers displayed. We Chicagoans and Americans ask you to do what is in your power to remove the sign that is now a stain to a city we are proud to call home. Thank you.

On January 6th, 2021, a violent mob of Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to block the U.S. Congress from certifying Joe Biden's election as President of the United States. Thanks to poisonous right-wing propaganda from Fox News and others, millions of Americans now believe the total lie that Donald Trump won the 2020 elections. There is zero evidence to support this propaganda, and U.S. courts have repeatedly rejected such claims. It is time to hold corporate advertisers and right-wing donors publicly accountable. We must stop their support for insurrectionist politicians and propaganda platforms that threaten the survival of our democracy.

Why is this important? TWO DAYS AGO, THE US CAPITOL WAS ON LOCKDOWN AS JOSH HAWLEY SIGNALED, WITH RAISED FIST, HIS ENCOURAGEMENT TO THE INSURRECTIONSTS, AND EVEN SENT OUT A FUND-RAISING EMAIL. HE, ALONG WITH TED CRUZ, PROMPTED REPUBLICAN LEGISLATORS TO STATED THEIR CONVICTION THAT CERTIFYING THE VOTES OF THE PEOPLE “IS A PROFOUND THREAT TO THIS COUNTRY AND TO THE LEGITIMACY OF ANY ADMINISTRATIONS THAT WILL COME IN THE FUTURE”. “EVEN AS TEMPERATURES ROSE AND EVEN AS TRUMP ENCOURAGED MASSIVE PROTESTS AT THE CAPITOL IN AN EFFORT TO PRESSURE LEGISLATORS, HAWLEY DID EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO DISRUPT THE CERTIFICATION OF THE LEGAL ELECTION. HIS ACTIONS HAVE INSPIRED • ARMED STANDOFF IN THE CAPITOL CHAMBERS • EVACUATING CHAMBERS • MEMBERS OF CONGRESS SHELTERING IN PLACE

Opposing our representational democracy’s standard norms, in this case, is seditious.

As long as a large national platform like Parler is allowed to spread incendiary rhetoric, attacks on our government and country are likely.

Ted Cruz has disgraced the state of Texas and the republican party. His ousting will benefit not only the state of Texas, the republican party of texas, but the entire US population.

Unless this is done, laws become a lie and the democracy is well and truly dead. Unless this is done, you create a schism between power and the powerless that is too deep to heal; our brothers and sisters of color, our women, will never trust, will never stop fighting to create equality, and there will never be peace. Ever. Unless this is done, you confirm the ability of another dictator to take the White House, and you allow the Senators who care only for their own skins to keep perpetuating the violence and lack of morality to continue. And you simply kill our country.

Cynthia Lummis, (R) Senator of Wyoming, was sworn to affirm that she would support and defend the constitution. This oath is required by the constitution, to which - Senator Lummis - has broken the laws to which thereof.

As a Kansan, I was disturbed that the United States Senator elected to represent me would take part in an effort to overthrow the election of another state. If my vote is to count, my elected representatives must trust the state and local officials whose job it is to accurately conduct, count, and audit each election. Regardless of the outcome of the election, Senator Marshall's actions set a dangerous precedent for our nation's democracy that anyone's vote may not count so long as enough U.S. Senators object at the point of certification. This is a violation of the United States Constitution and amounts to an attempt to overthrow the Government of the United States. Senator Marshall presented no substantiated evidence to support his actions, and instead used conjecture, conspiracy theories, and lies to support his claims. Without verified evidence of election fraud, Senator Marshall's actions amount to an act of sedition, and for that he should be expelled. The First Amendment gives me the right to petition the United States Government for a redress of grievances, and as his constituent, I petition the United States Senate to hold Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas accountable for his actions.
