• Clean Campaign Funding
Repeating the same election process without changing how they are funded means the same old results with new names. Lets change the way, not the limit, campaigns are funded. The S.Court ruled in 1976 limits on campaign funding is anti-free speech. But the states can required all campaign funding on every level including Federal to be directed to a state account for that election contest, and then equally divided among all running candiates. No limits, equal funding, blind sources, no payback strings attached funding.

  • CONGRESS: We're not paying you until you start doing your job!!!
I'd like to find out what would happen if we, the people, the 99% of the United States, decided NOT to pay FEDERAL INCOME TAX this year? Put it in an escrow account until the CONGRESS starts to do the work it was elected to do. After all, we wouldn't pay the lawn men to talk about mowing the lawn and then cut down the vegetable garden, would we?

  • For Takoma Park Residents: Lower the Voting Age in Takoma Park to 16
As a teenager, it's hard to connect to national politics when all that seems to come out of Washington D.C. is bad news. At the local level, it's an entirely different story. Teens turn to local government for a high quality of education, insurance of safety, job opportunities, and much more. At age 16, a teenager is old enough to work to support his/her own family and afford his/her own future. At age 16, one gains driving privileges. At age 16, one can be tried for certain crimes and pay certain taxes. At age 16, one should be allowed to vote in local elections. It's time to take a step towards youth enfranchisement and allow 16 and 17 year olds to vote in Takoma Park, Maryland in local elections. Please contact Ben Feshbach ([email protected]) or Tim Male, the sponsor of this initiative on the Takoma Park City Council ([email protected]) for more information. Notice: please only sign this petition if you are a Takoma Park resident.

  • President Obama: Don't Appoint Villaraigosa
After Mayor Villaraigosa joined "Fix the Debt," I started a petition asking him to leave the group because of their efforts to gut Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. I received over 22,000 signatures (14,000 on SignOn and the rest through the PCCC). Now the media is discussing Mayor Villaraigosa for a possible appointment in the Obama administration. Mayor Villaraigosa ignored us. He didn't care what we had to say. He was willing to ignore his constituents to pander to corporate interestes. His disregard for engaged citizens and all working and middle class families make him an unacceptable choice for a position in President Obama's cabinet. Villaraigosa has ignored the people who helped to get him elected and has presided over budget cuts and service reductions that disproportionately effect the working poor: The Metropolitan Transportation Authority cut nearly 1 million hours of service (citing efficiency) at the expense of working class residents who overwhelming rely on public transportation. African American transit activists fault Villaraigosa for not fighting for a Leimert Park stop, the heart of black culture in Los Angeles, on the Crenshaw Rail line. These are just a few examples of how Villaraigosa has balanced the budget on the backs of hard working Angelenos, and there are many more. We are asking President Obama to not appoint Villaraigosa to a position in his administration.

  • Incentivize Congressional Salaries
The US Congress is employed by the citizens of America to represent their legislative interests. Perhaps they might better serve the people; if their salaries reflected the average income of the citizens they represent. When they do a better job; average income would increase; and, they would be rewarded. When they did not do so well; they would not be paid so well. Also, this approach would make them better citizen advocates, as such would be in their own financial interest.

  • Pay Congress only for the days they work
Congress takes entirely too many vacation days and accomplishes entirely too little for the pay we citizens provide. This should change.

  • Washington no longer works for the people
Congress has become a non functioning body that has stopped working for the American people. It has become a congress for special interest groups and lead by only a few who don't belong to congress. It's no longer a government of the people for the people.

  • A Law to Restore Democracy in the Senate and the House of Representatives
Please take a look at the following petition submitted to Whitehouse.gov. The intent is to restore democracy within the Congress. I request that you help move this petition forward and help restore democracy and sanity to the Congress of the United States. It is anti-democratic, a concentrated abuse of power, and a frustration of the will of the American people to allow a minority of Congress to prevent bills and appointments from being voted on in Congress. A simple remedy is clearly needed. https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/law-restore-democracy-senate-and-house-representatives/X3Q1TfMn we petition the obama administration to: A Law to Restore Democracy in the Senate and the House of Representatives 1) Any Senator or group of Senators may call a final vote on any bill before the Senate in the last 30 scheduled days of every annual session of the Senate. 2) Any Congressman of group of Congressmen may call a final vote on any bill before the House of Representatives in the last 30 scheduled days of every annual session of the House of Representatives. 3) Any Senator or group of Senators may call a final vote on a Presidential appointment any time 30 days or more after the President submits a Presidential appointment.
