Gov. Nixon, appoint Russ Carnahan to 8th DistrictLast year the Missouri legislature gerrymandered the congressional districts, dividing up the 3rd District, pitting two Democrats against each other in a shrunken 1st District in St. Louis and expanding the 8th District from the southern part of the St. Louis area all the way to the Bootheel border with Arkansas. Russ Carnahan had ably represented the 3rd District, but he was shoved out of a job by the redistricting. Immediately after the November election Jo Ann Emerson, (R-Cape Girardeau) who was elected to an eighth term as congresswoman from the 8th District, announced she was resigning. Gov. Nixon may appoint a successor to the seat until the election in June. He should appoint Russ Carnahan, who served 4 terms in Congress before his district was effectively carved up into oblivion. Carnahan would continue his excellent service to our state and maintain continuity for Missouri constituents. He'd be a great choice in June, too, but that's up to the voters.17 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Virginia Gilbert

CONGRESS, MUST BE ON SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICAREIt appears to me that Congress have voted themselves into PlutocratsThey have forgotten what it is like to be a Middle Class American. Maybe if their retirement was what many of their constitutes are dependent on they would be less willing to cut and gut Medicare and Social Security. OR Maybe they should be willing to give each U.S. citizen their retirement?17 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Kay J. Van Houten

Stop the LobbyingLobbying is the seat of corruption in our government. It gets between the people and their elected officials and it leads to our leaders ignoring their constituents and going with the highest bidding lobbyist. This is NOT part of a democratic process.18 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Beverly Barrick

Common Sense GovernmentOur government system is dated & destroying our country & citizens. The reality is no government which has 2 or more opposing parties will ever be in harmony for the sole purpose of doing what is right for the people and country as 1. Common sense tells one that when there are 2 parties competing for power, the people & country suffer the consequences of their struggle to have the upper hand over the other.1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Richard Vultaggio

Stop Republican Power Grab of Important State CommissionsStop the bill that would allow the Republican governor and legislature to remove current members and make their own appointments to the N.C. Utilities Commission, Coastal Resources Commission, Coastal Resources Advisory Board, Environmental Management Commission, and the North Carolina Turnpike Authority. The proposed bill also eliminates 12 special superior court judges, changes the makeup of the state Board of Elections, and modifies the composition of the state Lottery Commission. Years of experience would be lost while the Republican governor and legislature appointed cronies to these important boards.9,213 of 10,000 SignaturesCreated by Donna Bravo

Study cost/benefit of cannabis regulation vs. deregulationIf the deregulation of cannabis would result in greater economic benefit to the state by taxing the income from production and sales than creating new regulatory and taxing agencies and bureaucracy, than it seems that we could be following a simpler path.4 of 100 SignaturesCreated by martin schiller

Save Our Post Office New YorkOur goal is to save the U.S. Postal Service from drastic cuts in service. We want the postal service to cease closing mail processing plants. We want the postal service to continue 6 day delivery and we want the postal service to stop closing post offices and cutting retail operating hours. Our goal is to see the dramatic pre payments into retirement accounts to stop and be returned to the postal service. We are proud of our postal network in New York and want to keep it the way it is.788 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Jerry Stidman

FIRE TORSTEN WERNER, Mendocino County Animal Control OfficerThis person, Animal Control Officer, Torsten Werner Took the National Reptile Foundations Tortoises, 3 large all male Sulcata tortoises to the animal care part of AC & C. They were not properly fed, or taken care of and were left in a pen outside that was contaminated with goat poo. fed broccoli ! ( that is toxic to tortoises!) and other veggies that are not on their diet. They only needed orchard hey. So all of them developed the runns. We got our tortoises back, however They closed down the National Reptile Foundation in conjunction with building and planning, BECAUSE i had a 501c3 non profit org..... I was required to have a commercial kennel license, AND they could not give me a commercial kennel license BECAUSE I live in the COASTAL ZONE. Other targets and other people have complained about him taking pit bulls, and having them euthanized, and terrorizing little children with a poor choice of words, and more recently the confiscation of a herd of piggs. taken for no reason, but Animal care wants $1,000.00 from the owner before returning them, or they will be destroyed. I have left the other peoples names out of this petition, but they will gladly tell you all about it if you ask me how to get in touch with them. you can send me an email to [email protected] Officer Torsten Werner manhandles animals to the point of abuse, and seemingly enjoys harassing the owners. After an encounter with this Mendocino County Animal Control Officer, you're left shaking, scared, angry, and abused. He is known for jumping to conclusions, and presents him self as an expert in handling animals, while making you feel like a prisioner who knows nothing, or worse; the scum of the earth. An encounter with this Mendocino County Animal control Officer will undoubtedly change your life forever. You will never see Animal Control the same way ever again. Please sign this petition to have Torsten Werner fired from the position of Animal Control Officer, with the Mendocino County Department of Animal Control. There seems to be a trend of officer Werner to confiscate animals, for no reason. Then when the animals are vet checked, there is nothing wrong with them, but cost the owner several hundreds or thousands to get out of the "Animal care part of Animal care & control" Torsten Werner needs to be fired, He is creating hate and discontent, to the animal owning residents of Mendocino county. He uses a bad chioce of words in delicate situations,..... taking animals with out merrit, and complicating the lives of the animals, and their owners. the funny thing is when officer Torsten Werner is WITH another officer, he has better manners, and doesn't take as many animals in. When Torsten Werner is alone, he has a different attitude towards the people and their animals. Just so you know...... IF any officer is addressing you alone, YOU CAN request for another officer to be present. It is the LAW. Thank you.119 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Lisa Chiapero

Hawaii Legislature: Implement Statewide Clean ElectionsDuring the 1978 Constitutional Convention, delegates fought hard to create the partial public funding program that we now have. Delegate Naomi Campbell said during that Convention: " . . . if we think these tremendous sums being spent [on elections], these tremendous sums being contributed, are not sums for which we are going to ultimately pay because of poor government . . . and because of undue influence . . . we are fooling ourselves." We have let the partial public funding program decay over the past 30 years, and along with it our best chance at a truly functioning lawmaking arena. We need to break the cycle, and have the courage to save this program that delegates fought for in 1978.154 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Eric Ming
