• Host a Town Hall During Recess: Representative Michael McCaul
Recess is a time for members of Congress to return to their home states. They should be using this week to meet with their constituents, give space for their concerns, and take that back to D.C. Instead, House Republican leaders are now reportedly telling their offices to avoid holding public events when they are home for March recess. This is the opposite of the directions Democrats are receiving—with Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries encouraging all members to connect directly with constituents to talk about the Republican-backed attacks on key services like Social Security and Medicaid embodied by Elon Musk's actions and the Republican budget.  Rep. Michael McCaul was elected to represent us—they should not be hiding from their constituents. Period.  Add your name to the petition to demand Rep. Michael McCaul host a town hall or public office hours during the congressional recess!

  • Rep. Miller-Meeks, Don't Hide From Constituents. Host Town Halls!
Town halls are ways for constituents to provide feedback directly to their elected officials to make sure that their concerns and expectations are heard.  When Republicans returned to their districts in February, they were met with the full force of their constituents’ frustrations. They should be taking in that feedback and returning to D.C. to do their job addressing the needs, concerns, and demands of the people they were elected to represent. But instead, they're planning on hiding from their constituents in the upcoming recess, while they continue to ram through Trump and Musk’s wildly unpopular and disastrous plans, slashing services and funding that everyday people need, and giving tax breaks to their billionaire friends. Not on our watch.  We need to remind members of Congress who they answer to.  Not Trump.  Not Musk.  Not just a few billionaires.  Earlier this month more than 75+ MoveOn members from Iowa District 1 urged local representatives to host town halls. But we have to keep up the pressure. Sign the petition to make it clear to Congress that come recess, we expect them to host town halls and office hours, because they answer to the people.

  • Demand a Town Hall From Representative Bill Huizenga
This petition is critical because Representative Huizenga has shown a lack of accountability and disregard for the needs and concerns of his constituents. Rather than representing the people of Michigan's Fourth District, he continues to align himself with an authoritarian president, without considering how this loyalty harms our communities and the nation at large. For nearly eight years, Representative Huizenga has avoided in-person communication with his district, leaving us in the dark about his positions and decisions. He is hiding from his constituents because he is afraid to face the consequences of his actions — and the result is a failure to meet his basic responsibility as our elected representative. Congressional recesses are meant to be an opportunity for representatives to engage with their communities. It is a time for them to listen to the concerns of the people they serve, yet Representative Huizenga continues to avoid these vital conversations, choosing instead to remain loyal to a dangerous political agenda rather than engaging with the people who put him in office. We, the people of Michigan's Fourth District, demand to be heard. We deserve transparency, accountability, and a representative who listens to us — not someone who hides behind closed doors or puts his party loyalty above the needs of his community. This petition is not just about the refusal of a town hall; it's about the responsibility of an elected official to be transparent, accessible, and accountable. We will no longer allow our concerns to be ignored, and we will not allow our representative to turn a blind eye to the harm caused by his actions.

  • Tyranny or Town Hall? Demand Mark Amodei hold a town hall for constituents.
While republicans may be receiving "marching orders" to avoid town halls, it is up to us, the people, to demand them and to ensure members of congress who support the current administration answer to their actions and the impact it will have on individuals and community alike.

  • Distracted Driving Kills!
On Sept 11th, 2022, at 12:45 am, my 26yr old daughter, Hanahn Mystique Benitez, was struck and killed by a driver who just said he " saw nothing" and was not charged with anything. Not even a ticket. My daughter was almost seven months pregnant with a baby girl that she was naming Winter. She was struck on the eastbound side of 347 & Terryville Rd. She was wearing a bright yellow hoodie and was a few feet from the crosswalk. She had already passed almost all the way across the two lanes from a very lit up area coming off the sidewalk from a car dealership corner when the driver struck her from his front left side of his vehicle, and he said he "saw nothing! The driver that killed them made it a point to tell the officers that he is a head nurse at Stony Brook hospital. He hit her so hard that the impact flew her over the metal divider and threw her to the westbound side traffic and she was then hit by two other cars *as per the witness’s statement whose car was facing west and was waiting at the left turn lane. The witness saw everything even though he was facing the opposite direction. How did the killer see "nothing". Was he distracted by something in his car? The police failed to inform me of the driver’s actions before and at the time of impact. The driver was not given a breathalyzer, asked to take a toxicology test, his phone was not looked at (that I know of because it’s not in the incident report), his speed was not documented, and he was NOT made accountable for his actions. When the detectives came to my house that morning to inform me that my daughter and granddaughter had passed, one detective simply stated that it was an accident. How could they come to that conclusion without a thorough investigation yet? It sounded more like it was a vehicular manslaughter. He walked away and she didn’t. This tragedy has devastated her family, her twin brother, and friends.

  • Replace "God Bless America" on Fire Station with a more inclusive message!
This issue is particularly significant in light of the growing influence of certain religious groups seeking to assert greater control over governmental policies and the personal lives of individuals. While the action we are proposing may seem small, it serves as an important statement about the value of religious equality and the need to protect the principle of separation between religion and government. It demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their faith, are treated with respect and fairness. Furthermore, it affirms our resolve to stand up for these principles and to advocate for a society where religious freedoms are upheld for everyone.
