Jeffrey Hazen has started a petition to ask you to legalize state wide referendums. To my knowledge the legislature of Wisconsin can bring an issue to a statewide referendum only in the case of an amendment to the constitution of the state of Wisconsin. This is how it should be. Giving citizens the legal right to propose laws begs the question of why we would even have a legislative branch of our government. The point of representative democracy is so that we the people of the state of Wisconsin can elect supposed experts to write consistent, well thought out laws. When citizens, many of whom are not experts on law, are given the legal right to propose laws, there is a liability for inconsistent laws, poorly thought out laws, confusing laws, etc... If one merely looks at the example of California, one can see the abyss that direct democracy can lead. California has a petition signing industry. There are firms that cater to people who want to bring proposals to a state wide referendum. These firms charge for their services. Thus, the claim that direct democracy in the form of state wide referendums will dilute the power of money is laughable. Any corporation can pay a petition firm to get them enough signatures to get their desired proposal brought before the people. Then, the same sorts of propaganda that are used to get corrupt politicians elected will get their proposal passed. Citizen started statewide referendums do not dilute the power of money in our democracy. Further, when we look at California we notice that they haven't passed a budget on time in 5 years. They have seen budget deficits in the tens of billions of dollars consistently because the people are easily persuaded to increase services that the government offers them, but difficult to persuade to increase taxes in order to pay for those services. This has put California's entire economy in jeopardy. We don't need that in Wisconsin. The answer to our woes is not to give the people the power of a direct democracy.

Yet another fiscal showdown is about to begin and Republicans are bent on holding the economy hostage again to get their way. Republicans want to bully us into believing cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid benefits and other dangerous budget cuts are the only thing we should be talking about. Tell Speaker of the House John Boehner to focus on creating jobs, not hurting those most in need.

Congress and many state legislative bodies (House and Senate) are not representative of the voting public as a result of gerrymandering and our system of winner-take-all elections. Consequently, parties that receive less than a majority of the cumulative state-wide vote in elections for representatives end up holding a majority of the seats in the resultant body.

GOP are constantly addressing the need to reduce spending in government, wanting smaller government. I propose they all take a serious salary cuts along with diminishing their lifetime benefit package to better reflect those they represent. Allowing our representatives to get so far outside of our own earning potential has landed us in a situation where those that should represent us, instead resent us.

Over the years we come across alot of ex convicts reentering into society thats trying to find employment. The thing is some of these men and women who are looking for a job are highly educated, belong in a setting where they should be able to provide solutions to the communities problems. Some who have ideas and are fully equipped for council men and women positions in their communities in which they destroyed. The thing is no one wants hear there ideas or even give them a chance to help better their communities or lives so they resort back to criminal activity because they have families they have to feed. Some of these people even aquire degrees and still not able to utilize their skills. We have to help these men and women so they can be able to provide for their families. With all due respect they are people.

Congress passes laws that effect only themselves at the expense of the people. They deserve no more than we the people of the United States.

Secretary Clinton should be considered as a candidate for Supreme Court Justice.

replace Representative Darryl Issa from California, waisting money on frivolus investigations, accusations slowing progress in the house of representatives and in the senate and for voting jobs out of california to give to other states the man is out of control and he has to go. he is waisting california assets and slowing down our recovery in the californian regios

Every gun must be registered and insured just as every automobile must be registered and insured to operate in each state. We have all been affected by wanton misuse of guns. Insurance premiums should reflect the potential harm of each weapon insured.

We are at a crossroads where the president has another fight with the OBSTRUCTIONISTS in the KKK TEA PARTY and GOP about raising the Debt Ceiling. We would like the president to use the power of the 14th amendment and avert this altogether and do whatever he feels necessary to get this country working again.

We are all negatively affected by this corruption, except of course, the corrupters and the corruptees.....
