The pro-gun lobby is working hard to advance national legislation that would force states to recognize concealed-carry permits from all over the country, regardless of how lax the permitting standards in other states. And some states have lax standards indeed: A Sun-Sentinel investigation found that Florida had issued concealed-carry licenses to 1,400 people convicted of crimes, as well as to hundreds more applicants with warrants, domestic abuse injunctions, or gun violations.[1] And North Carolina, from 2007 to 2011, issued 2,400 conceal-carry permits to people convicted of crimes, including some who committed murder or manslaughter.[2] If mandated national concealed-carry legislation becomes law, it would allow dangerous, high-risk gun owners to go wherever they like with their firearms. The legislation would also encourage such gun owners from around the country to converge on states with loose permitting standards in order to easily get concealed-carry licenses that would have to be honored nationally. Furthermore, individual states would no longer be able to control who is authorized to carry a concealed gun within its borders. Police would not even be able to quickly find out if out-of-state permits are valid, putting law enforcement and the public at higher risk of harm. Mandated national conceal-carry would gut commonsense gun safety laws that parents worked hard to pass in states across our nation. Americans are already about 20 times more likely to be killed by a gun than someone from another developed country. Now is not the time to weaken commonsense safety standards or states' rights! Since the gun restriction laws are floundering. perhaps we should at least keep Gun magazines off the shelves. My 5 year old nephew brought one to his Dad while they were shopping because it was strategically placed on the lowest rack in the store. He was drawn to the picture on the front. These magazines promote excessive weapons and should not be sold to minors.

I believe recent events at Michigan schools involving emotionally unstable individuals carrying lethal weapons have traumatized students and interfered with their educations. Families fear for the safety of their students at school, and some have decided their children would be safer at private institutions, and plan to withdraw their children from public schools, fearing their students could be shot and killed in one of these incidents. In essence, Michigan students are being bullied, and denied their own civil rights, by a small minority of individuals maintaining their supposed Constitutional rights, and a legislature that's been bullied into submission by the NRA.

His job is to keep us safe, not to weaken our strong gun safety laws. He needs to do his job.

I am doing this because I hear stories about kids and inexperienced firearm users/owners getting hurt or killed by guns every day. I know that if there is training for gun owners and some children, there will be fewer gun accidents in the state Maryland. Guns may not be the number one cause of death in Maryland, but it is still a very important issue and I think it is a perfect time for Maryland to change.

I signed Aileen Luppert's MoveOn petition to ban guns in libraries, and MoveOn asked me to start a local petition in my legislative district. I'm frightened for Aileen's safety, and the safety of all library patrons.

In the Newtown shooting Adam Lanza, a mentally unstable 20 year old, killed 20 1st grade students and 6 women with an assault rifle which his mother bought. If we as a nation tighten gun laws, lives could be saved. A two minute background check could have saved those lives. Aren't those lives worth those two minutes? I am hoping that congress will consider the following options: Fingerprint technology to unlock guns. Limits on assault weapons. Limit the number of bullets (rounds) in a clip to 10. 24 hour waiting period to buy a gun. Place limits on the ability of the mentally ill to purchase guns. Please consider signing my petition.

Washington is an open carry state. The only public institutions where firearms are prohibited are schools, courthouses, jails, mental hospitals, and bars. Washington Courts ruled that public institutions, like libraries, may not ban guns. Courts also ruled that the only way to ban firearms at facilities in which children gather is through legislative action. The purpose of this petition and campaign is to demand Washington state legislators amend RCW 9.41.300 to add public libraries to the list of institutions where firearms are prohibited.
