  • SUPPORT THE EMERGENCY DECLARATION FOR HAWAII ISLAND
On January 29, 2016 Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard urged Hawaii State Governor David Ige to declare a state of emergency to combat the current outbreak of dengue fever on Hawaii Island. This declaration, if acted up on by our governor, will release the full force of federal funding necessary to combat the growing threat of dengue and other mosquito-borne viruses. This is about the big picture, especially as zika makes the headlines internationally and is now a looming threat to the state of Hawaii. As long as the presence of the aedes mosquito populations are allowed to be prevalent, this threat will always be hanging over our heads. We have the opportunity to be a model for the world’s communities, to show how to develop and fight the spread of these highly infectious diseases now and in the future for both our Hawaii residents and visitors. A state of emergency will give residents and visitors a sense of relief that something significant is being done in the long term to ensure that our Island is a safe place to live and visit. Please sign this petition so that the voices of Hawaii Island are heard loud and clear. Hawaii Dengue Fever Awareness

  • Support Our New Hospital’s Success with Urgently Needed Bridge Financing
The good news for the people of West Sonoma County is that our new community hospital is flourishing. In just three short months since reopening, business has surpassed expectations. The in-patient daily census at Sonoma West Medical Center (SWMC), which averages nearly 14 people a day, continues to rise, and is already 50% higher than Palm Drive Hospital was during the year before it closed. The no-wait emergency room is saving lives, with about 20 patients every day. More than 100 lab tests are being run daily, and surgeries have commenced. Locals say they feel safer and are relieved that they no longer have to face long hours of waiting in Santa Rosa hospitals. The humane, personal care that made Palm Drive the safest hospital in the entire State of California is back, and patients have never been happier. Unfortunately, millions of dollars of Medicare, Medi-Cal and private insurance reimbursements are facing long bureaucratic delays. The impact of this delayed reimbursement means that SWMC’s philanthropic reserves have been used up. Once reimbursement arrives, our hospital will be making the money it needs to be self-sustaining. But until then, SWMC will require bridge financing. That’s why the Friends of Sonoma West Medical Center have created this petition to urge the Palm Drive Health Care District Board members to fulfill their obligation to make sure that our precious hospital will not close while waiting to be paid for services rendered. To provide bridge financing during this critical time, we urge the District Board to advance our hospital $700,000 from its ample cash account, and to immediately request that the Board of Supervisors provide an emergency advance of one million dollars against this year’s tax revenue from the County Assessor’s office. After all, the tax Measure passed by 70% of voters in 2004 stated that the purpose of our parcel tax is “to ensure survival of Palm Drive Hospital and access to local emergency, acute care, medical and physician services, and provide for ongoing expenses, repair and improvements to equipment and technology.” Such County Assessor advances are frequently granted to help other County agencies and special districts overcome cash flow challenges. Less than two years ago, Sonoma County’s Board of Supervisors provided an emergency loan of $1.8 million to finance the closure of Palm Drive Hospital. During this critical period, the people of West Sonoma County have a more urgent need: bridge financing to ensure that our life-saving hospital stays open until the money it has earned comes in.

  • KFC: Help Save Antibiotics!
According to the CDC, more than 2 million Americans get sick from antibiotic-resistant infections each year, and 23,000 people die. Yet, more than 70 percent of antibiotics sold in the United States go to livestock and poultry operations, which routinely mix huge quantities of antibiotics into the feed of animals that aren’t sick. This practice increases the likelihood that all kinds of bacteria will develop resistance to antibiotics, meaning our life-saving medicines won't work. As the national Colonel of fried chicken, KFC has tremendous power to change the chicken market and put an end to this dangerous practice... but they won't do it unless they know that consumers demand it. Please, sign now!

  • Provide Flint residents with long-term care!
Michigan officials have failed residents of Flint, Michigan. A state-appointed emergency manager switched Flint’s water supply to the Flint River in an attempt to cut costs. The water from the Flint River needed treatment to make it drinkable, but officials didn’t want to spend the small amount of money necessary to treat it. Instead, they dismissed complaints about the water from Flint residents for months, as lead contaminated the city’s water. Now, thousands will deal with the effects of lead poisoning for the rest of their lives. Tell Michigan Governor Rick Snyder to ensure every affected citizen is provided with free long-term care.

  • Save us from the devastation of genital lichen sclerosus / sclerosis
Many lives are being devastated by the irreversible damage genital lichen sclerosus is causing. I have this disease and moderate a support group for it, so I know of its negative, life-changing effects. We need to know the cause and and at least have more medical professionals able to diagnosis and effectively treat LS - the average delay of diagnosis is two years because of misdiagnosis.
