• Stand for Health Care Fairness in Nebraska
Right now, Nebraska officials like Gov. Dave Heineman are blocking the expansion of Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. As a result, about 50,000 low-income Nebraskans will be left without access to health care – except through the high-cost emergency room. With Medicaid expansion, these Nebraskans will instead have access to cost-effective preventative care to keep them healthy and working. This federal investment will also return between $2.3 billion and $3.5 billion to Nebraska’s economy this decade. Our tax dollars are leaving our state regardless of whether or not Nebraska takes advantage of this new program -- and Medicaid expansion is the only way to bring them back from Washington It's time to do the right thing for our economy, our health care system, and for our neighbors by providing health care coverage for all Nebraskans. Expand Medicaid in Nebraska now.

  • Save the Orphan Drug Tax Credit
Our son passed away from a Rare Disease called Leigh's Disease. It is so important in the Rare Disease community that research continue so that some relief can come to those who suffer. And by claiming a tax credit of only 50% we may see drug manufacturers find orphan drugs to help treat patients with rare disease. Shortly after our son's death in 2010, EPI-743 went into clinical trials for those who were in final stages of Leigh's Disease. I'm sure that this would have never happened had it not been for the Orphan Drug Tax Credit!!!!

  • Thank you Rep. Lujan-Grisham for the HEAL Immigrant Women & Families Act!
Almost 20 years ago, politicians began passing harmful restrictions that put affordable health coverage out of reach for many immigrants authorized to live and work in the United States. Today, overly complex and restrictive policies deny access to health care for hardworking, taxpaying immigrant communities; these policies are harmful to immigrant women and families, are costly and counterproductive, and undermine shared values of fairness and equality of opportunity. The good news is we have champions in Congress who just introduced legislation to tackle this problem! Representative Michelle Lujan Grisham recently introduced the Health Equity & Access under the Law (HEAL) for Immigrant Women & Families Act of 2014. The HEAL Immigrant Women & Families Act would remove political interference so immigrants can participate in the health care programs their tax dollars support. By restoring access to coverage and allowing immigrant women and families to receive the health care they need, this bill will create healthier communities and a stronger economy. Immigrant women need this policy change. They are less likely to have access to employer-sponsored and private health coverage and are more likely to be low-income and of reproductive age. Under current policies, many lawfully present immigrant women are denied access to care and others are forced to wait 5 years or more before being able to participate. For a woman facing breast or cervical cancer, 5 years could be the difference between life and death. Immigrant women and families work hard, pay taxes, and contribute to our communities and our economy. They should have the same access to health care as their friends and neighbors.

  • Massachusetts: Label GMOs
The Food and Drug Administration does not require safety testing of new genetically modified foods (“GMOs”), instead relying on corporations' profits from the sale of such foods to ensure their safety for us. Contrary to industry claims, GMO foods have not been proven safe, and a growing body of independent, peer-reviewed studies have linked the consumption of GMO foods to allergies, infertility, immune problems, gastrointestinal disruption, cancer, and a host of other diseases. GMO crops can easily contaminate non-GMO crops, threatening organic agriculture, and their use is linked to increases in toxic pesticide use and the emergence of “superweeds.” Further, the absence of labeling of GMO foods and seeds prohibits those with specific ethical or religious practices from making informed food choices. More than 60 other countries around the world inform their citizens if their food is genetically engineered, and national polls consistently show that more than 90% of Americans want to share this same basic human right. GMO labeling legislation has been introduced in over 25 states, and on June 3, 2013, Connecticut passed a GMO labeling law - the first in the nation. But, it requires at least four other states to adopt similar legislation before it goes into effect. One state must border Connecticut. Massachusetts now has the opportunity to help protect the transparency, integrity, and democracy of our food supply for all Americans.

  • Congress: Don't Kill Medicare on March 31!
On March 31 a flawed Medicare formula, the Sustainable Growth Rate, will trigger a 24% physician payment cut. And, unless Congress takes swift action, Medicare patients and their doctors will be hit hard. Hard work by both Republicans and Democrats has produced a long-awaited, hard-fought policy framework putting Medicare on the path toward a stable, 21st-century program that can meet the growing health care needs of the nation's seniors. Over 250 congressmen have signed a letter supporting the bill that will prevent the massive Medicare cuts and fix the problem once and for all. They have advanced legislation that take significant steps toward allowing physicians and other health care providers to design systems of care that best serve their patient populations through new and innovative care delivery models. But politics-as-usual is getting in the way, and Congress is only weeks away from driving Medicare of this new fiscal cliff. We can't allow this process to stall and let this hard-work be for nothing! Tell Congress it’s time to stop putting off this problem with temporary, patch-work fixes and seize this opportunity to solve it. Let's repeal the SGR and move toward a Medicare program that supports physicians for providing high-quality patient-centered health care. Congress is working against a March 31 deadline, at which point the SGR formula calls for a 24 percent cut to physician payments. It's critical to maintain the momentum in Congress: Your voice could tip the balance to pass repeal this year. Join our campaign! Sign our petition and use the power of social media to spread our message throughout the online community and directly target elected officials to make SGR repeal a priority NOW.

  • Expand Medicaid In Indiana
As we know Tax Rates are very important as corporations within certain business districts rely on lower tax rates. When it comes to the ACA being enacted by Indiana not only Hoosiers are disappointed. Indiana effects surrounding states, as there will be no Region Specific Constraints on doing business. Governor Pence's refusal to approve expansion of medicaid will result in higher prices for all of us in Specific Regions, and the effects of that can be viewed as a undue "Tax because of Indiana." Understanding that under the ACA, when insurance rates in Indiana are higher than surrounding states, it undermines all the benefits we could achieve between 2016 -2020. Therefor its reasonable in the minds minds of most, for Alliances and Coalitions in Indiana and surrounding States should support this petition. The ultimate reason to support this petition: Under the ACA as we promote preventative care, and as we become less ill, less often, its only normal that "routine Care (in or out patient Care) would decrease and for some completely end. The more Americans are enrolled the lower medial should cost. Looking Forward: New and improved remedy's for stuff we never imagined, are now more available for what used to be termed "Terminal Illness" and ailments? We are now more positioned now than ever before in our history to eliminate tradition harmful treatments and leave a wonderful legacy for our children to carry on. Economy: As more routine Care become eliminated because of creating a healthier society, demands for very costly treatments will subside along with its Costs. Reduced health care cost creates competition for insurance company's and It's good for both families and the economy and Business and it will get harmful Drugs off the Market.. Please Sign and Share. Those who fall on hard times need a helping hand and its the Godly thing to do.Those who fall on hard times need a helping hand and its the Godly thing to do.

  • Sign the petition: MoveOn is right—Louisiana should expand Medicaid
MoveOn is putting pressure on Republicans who are blocking millions of low-income Americans from accessing quality health care by refusing to expand Medicaid. But Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal can’t stand the heat and the state is threatening legal action to stop MoveOn’s campaign. Last week, Louisiana Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne publicly demanded MoveOn take down a billboard that criticized Jindal for preventing 242,000 low-income Louisianans from accessing Medicaid as part of the Obamacare Medicaid expansion. Just days later, state officials threatened legal action again MoveOn. Sign the petition: Tell Bobby Jindal to expand Medicaid and stop the frivolous lawsuit threats.

  • The Madison Holleran Law
On January 17, 2014 a former co-student of my daughter took her own life. Madison Holleran was a freshman at U Penn, and she was also an extremely talented runner on U Penn's track team. Her suicide left a void in the hearts of so many people across the state. This law would allow us to keep Madison's legacy alive, and help other young adults from choosing suicide as a way of escaping the pressures of college expectations.

  • Senator Reid, listen to the people!
To provide many people, like my sister who is now battling breast cancer for a second time, the legal means to obtain medication that would allow her to eat and become healthy enough to battle this disease without throwing up after every meal while removing the fear of losing their jobs causing them to be without health care and benefits while they fight to recover.
