Florida is facing a public health emergency, and DeSantis is doing nothing to protect our families. The State Board of Education and the Governor have nevertheless ruled that private school vouchers will be expanded, and districts that violate the mandate will lose state funding. This is how our state's governor plans to enforce his mask mandate ban in schools. The truth is that the governor seems to be merely playing politics. In collaboration with county health professionals, schools and students must determine the optimal procedures for safeguarding students and ensuring they receive the necessary support. The absurdity of DeSantis is on full display with recent news. DeSantis signed an executive order allowing parents to decide whether or not their children should wear masks, many Florida school districts still insist that students wear them. And now, Broward and Alachua school districts were sanctioned by the Florida Board of Education for violating Governor Ron DeSantis' order banning masks in schools. As a result of the decision, districts that mandated the use of masks early in the school year faced their first round of consequences for mandating them. Richard Corcoran, the state Education Commissioner, announced Monday that state funds have been withheld from Alachua and Broward county school districts. The ways in which DeSantis is strapping educators' hands in protecting our teachers and students is unacceptable. Even more troubling is DeSantis' claim that Regeneron is the solution to Covid-19, instead of effective social distancing and mask usage. But this just further highlights DeSantis’ ulterior motives. Among DeSantis' largest benefactors is Citadel, a Chicago-based hedge fund that owns 15.9 million Regeneron shares. Ken Griffin, CEO of Citadel Investment Group, has donated $10.75 million to a political party that supports Ron DeSantis - $5.75 million in 2018 and $5 million in April 2021. Regeneron was promoted at four events by DeSantis in one week. Since announcing the vaccine passport ban in May, he has failed to hold a public event that explicitly promotes vaccines. DeSantis' ulterior motives are clear. It's time to tell DeSantis not to use our children and our communities as political pawns. Florida needs a mask mandate in every county that is experiencing a positivity rate above 5% and/or a hospital bed occupancy rate above 85%. Indoor, 3 feet or less spaced, unmasked eating is a dangerous proposition. Science tells us this. Our local laws and federal government underscore this (pre-vaccine) by limiting and temporarily closing indoor dining when community spread rates were high. Implementing new and sudden protocols may be inconvenient - and even expensive, but in the final analysis, it is the right thing to do for the health of our students, our schools, and our community. * There are elementary school principals fully on board and supportive of this effort and for that, we are encouraged.

Student and teacher mask mandates are proven effective at minimizing the transmission of COVID-19. However, mask enforcement is difficult, and students and teachers remove masks when eating and drinking throughout the school day. Therefore, the mask mandate must be supplemented by COVID-19 vaccination among those teachers, students, and visitors eligible to receive the vaccination. This mandate should extend to COVID-19 booster eligibility. Proof of vaccination must be enforced and should not be self-reported. If proof of vaccination and a mask mandate are not implemented, not only will students, teachers, and their families experience needless deaths and disabilities, but our courts will also become clogged with families litigating against school districts over their alleged negligence during this time. Juries will not be forgiving to negligent school districts, and taxpayers will pay compensation to victims and victim families. Implementing a proof of vaccination check is far less costly than years of litigation resulting from unnecessary and preventable death and disability. Prevent needless death and disability by implementing best practices already being implemented by other organizations in Washington State, including Google, Microsoft, the University of Washington, Washington State University, the Seattle Theatre Group, and others.

The lives of Arkansas children and families are in jeopardy. We can not afford to not delay the start of our schools until these measures are in place.

We don’t have the luxury of hanging up on reality. There is so much at stake: Healthcare, poverty, racial equity, public safety, housing, social programs — the list goes on. We cannot let the Conservative party win and implement policies that sow hate and division and take away what we have worked so hard for. The party that embraces Trump and all that he stands for — xenophobia, racism, classism, white supremacy, extremism, snd so much more. Their top candidate is a Trump Republican who will unravel all that is good in our State, including the progress that we have made. 8 million Americans may become homeless if this eviction moratorium is not extended! The uptick in COVID 19 cases is rising rapidly again, due to the delta variant.

I am burdened by my health care costs. I am unable to afford basics, and I'm now facing expensive repairs to my home. As a senior, I feel forgotten by our current system. I feel like we are being punished for living because it is so difficult to live as a senior. I am a senior citizen in Rome, Georgia, living on a fixed income. Both my husband and I are on Medicare as well as a supplemental plan that we pay for monthly. Still, we have an out-of-pocket deductible we must meet before any of our insurance kicks in, which this year took three long months. Our prescriptions are a huge burden for us also. We are at the point where we are having to make either/or decisions with everyday items just to get by and afford our healthcare. I am urging congress to include expanded Medicare coverage and increase prescription access as part of the American Families Plan. Right now, Congress is debating if they should expand Medicare in the American Families Plan. Specifically, Congress must strengthen Medicare to include hearing, dental, and vision benefits, as well as an out-of-pocket cap; expand Medicare by lowering the eligibility age from 65 to as low as possible; and enable Medicare to negotiate lower prescription drug prices for everyone. These would not only benefit me, but nearly 38 million people would gain vision, dental, and hearing coverage, and more than 2 million uninsured would get access to quality, affordable health care. We have to use this chance to pass bold legislation while we have the majority. The clock is ticking! Please join me in urging Congress to do the right thing and expand Medicare coverage through reconciliation.

Today the entire mainstream media is owned by only FIVE corporations, all of which are run by people who are invested in weapons and war. The result is a media that always starts with a pro-interventionist position and is staffed by former intelligence officials and generals that protect the government narrative instead of the truth. Additionally, it is extremely rare for mainstream media outlets to have on opposing viewpoints, especially from the left, to have debates and discussions. My daughter was in the NICU for 6 months and still needed nurse care when she came home. She had 2 doctor appointments per week plus physical therapy. When I ran out of vacation/personal time my job was at risk because I didn’t qualify for FMLA. Let’s help other parents who face these dangers get the lawful protection they need. Let’s change FMLA to protect NICU parents who have children that need additional support without the fear of losing their job.

160,000 people in Massachusetts alone are uninsured. In pockets of Boston, nearly 25% of people are uninsured. Even many people that do have insurance are going bankrupt from medical costs. We have to stand up and demand that no person should go without care.
