  • Immigration officials in the Obama Administration should not deport Hector
Hector is the father of two young United States citizens and the sole provider for his family, but immigration officials in the Obama administration are planning to deport him on Friday, Nov. 29 -- the day after Thanksgiving. Please join us in telling ICE director, John Sandweg, to stop Hector's deportation. Help us keep this family together. Hector was racially profiled by immigration officials, while driving to a weekly bible study group in a neighbor's home with his family and friends. He was arrested by ICE in front of his family in the yard where the bible study takes place. This is an absolutely outrageous and unconstitutional arrest and Hector's pending deportation violates the Obama Administration's own prosecutorial discretion policies. Immigration officials have gone way too far. Their overaggressive racial profiling raids need to stop. Please join us and help keep this family together this holiday season.

  • Speaker Boehner Support Immigration Reform THIS YEAR
Now is the time for our members of congress to stop dragging their feet and support a comprehensive immigration reform that will help millions of families to come out of the shadows and fully participate in our communities. In the past month several Republicans have done what many thought impossible. As Republicans, they decided to put families over politics and signed on to the comprehensive immigration reform bill H.R. 15. This is an opportunity for Speaker Boehner to do the same. We need him to also be a leader and put families over politics. Though there is enough support in Congress to pass immigration reform, Speaker Boehner recently stated that it will not be going up for a vote until 2014. This stance may prove costly for him and his party. According to several studies, 71 Percent of Americans Favor Immigration Reform. With the focus of the political world now shifted toward the 2014 elections, new polls show that a majority of voters across the country – including in 12 key battleground states – will hold elected officials accountable at the ballot box if they do not support immigration reform. More than half of Americans – 54 percent – said they were less likely to support an elected official who opposed reform, compared with just 17 percent who were more likely to support a reform opponent. Now is the time to do the right thing and put families over politics.

  • Rep. Hanna: Please Cosponsor the New House Immigration Bill
House Democrats have broken Speaker John Boehner's deadlock and introduced an immigration bill with a pathway to citizenship for the 11 million without papers. So far, over 190 members of Congress have signed on as cosponsors! But in order to get this bill past the finish line, we're going to need more Republican support. Your district's representative in the House, Congressman Richard Hanna, is part of the group of House Republicans who are open to immigration reform. His support for this new bill could be the tipping point for our movement. If he becomes a part of the growing group of Republicans who have already cosponsored this bill, we know more of his colleagues in his party will build up the courage to follow. We know Rep. Hanna is ready to listen to you and our movement. We already have a good bill waiting in the House, and we just need to get Rep. Hanna to stand by all immigrants -- not just some. He needs to join the more than 190 House members and cosponsor this new immigration bill! We need you and other advocates in your district to pressure Rep. Hanna into supporting this bill. If we get Rep. Hanna on board, your district could make all the difference for the millions without papers across the nation. The momentum is on our side because enough votes exist in the House to pass reform today. But instead Speaker Boehner hides behind excuses, delays, and flat-out refuses to give us a vote. We've come too far to stop now. Tell Rep. Hanna to stand up for all immigrants by cosponsoring this new immigration bill in the House and passing the path to citizenship for the 11 million!

  • Rep. Heck: Please Cosponsor the New House Immigration Bill
House Democrats have broken Speaker John Boehner's deadlock and introduced an immigration bill with a pathway to citizenship for the 11 million without papers. So far, over 180 House Democrats have signed on as cosponsors! But in order to get this bill past the finish line, we're going to need Republican support. The good news is that it's there. Your district's representative in the House, Congressman Joe Heck, is part of a group of Republicans who are open to immigration reform. His support for this new bill could be the tipping point for our movement. If he becomes a part of the growing group of Republicans who have already cosponsored this bill, we know more of his colleagues in his party will build up the courage to follow. However, Rep. Heck supports legalization for the 11 million-- "as long as a bill includes strict border and visa enforcement”—but has not taken a stance on citizenship. But that's simply not enough. We already have a good bill waiting in the House, and the time for vagueness is over. Rep. Heck needs to instead stand for all aspiring Americans by joining the more than 180 House members and cosponsoring this new immigration bill! We need you and other advocates in your district to pressure Rep. Heck into supporting this bill. If we get Rep. Heck on board, your district could make all the difference for the millions without papers across the nation. The momentum is on our side because enough votes exist in the House to pass reform today. But instead Speaker Boehner hides behind excuses, delays, and flat-out refuses to give us a vote. We've come too far to stop now. Tell Rep. Heck to stand up for his district by cosponsoring this new immigration bill in the House and passing the path to citizenship for the 11 million!

  • Support Our Fast for Immigration Reform
This year, we have come the closest ever to achieving real immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship. In June, the U.S. Senate passed a comprehensive, bipartisan immigration bill (S.744). Unfortunately, the Republican leadership in the House continues to delay a vote that could complete the dream for 11 million aspiring Americans by addressing our nation’s broken immigration system. Immigration reform activists have committed to a daily fast in front of the U.S. Capitol and at locations across the country to send a clear and visible message to Congress about the moral crisis caused by our country’s broken immigration system and its impact on millions of families. The thousands of fasters are being led by Eliseo Medina of the SEIU, Dae Joong Yoon of National Korean American Service and Education Consortium, Cristian Avila of Mi Familia Vota, Lisa Sharon Harper of Sojourners, and Rev. Samuel Rodriguez of National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference. Representatives Nancy Pelosi, Luis Gutierrez, Joseph Kennedy, Senator Chuck Schumer and Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack have all visited the tent to show their support for the fasters. Author and activist Gloria Steinem and the Rev. Jesse Jackson have also visited the tent to stand in solidarity with the fasters. Over 3000 are taking part in fasts in more than 180 events across the country, with numbers growing every day. Evening vigils are held at 6 p.m. in the community tent, located on the National Mall, and all are welcome to show their solidarity with those fasting for immigration tent by visiting, sending a message to the fasters, or by signing a pledge to fast. Visit http://fast4families.org/ for more information.

  • Time for deferred action for all immigrants eligible for legalization
Given the GOP's intransigence and refusal to act on immigration reform, unless President Obama exercises his executive authority to protect and begin a legalization process, the 11 million undocumented immigrants will continue to face family separation and massive deportations that already exceed 2 million under his 5-year administration, notwithstanding that they contribute significantly to the U.S. economy, tax-base and the workforce.

  • Why are immigration officials targeting a grandmother for deportation?
Why are immigration officials in the Obama administration targeting a grandmother for deportation? Juana is a mother of four wonderful children and a grandmother of two beautiful girls. Her husband Carlos, a US citizen, calls her the "glue of their family," and his soulmate. Juana has called the US her home for nearly two decades, yet immigration officials are threatening to tear this family apart by deporting her! If the administration goes through with Juana's deportation, it would be devastating for both her family and community. Not only is Juana the primary caretaker of her children -- two of them U.S. citizens -- but since 1994 she's steadily worked to help her community by paying her taxes, working as an usher at her church, and even providing financial contributions to local missionaries. If her contributions to the fabric and economy of her community are not enough, Carlos and Juana's daughters have started having children of their own, and they look to Juana daily for her motherly advice. Deporting Juana would go against the founding morals of our nation and break this family apart! Right now, Juana would likely qualify for the pathway to citizenship in the Senate immigration bill, but it's been stalled in the House by Republican leadership. The Obama administration shouldn't punish Juana and her family for Congress' inaction. In fact, because they support the pending legislation, the Obama administration shouldn't be deporting immigrants like her at all! We can help Juana and her family by asking ICE to exercise "prosecutorial discretion" and let her return back to her home and community. Please join us in demanding that the immigration official overseeing Juana's case stop her deportation. Juana's children shouldn't be separated from their mother -- we need to help keep this family together. They're depending on us!

  • No more excuses. Republicans need to stop blocking immigration reform!
Republicans are now saying that they don't have enough time to pass immigration reform this year. They say we should wait until next year. But, passing immigration reform isn’t a matter of the calendar, it’s a matter of political will. Right now, today, the votes exist to pass immigration reform with a path to citizenship. The House has both November and December to find time to schedule it—because our families’ lives are on the line. Earlier this year House GOP leaders found time to give Rep. Steve King (R-IA) a vote on his amendment to deport DREAMers. They could certainly find time to bring a vote on citizenship forward this year. If House Republicans aren’t swayed by the human toll and moral crisis caused by our broken immigration system, we’ll speak to them in a language they do understand—the language of politics and the future of their political careers. Every day Republicans delay on immigration reform, another 1,120 people are deported. Please join us in telling Republicans to stop blocking immigration reform!
