• We're tired of double-talk and political games. Rep. Heck, support real reform now!
It’s as if Republicans haven’t learned one thing. Last year Rep. Joe Heck voted with his party to deport DREAMers. He kept saying he supported immigration reform, but that was his only vote. Last week, Heck doubled down. He voted again to gut deferred action programs for DREAMers and military families. The so-called ENFORCE Act would do away with the programs that protect immigrants from deportation and would block President Obama from using his executive authority to fill the vacuum left by Republicans' own inaction. House Republicans like Joe Heck had a real chance to build on the immigration principles they introduced just a few weeks ago. It was a step in the right direction. But instead, they claim they can't move forward on reform because they don't trust the President to enforce the law. This is the same president who has deported nearly 2 million immigrants. So instead of advancing reform for DREAMers and their loved ones, Rep. Heck and House Republicans have chosen to double-down and blame their inaction on Obama. We're tired of the double-talk. Tell Joe Heck he can’t have it both ways – either he supports immigration reform or he wants to deport DREAMers. Which one is it?

It’s as if Republicans haven’t learned one thing. Last year Rep. Jeff Denham voted with his party to deport DREAMers. He kept saying he supported immigration reform and even became the first House Republican to cosponsor H.R. 15, the House immigration bill, but that was his only vote. Last week, Denham doubled down. He voted again to gut deferred action programs for DREAMers and military families. • Representative Collins:Move comprehensive immigration reform forward!
As your constituents in Georgia's 9th District, we are concerned about the lack of progress to fix the broken immigration system at the federal level. It affects our economy, especially the agriculture and construction sectors, and is tearing our immigrant families apart. SB 744 that was passed last spring is our best hope for a solution. Please consider it seriously, remove militarizing the border, and move it to the House floor for a vote.

  • Support the Maryland Law Enforcement TRUST Act Vote FOR HB 29
Meet Daniel Bonilla Maldonado. Daniel came to the United States in 2005 in order to escape extreme economic hardship and gang persecution in Honduras. Daniel has had steady employment for the past 9 years and lives with his wife and children including a US Citizen son. In 2012, Daniel was the passenger of a car that was stopped by police for a broken tail light. Though a background search on Daniel revealed no criminal record whatsoever, Daniel was arrested, along with the driver, and suffered abusive language, poor treatment, and ethnic slurs by the police officers. Daniel was transferred to ICE custody, where he was detained for 25 days before being released. After over a year of legal battles with expense but inadequate legal representation, he was denied a stay of deportation and ordered to report to ICE bi-weekly. Daniel says that he would be afraid to call the police, even if he was the victim of the crime. “After all that’s happened, I've lost faith in the strength of justice in this country. If I can be arrested for simply riding in the passenger’s seat of a car, surely I can be arrested for being a mere victim.” The TRUST Act would stop local law enforcement from turning people, like Daniel, over to immigration and help to restore the trust between immigrant communities and the law enforcement institutions they need to rely on for protection. • Whistle blowing detainees on hunger strike deserve fairness
On March 7th, 1,200 people detained in the privately run Tacoma Detention Center started a hunger strike for better food, better treatment, better pay (they currently receive $1/day for prison labor) and fairness among other demands. The hunger strikers are blowing the whistle on how the corporation, the Geo Group, is cutting corners on conditions to increase profits. Since they started their protest, GEO Group and immigration authorities have tried to isolate the detainees, put them in "the hole" and threaten to force feed them like has been done to Guantanamo prisoners. They have said, "we are not animals. We're human beings. We did not come here to be tortured. We're doing our part to speak out." Please sign to support their effort to improve conditions and blow the whistle on corporate abuse at the detention center. See Democracy Now coverage here: http://bit.ly/nwhunger

  • Help these 3 sisters come to the US to be with their guardians.
We can't make the Honduran orphanage do what is right but the US has the opportunity to step in and rectify it. With almost 200,000 orphaned children in Honduras and less than a handful adopted per year, Honduras refuses to process the adoption so that we can bring them to the US. They simply say that they don’t need to be adopted because we are their legal guardians and that is sufficient. However, the US Embassy in Honduras will not issue an immigrant visa nor will they allow them to visit us until they are adopted. It's a catch-22 that only the Secretary of State can resolve. There is no possibility of getting the adoption finished in Honduras due to existential corruption and an uncaring bureaucracy. The US embassy under State Department rules will not issue a travel visa until the adoption is finished. Only the Secretary of State can make an exception and grant a travel visa. Once in the US, we can easily adopt them due to their status, ie, they have been legally abandoned and we are their legal guardians. When my half-brother abandoned these girls to the state orphanage IHNFA, they were 6, 9 and 10 years old and were not in school. They are now 10, 13 & 14 and have reached educational parity because of their hard work and the opportunity we gave them in Honduras, but they need a real home with us and not just with a caretaker in the most dangerous country in the world (2012 UN Report). After 4 years, we have run out of options in what we thought was going to be a temporary arrangement. This petition is to ask the Secretary of State John Kerry to approve of the legal exception he is authorized to do under US law. To instruct the US Embassy in Honduras to issue visitor visas so they these children who are legally abandoned, who have no parents and whom we are their legal guardians, may come to the US and live in our home which they deserve.

  • Help this family stay together!
When Yesenia volunteered for President Obama's campaign, she never imagined his Administration would also tear her family apart. Yesenia's husband, Jorge, was undocumented. But the couple tried everything they could to fix his situation. They filed all the right paper work. They took all of the proper steps -- or so they thought. At the last minute, during Jorge’s interview in Ciudad Juarez, immigration officials in the Obama Administration denied Jorge's appeal. The family was devastated, and Yesenia and their U.S. citizen son were forced to leave Jorge behind in Mexico. The Obama Administration has effectively made Yesenia a single mother. Now, financial hardships could cause her to lose the family's home. Yesenia has even considered dropping out of graduate school. Her medical condition has aggravated to the extent that she is unable to perform her job and has put her at risk of being hospitalized any minute. When Yesenia met President Obama at a reception in 2012, he personally thanked her for her work to keep him in the White House. But now, the Obama Administration is denying her husband a chance to return to the country he loves. It truly is tragic! Yesenia and her family need your help getting reunited. Tell immigration officials in the Obama Administration to expedite Jorge's case so he can return home to his family where he belongs!
